The New York Times Book Review says GODS OF WANT is “proof of how exhilarating the short story can be.”

I‘m 60% in and I ain‘t exhilarated.

I mean, the stories aren‘t BAD, but they lack that oh-so important cohesion between narrative and imagery. I was honestly shocked to pop on here and see that every other Litten who‘s read the collection WAS exhilarated at least some of the time.

Maybe I‘ll drift away from it. I dunno. Shrug. #gaymay

Post-thunderstorm book & beer. WHERE DO I START? was my latest Kobo VIP freebie and I have zero regrets as of 20%. It‘s got great voice and craploads of Big Gay Energy. More, please.

The beer was also great: a Hefeweizen from Little Brown Jug. The can promised something “refreshing, fluffy, fruity, and delicate.” The can didn‘t lie. #gaymay

Poor Jade‘s having a Day. Thunderstorms are scary, even when you‘ve got a table to hide under.

Me, I like thunderstorms, but I‘m afraid I don‘t much like this book as of 30%. It‘s a great choice for someone who wants one of those made for TV Christmas movies in book form, except set in the Fraser Valley in the summertime. Sometimes I can enjoy that sort of thing, but right now I want something with more teeth. #gaymay

Throwback to last night, when I read another chunk of A MARKET OF DREAMS AND DESTINY while I drank this excellent peach makgeolli. I should be able to finish it today. Galey ramps up the intensity as the end approaches, with all sorts of schemes afoot and stakes raised. I don‘t think I‘ll end up loving it, but I do like it very much. #gaymay

I‘ve mostly stopped searching for four-leaf clovers, partly because I‘m on my bike these days and partly because I lost track of my count somewhere north of 700 and I doubt I need to add to it. This one leaped out at me on Jade‘s walk the other night, though, and who was I to refuse it?

I‘ll tuck it into this library book for the next borrower to find, since I long ago ran out of favourite books in which to press my personal stash. #gaymay

I had to get a Queer Beer in before the end of Gay May! The can promises this year‘s version is fruitier and even more fabulous than previous iterations, and it delivers.

The book‘s great so far, too. It‘s set in an alternate England where Henry VIII converted to Druidism instead of founding the C of E and subsequently made a fairy bargain. Now it‘s the 19th century and magic abounds. I‘m excited to read on. #gaymay

I‘m back with Casey for one night only! He napped like a champ while I finished DIE. It hit me hard, y‘all. I cried, and I nodded, and I‘m gonna spend a good, long while thinking about how often Kieron Gillen‘s projects deal with personal image construction and how that plays out here in his collaboration with Stephanie Hans. #gaymay

It‘s Saturday afternoon cozy mystery time with Jade, who had a sad morning because another big rain squall delayed her walk. She‘s since recovered from the doldrums. Whew.

I‘m excited for the book. It‘s the fifth in the Dublin Driver series, about a chauffeur who keeps getting tangled up in murders. At the end of the last book, her girlfriend vowed to leave her if it happened again, so I‘m anxious for their relationship here. 😱 #gaymay

This book is filled with funny bits and emotional bits and sparkling chemistry between extremely charismatic people and I don‘t wanna put it down. Like, it has loooooong parts, not chapters, and when I got to a 306-screen chunk an hour and a half ago I was all, “Oh, okay, I‘ll read 100 screens or so.” Then I was like, “Oh, okay, I‘ll read half of it.” Then I read THE WHOLE THING and I want another long-ass chunk now, please. #gaymay

Yesterday I tried to read a Very Serious Book about a woman who processed past trauma, but its opening chapters signalled it was also a Very Flat Book and I was NOT in the mood for that, so BOOM. I switched to a hockey romance and now I‘m all kinds of delighted with the sparkle and the bounce and the very cute dog. #gaymay
