You are not welcome here, godkiller Kissen's family were killed by zealots of a fire god. Now, she makes a living killing gods, and enjoys it. That is until she finds a god she cannot kill: Skedi, a god of white lies, has somehow bound himself to a young noble, and they are both on the run from unknown assassins. Joined by a disillusioned knight on a secret quest, they must travel to the ruined city of Blenraden, where the last of the wild gods reside, to each beg a favour. Pursued by demons, and in the midst of burgeoning civil war, they will all face a reckoning - something is rotting at the heart of their world, and only they can be the ones to stop it.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. I did not know this was the start of a trilogy when I began the book, I'm glad I found that out before I got to the ending. I wouldn't put this in irritating cliffhanger territory, a lot is accomplished, explained, revealed in this first book, but you can clearly see an overarching plot that has a ways to go. 1/?

Robotswithpersonality 2/? With that in mind, I'm very glad from a pacing, character developer, world-building and plot development POV that this is one of three books, and it is under 300 pages, rather than some 900 page mammoth fantasy, it really works, all on on its own. I don't think I can say much more without getting into spoilers, I am invested in each of the character's stories, I love the lore as it is presented, I'm eager to get my hands on the next book. 2w
Robotswithpersonality 3/4 Thankfully I seem to have come to this at the best possible time, because the second book is out and it looks like from my library's 'on order' status that the third will be published soon in 2025. Here's to epic fantasy feel without the page count, the intimate scale of focusing on three people (and a god or two), even as the fate of many hangs in the balance, helps remove that overwhelming factor as well. ♥️☺️ 2w
Robotswithpersonality 4/4 Oh, and huge props for disability and queer rep, and dealing with trauma and PTSD seamlessly woven into main characters identities. 👏🏻

Just as fun the second time as it was the first. Gods (old and new, wicked and maybe not SO wicked), knights, mercenaries, pilgrims, and secrets collide and unravel in this fast-paced, entertaining fantasy. And, now that I‘ve refreshed my memory, I can read the sequel!

Going with another reread this rainy morning because I have the sequel waiting in the wings…and I‘m expecting some book mail tomorrow which will probably interrupt whatever I‘m currently reading. 😬 I really enjoyed this one the first time I read it and am excited to refresh my memory and continue the story.

OMG GO BUY THIS BOOK AND BE PREPARED TO READ IT IN ONE SITTING. *ahem*….sorry, but it‘s really really good! Well developed and characters with their own agendas, a bit reminiscent of The Witcher.

When I saw this cover, I couldn't resist reading it. Going in completely blind, I found myself quickly wrapped up in this adventurous story.

The story focuses mainly on four characters and their connection to each other as they navigate a world once ruled by many gods. Worshipping gods is now forbidden, but our four travelers desperately need help from the gods.

The characters are well-developed, and the action will keep you reading. 💚

Sietje can‘t believe the book has the audacity to touch her!

I absolutely love this cover, and the story was quite good too. A fantasy world with living gods who interact with their followers, accepting offerings and sacrifices and granting boons and blessings. Or curses. Three main characters- an orphaned girl, a soldier in disguise, and a godkiller, find themselves traveling together, each on their own quest.

I really enjoyed this new fantasy series. It felt quite original, taking place in a world where people have rebelled against Gods and because of this Godkillers are hired to deal with them. This definitely has Witcher vibes, but possible unpopular opinion - I liked it more. It was much more readable, but with strong world building. Also way better women characters. 4.5⭐️

TieDyeDude I really want to read this, but I'm trying to be good and stick to my plan for my next 5-6 books, so maybe in the summer... 9mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Godkiller” started off very slow, however the backstory was well worth the wait. The world itself was very interesting, in addition to the plot, however the highlight of this book are its characters. The character arcs for Kissen, Elo, Inara, and Skedi were very well done and I always love the found-family trope. I look forward to seeing how these characters continue to develop throughout the rest of this trilogy.

I decided to include in my monthly #BookSpinBingo list, books with fall vibes. I thought this book complied with that criteria🙄maybe only the cover☺️
I was surprised with this short YA fantasy novel. I liked the world, set in medieval time?, liked the characters and plot.
This world is “manipulated” I could say by the presence of gods. Any request, advice to the gods, has a prize, a sacrifice. But gods have limits, they can be destroyed, killed⬇️

Gissy Then, worship of gods was prohibited, punishable by law. The veiga, godkillers operate in the name of kings and Kissen is a godkiller. She lost her leg in a promise, by whom, why? Later she will know Inara who needs her help as a godkiller to find some answers for a god she has attached to her, Skedi. They will go to “Blenraden, where the last of the wild gods reside” (blurb) The another traveler will join them, Elo who apparently is a “baker”.⬇️ 12mo
Gissy (Cont.) Kissen, Inara with Skedi and Elo will travel together, each one with secrets, each one will beg for a personal favor to this god...and the adventure starts. The story is full of action, betrayals but also has hope. There is a twist not necessarily a surprised one but a good one to leave you with the sensation to continue with the story. 3.8⭐️The book has mixed reviews. I‘m in the side of “ liked the story”☺️ 12mo
Gissy That‘s the Illumicrate edition where the main characters appear. As YA fantasy, I enjoyed it.

I liked the narration and the lady Witcher vibes. For me, it started stronger than it ended - I preferred the pilgrimage to the climax. Also the romance was UGH.

This book just RAGED, full of anger and power and mystery. Very compelling characters, especially Kissen, whose mind heart hides behind a fierce exterior. Everyone in this book is not who they seem to be, and there are so many secrets and reveals that the plot just races by. A finely crafted world, with plenty to discover, and lots of questions left unanswered for the sequel — but you‘re left definitely wanting to find out. Definite pick!

Mixed feelings. Mainly because it was a comparingly long time to get through. That only some start and then the end had my undivided attention. I just didn‘t get it. Mystery felt it was trying too hard. I forgot some parts of a mystery within another. Intriguing revelation of an end might not be enough for me to continue to the second book. I like the idea of a world now without gods because they became to powerful. Yet now people want them back.

Good, but not great. The plot moved quickly, but it took me a shockingly long time to get through. I just wasn‘t feeling it. Which is disappointing because I did really enjoy the characters, all three POVs.

This was a fun one—more please!!! In a world where human desires create gods & their faith & prayers sustain them, a terrible war sees the gods defeated at great cost & a new king rise. But rebellion stirs, the old ways persist & one young girl finds herself tethered to a god. Kill the god & she dies & that‘s no good. Along with a godkiller & former knight, the girl sets out looking for answers & together they find more than they bargained for. ⬇️

TracyReadsBooks A great story with fantastic characters. Also a fascinating examination of the use and abuse of power, faith, & the lengths to which people will go to help, protect, & save those they love. First in a series, I can‘t wait to read more! 1y

In a land where gods have been outlawed, godkiller for hire Kissen, whose own family was sacrificed to a fire god, is forced to help when a young noble girl fused with the god of white lies seeks her help. Together with a loyal knight turned baker they must journey to a war and god-haunted city for answers and aid. This immersive fantasy is filled with flawed, lovable, badass characters—and the audio narrator sounds like Game of Thrones‘ Ygritte!

This was a good read, Kissen's family was killed by a God. Now she kills Gods for money. A young girl seeks her out to help separate herself from a tiny God called Skedi. They end up running away and joined by a disillusioned Knight. They are all heading to a city where a huge battle was fought, each with their own quests.

I loved characters but there were quite many POVs and it took some time to get into the book. The world felt amazing and I loved the beginning - the worldbuilding. This felt quite unique.

The thing I didn't like was pacing: the beginning was intriguing, then the biggest part of the book made me to lost interest and the ending was rushed.

The fifth & last #BookMail from yesterday now, is this GORGEOUS autumnal themed signed edition of Godkiller(I forgot to add the signature to the collage)It‘s absolutely stunning, from the dust jacket to the endpapers to the amazing sprayed edges. After fire god zealots kill her family, Kissen becomes a godkiller, travelling her world to bring gods to justice. Until she finds a god she cannot kill.
