Feel the Bern: A Bernie Sanders Mystery | Andrew Shaffer
18 posts | 16 read | 7 to read
Bernie Sanders and his Gen Z intern are drawn into a murder investigation in a small Vermont town in this hilarious spin on cozy mysteries from the New York Times bestselling author of Hope Never Dies: An Obama Biden Mystery When the Senate breaks for fall recess, Bernie Sanders returns to Vermont for a weekend of public events in Eagle Creek, a small town recently crowned Americas #1 Leaf Peeping Destination. Its up to congressional internand Eagle Creek nativeCrash Robertson to keep the senator on schedule. Unfortunately, Crash cant go back to her old hometown without running into some skeletons from her past. Some are more literal than otherssuch as the drowned banker she finds floating in Lake Champlain. What looks like an accident is soon revealed to be a heinous murder. Bernie takes an interest in the case because of the victims ties to Big Maple, the corporate agribusiness bent on monopolizing the Vermont maple syrup industry. The faster Crash helps Bernie unravel the mystery, the quicker they can return to glad-handing constituents. If they dont get back on track, itll be her political future in the obituaries next.

While I liked the Obama/Biden books better, this one, featuring Bernie Sanders and an intern named Crash, was pretty fun too. Shaffer went a little overboard and and got a little pedantic with the politics though. The narrator was excellent. #audiowalk. I finished up my nighttime book and then continued with The Maidens.

I can‘t believe this round of #CBBC is over :) I loved reading y‘alls thoughts on this one - I didn‘t realize initially how “political” it would feel. Anyway, thanks again @MommyOfTwo for the lovely package.

I thought this was going to be really cheesey, but it turned out to be pretty good. An intern, Crash, brings Bernie Sanders home for the annual Maple celebration, and they end up solving a crime, too.

Unpopular opinion, this one didn‘t work for me. It has hilarious scenes but it was too political with a real politician which didn‘t work that combination for me🤷🏽‍♀️ But most people enjoyed it. 2.5/3⭐️

What a perfect, goofy, little late spring read 💕 Fictional Bernie is fantastic, Crash has girlpower enough for 10, and the tone throughout is so fun!

⭐️⭐️
This one lacked all the charm of the Biden / Obama books. Maybe because it was told from the staffer's perspective, I don't know. But the mediocre story wasn't enough to carry this one.

KathyWheeler That‘s too bad. I loved the Obama/Biden ones, so I was looking forward to this book. 2y

This was just under a pick for me. Too much overt politics, not enough Bernie or cozy feel. The ending has me just intrigued enough to read a second as there‘s some plot line changes. #unpopularopinion

Mommamanzi I just laughed so hard…. I had no idea this book existed. 😍😂 2y

What a fun read! The cover and the title caught my eye, the description drew me in, and the story had me hooked. This was such a fun cozy mystery; funny, witty, unique small town,, kooky characters, and a mystery. The mystery was great too, with plenty of clues and red herrings before a great ending.

Feel the Bern is a sweet hilarious cozy mystery, heavy on the sweet with maple syrup everywhere and a political twist.

A fun cozy set in Vermont with Bernie Sanders as an amateur sleuth! As ridiculous as it sounds, it was so cute and I couldn‘t put it down (it took me less than 24 hours to read it)!

TheKidUpstairs LOL, is this the same author who did the Obama/Biden mysteries? 2y
Kshakal @TheKidUpstairs I believe so! 2y
Scochrane26 @TheKidUpstairs Yes, it is! @kshakal I didn‘t know he had another book out! I know Biden‘s election ruined his plans for a 3rd Obama/Biden mystery. This sounds like a lot of fun. 2y

Suet624 What a surprise! Here I am in Vermont and I‘ve not heard of this one. 2y
DogEaredBooks @Suet624 if you pick it up I would be so interested to see if they got Vermont right. Bc at the very least it 100% convinced me I need to visit VT asap 2y
DogEaredBooks @Suet624 and I would argue Vermont is very much a main character in the book 2y
Suet624 If you don‘t ski/snowboard, June to November is the best time to visit. It‘s a beautiful state any time of year though. 2y
DogEaredBooks @Suet624 it sounds like beautiful - although I‘ll stick to June to November (I know my limits and I am an indoor winter kid) 2y
