Thanks @DarkMina I just realized this book is from you. I‘m looking forward to reading it and will use one of my free spaces on my Bingo card and will read it this month! Thanks again!
A very good psychological thriller. I was very shocked at the ending, it was very intense and some what chilling.
Made me realise I'm very lucky to have such a fantastic relationship with my sister, she's like a best friend 👭
"All I want is to see you happy; to put all this heartache behind you and go and live your life. There's been too much pain in your family. Make it end, eh?" - Pg 376
'Here in the bright life of the cafe I can see him properly for the first time... looking at him in the white glare of the strip lights, I realise that I have no idea who he is. The man I made love to, who caused me to tremble with lust and desire, who kissed my forehead as I lay in his arms, was a shadow, a figment of my imagination. He bears no resemblance whatsoever to the man sitting opposite me now in his expensive suit.' - Pg 366
'I feel his breath on my face, inhale his cedarwood scent and it's all I can do to stop myself from grabbing hold of his arms and losing myself completely in him. But instead I allow him to kiss my cheek before breaking away and standing as before. Two people, two separate lives.' - Pg 363.
'And I want to grab her, sit her down and tell her that I do know what it's like; that my Dad was a drunk and that my childhood had been a battleground that nobody came through unscathed.' - Pg 281
'But children are different... They are more vulnerable than adults. They need protecting.' ...
'Why is that?'
'Because they're the victims, the innocent bystanders.' - Pg 85-86.
'It seems as though all of that... is another life, and this life, this town on the edge of the sea, is the only one that exists. I'm no longer a fearless journalist, I'm a scared teenager crouching once more behind the curtains, scared of the nightmares that come when I close my eyes.' - Pg 18
Ummm, no.
Took this thriller away with me as I hoped it‘d be a good holiday read. My friend had recommended it (sorry @Jeg 😗).
Is it just that my standards are too high these days? Is it that life‘s too short & I don‘t want to waste it on less than excellent books? 🤔
I have just spent a wonderful 5 days away with girlfriends and we talked about having diverse reactions to books. So many variables involved...

#LitsyAtoZ Letter E - i think im about 8 books in on my crime themed a-z and this was ok as a war reporter returns from Syria to deal with her mother's death, an alcoholic sister, and the ghost of an abusive father in herne bay- ptsd makes her doubt her own sanity as it reaches a climax. A few quibbles, an easy read but no lasting impression.
Finally managed to finish a book. Phew! I was kind of shocked this one was published main stream. It was littered with typos and the writing felt amateurish. The story was OK and a few things caught me by surprise but all in all I wasn‘t totally satisfied.
#MarchIntoOz #Scar I went with emotional scars. Kate Rafter is a respected journalist & war correspondent for the past fifteen years & an incident in Syria involving a young boy has left her with severe PSTD & emotional scars. Back home to settle her late mother's affairs, Kate sees a young boy in the garden next door. Is she suffering from hallucinations & flashbacks or is something else going on? A well-written twisty psychological thriller.
Finished reading this today. From the start I was hooked. The writing flows and I had to keep reading to find out more. This is her first book. Hope she writes some more. She certainly has talent.
What I‘m reading now. So different to last two reads. Just this morning I read nearly half way through. So far so good. About to read some more on this lazy hot Sunday. It is her first book. I found it in local op shop. Purchased it because it‘s a 2017 publication. @MrsMalaprop
I got home last night from babysitting my sick granddaughter, where I did no adult reading, to find I had book mail! ❤️
Thank you so much @BekahPat for your generosity and willingness to share! I probably won't get to reading it until after New Years, but this still made my day! 😍😍😍📚📚📚
I really enjoyed this book. It kept me reading as I wanted to find out what happened next. A few late nights getting it finished! The range of characters was interesting and there was a lot going on with each one. Despite this it was still very readable and not confusing at all. I look forward to reading more by this author.
Starting this one tonight. A war reporter with secrets and a troubled past... I'm finding it pretty intriguing so far. #currentread
Happy Thanksgiving bookish friends! I am truly thankful for this social media platform. Getting a little reading in bed done before I get up and start cooking. I hope each of you enjoy your day.
Miserable day outside so curled up with a blanket and a cup of tea reading this evening. Read a few chapters so far and it‘s definitely intriguing. 🤔
With all the Halloween Shenanigans yesterday I wasn't able to post but thank you so much @bookish_wookish for all these Halloween goodies. Such a pleasant surprise to end my night with.

This was a debut novel by Nuala Ellwood. It's a dark psychological thriller. Kate is a war journalist, back home after 15 years, because her mom has died. Sally, her younger sister, is an acholic. They both tell the story. It is compelling right from the start. It has quite a twist that will shock you. I was shocked by it. Enjoy.
Oh, this so totally made up for the mediocre mysteries I read last week. Dark, psychologically complex, with two unreliable narrators. The plot moves quickly but the secrets unfold slowly, and took me by complete surprise. I was going to put it down an hour ago and finish it in the morning, but one more chapter became the whole book 😱A must read if you like current events with a side of psychological thriller.
Up next! Time to try another mystery; here's hoping I don't figure it out in the first chapter or that the story or characters are flat.
#bookmail #GoodreadsGiveaway Yay! 😊
Compelling, suspenseful & one of the best psychological thrillers I've read in quite a while. Great pacing, skillful writing, twists & turns that kept me guessing & an unreliable female narrator that though flawed & suffering from PSTD (from her career as a war reporter covering the violence in Syria & a violent childhood), manages to be sympathetic & easy to root for. Paired w/ Syrian Muhammara (spicy red 🌶 dip) for my book tour review, link👇🏻
#24in48 #readathon Got in the 6 hours I wanted tonight & since it's close to 2AM, I'm headed to bed. 😴I'll be reviewing this book for a blog book tour next week but it's testament to how twisty & absorbing I found it that it kept me awake on Friday night after a long week.😱Also accomplished in my 6 hours: finished last chapter of Deathly Hollows for #hpchapteraday & chapter 4 of The Hobbit for #LOTRchapteraday & a few chapters of Rabbit Cake.👍
Is she going to post everything she eats today?🤔It's entirely possible!🤣Actually I didn't take a pic of my pistachio nuts snack.👍The key to a good #24in48 #readathon experience is eating well so tonight's dinner (& blog post) is Grilled Baby Lettuce & Asparagus with Feta, served with grilled opah & cherry tomatoes. Quick, delicious & done in time to blog, clean up & start reading at 6 PM (HST)--Now! I'm starting with this book. 📚👍#litsycooks
Granted I shouldn't have set them down on "his" chair but Max was not helpful with gathering my #24in48 #readathon stack. He kept nudging & rubbing on them. ?❤️? This is my starting stack-not counting Kindle & audiobooks. I won't get to all of them but I need options.???A few need to be finished up & the tagged book & Mastering the Art of Soviet Cooking are for book tour review & bookclub respectively. The Hobbit is for #LOTRchapteraday
#TBRtemptation - A war reporter with PTSD --and nightmares about a Syrian child-- returns home after her mom's death. When she sees a boy in the garden of her supposedly childless neighbor, an Iraqi refugee, she is convinced something's very wrong. But is what's wrong real, or all in her mind? #psychologicalthriller
Afternoon view. 🖤
This book got me out of a three week anxiety-induced reading slump. Part 1 was 10 stars. Better than the books it's being compared to. I finished this in two days.
Arrived home to some beaitiful@#bookpost from #penguinrandomhouse and #nualaellwood
My 5* review can be found here: https://pageturnersnook.wordpress.com/2017/01/01/my-sisters-bones/
Currently 99p for Kindle. I'm telling you ... go and grab a bargain of a page turner!!
Absolutely fantastic book. It gripped me from the very beginning until the very end. An emotional rollercoaster read that truly pulls you into a new world where you're not sure who to trust. Completely enthralling and compelling and one of the best books I have read in 2016. A must read.
