A Holiday Homicide | Ellie Alexander

Pickpick

Yup…. another event and another murder. She really could be a serial killer in plain sight in theory…. but a fun event idea, engaging primary mystery and more clues for the secondary mystery thread that runs through each of the books. Still a pick but i would definitely avoid her events…

AmyG Hello, my friend. Hope all is well. 😘 6h

The third book and third event- I‘m not sure i would risk going to these events though… they are plagued by murders…. I like the story and the mystery and the characters- but i think the murders should occur outside the events she coordinates…

A US vampire moves to a small English village. Because medication reduces his “condition“ to a mild allergy to garlic and eliminates the need to drink blood he can fit in with his new surroundings. Then the local postmistress is murdered and he is drawn into the investigation.

It had its moments, but not as good as the author's books set in the American South. Perhaps you need to be part of a culture yourself for this kind of humour to work.

Once I finish this, I‘m 99% sure I won‘t continue with the series. Tricia is a judgy bitch, and her obsession with food and gaining weight is obnoxious. Not to mention, the writing is just getting bad. Although I love Mr. Everett so much, there‘s not enough of him to make this worth it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ #booktownmysteries #lornabarrett #cozymystery #handbookforhomicide

Fortifiedbybooks I struggled with this book as well, but managed to get through it and find out the reason behind Tricia's obsession with food, weight, and being judgmental. The next book, A Deadly Deletion was better, but Clause of Death was the last straw for me. I barely got through it. It's a shame, too, because this was the series that got me into Cozy Mysteries. 2h
actualdisneyprincess @Fortifiedbybooks I‘m pretty sure her obsession with food was explained in a previous book, and I thought I remembered her acknowledging it and beginning to heal from it; the characterization here seems to ignore that completely and just reverts to her worst self. I feel your disappointment, though! This was one of my favorite series until now. 🫠 2h
Fortifiedbybooks I do remember the issue coming up previously, but I feel like this book went into more detail about it, possibly for the sake of bringing social issues into the series. That was the main reason (besides the bad writing) I finally bailed. I don't want to read about social issues in my Cozy Mysteries. I want to escape from the social issues/reality LOL To me, that's the whole point of Cozies. 2h
actualdisneyprincess @Fortifiedbybooks right???? There‘s a way to touch on them without making them feel like Very Special Episodes of 80s/90s television, or holier-than-thou, savior complexes, and unfortunately…this doesn‘t do it. 🙃 2h

I‘m on hold for the next Hamish book so I decided to dive into another cozy mystery series by M.C. Beaton, this time set in the Edwardian era. It had its funny moments & the narrator did a great job with all the voices, but it didn‘t capture my full attention. It‘s not bad, just not my favorite. 3⭐️

March‘s Thematic theme was hobby for the cozy mystery. I chose this cozy as I used to do some quilting and it looked fun.
