I'm slowly making my way through my collection of Trojan War stories.
The author refers to Ulysses (Odysseus) as the "boldest pirate-king." What an interesting description. It gives a vivid idea not only of his character but of his ancient lifestyle in so few words.

"Myths may be home of the miraculous, but they are also mirrors of us."
I love this statement, as well as the idea it communicates. I think this is why myths are so timeless as well as why society (including myself) can't get enough of them in all their iterations.
I didn't expect the scholarly commentary format of this book, but I'm really enjoying it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this simplified but faithful retelling. With its beautifully poetic prose that's reminiscent of reading a classic translation, but still accessible to the young or casual reader.

I picked up this book knowing nothing about enneagram but curious about the idea of personalized self care. It has opened a whole new world of thought, especially since the sections I felt I most strongly reacted to, both emotionally and intellectually, were not in the chapter directed to my type. Reading the book prompted me to take the test and the results were unexpected.

In this context I know she's talking about worthiness as in worth or value, but it struck me as an interesting statement because I'm so accustomed to thinking of worthiness as a construct resultant from meeting some basic qualifications. Value is always measured on some sort of scale. What is the scale to measure the value or worth of a person? What is the etymological relationship between worth and worthy if they both come from the same root?

So excited for this new edition to my #mythologylibrary now I have the set.

One of my absolute favorites!
Napoli tells a beautiful and brilliant tale of a young siren who leaves her sisters and befriends Philoctetes, the wounded greek warrior abandoned by Odysseus on the isle of Lemnos. This story fills in the blanks between Homer's Iliad and the Greek playwrights who told of Philoctetes return to the Trojan War and his pivotal role in the Greek victory.
