Aesop's Illustrated Fables
Aesop's Illustrated Fables | Aesop
17 posts | 8 read | 9 to read
Aesop's Illustrated Fables features more than 400 fables, beautifully illustrated with engravings and color plates by Arthur Rackham, Walter Crane and Ernest Griset. It includes all of the classic fables whose titles and morals have become part of our common cultural vocabulary, among them The Boy Who Cried Wolf, The Tortoise and the Hare, The City Mouse and the Country Mouse, The Dog in the Manger and The Fox and the Grapes. Part fairy tale, part fantasy story, part parable with a lesson to impart, each of these fables is a polished gem of storytelling craft whose luster never dulls. Aesop's Illustrated Fables is one of Barnes & Noble's Collectible Editions classic editions. Each volume features authoritative texts by the world's greatest authors, in an exquisitely designed bonded-leather binding with distinctive gilt edging and an attractive silk-ribbon bookmark. Decorative, durable and collectible, these books offer hours of pleasure to readers young and old and are an indispensible cornerstone for every home library.

Decided to read the oldest book listed on the “1001 books to read before you die” complete list. Though I‘ve read some of the fables or heard about them throughout the years, this is the first time I‘ll actually sit down and read a proper collection of them. And I have two to choose from, both beautifully illustrated! Anyone read them all?

GingerAntics I‘ve always wanted to do that. 6y
Faibka @GingerAntics I hope you do :) I‘m actually enjoying it more than I thought and also love the illustrations that accompany them, for their artistic value and as visual reminders of what the fable is about. It also reminds me of my childhood when I learned most of them. (edited) 6y

"printed" books for the visually impaired were introduced in Britain in 1827 (though they first appeared in France at the end of the 17C). This embossed work uses the Roman alphabet rather than the Braille system we're now familiar with and was published in 1838. It's a lovely item, I'm not sure how effective the illustrations would be though...

I just gave in and also started an Instagram account, so this is cross-posted because I'm pretty proud of the picture, lol. Husband's favorite book and color happen to be purple!

My collection of #fablesandfolklore books (and also fairy tales, but they are kinda the same thing). I have original stories, retellings and modern versions based on some classic fables or folklore. I think I might have more hiding on my shelves, since these kinds of books are some of my favourites! 👌

It's Monday. You deserve something pretty to look at so I rounded up 10 beautiful Victorian-era children's book covers for the folks at @bookriot This one is my favorite-- didn't use any filters on it and look at those colors! http://bookriot.com/2016/09/12/10-gorgeous-victorian-childrens-book-covers/
