My #bookspin book, which also amused me to use for the “high/low“ #ISpyBingo space. (And red lipstick!)

Not really my cuppa; I'm not a fan of accident/humiliation humor. Kept reading mainly for the pov of a non-binary character. Overall I liked it pretty well, but I think the author isn't great at third-act break-ups--they always seem to be based on mental breakdowns.

Currently in UT! Finished Delilah Green Doesn‘t Care and This Is How You Lose the Time War, and started Love and Other Disasters yesterday. Headed to Zion today so I don‘t see much reading in the forecast.

I finished this last week but was processing my emotions about it before I could write a review. Overall I loved all the characters and the commentary on queer perception and acceptance in society generally and within a closer circle. I really empathized with Dahlia, who recently left her marriage and is struggling to figure out who she wants to be on her own while also falling for her fellow contestant London.

Finally able to sneak in some time with my last summer book now that school is calming down a bit. I really liked this one- it was fun and steamy and I will be on the lookout for more Anita Kelly! The drama didn‘t feel manufactured like it can in some romances. It felt like a little bit of resolution was missing in one of the conflicts (spoilers below), but overall I thought the ending was good, and the cast of characters was very lovable.

Mindelan I felt the plot with Lizzie was just a little underdone- we never got a full picture of what her deal was. I know in life sometimes people are just dicks, but I guess I was looking for either a little more development or a resolution because it was a romance novel. It just felt a little uneven. Still liked it though! 2y

Insta-love and chemistry felt very forced, dynamics between the leads was schematic, the writing of this book was clunky and awkward.
The story was not compelling enough.

A sweet queer romance between a recent divorcee and the first openly nonbinary contestant on a home cooking show. After initially getting off on the wrong foot, the two soon find that their chemistry on and off the show is undeniable. Is a relation with the competition really a good idea? Or, maybe, is a chance at love worth more than a reality TV show?

📺 👩‍🍳 😳 🧑‍🦰 💗 (I‘m only a few chapters in so this is a bit generic!)
I‘d love a sequel to Night Film - it‘s one of my very favorite books and I‘d totally go back into that weird world.
My last completed read was Things We Do In The Dark and it was ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ - so twisty and such a solid ending!
Thanks for the tag @Eggs @Avanders - better late than never right?! 😅

Eggs Thanks for playing 💕📚🤗 3y

⭐️⭐️⭐️: Nocturnal
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️: Iron Widow and Thirsty Mermaids
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and Love & Other Disasters

I read them all in physical book form except Iron Widow, which I listened to on 2.5 speed as is my way. 🎧

Pretty solid May of reading, let's see what June brings! ☀️

This was, by far, one of the best romances I've read and I think Reality Show Romance might be a new favorite trope.

When Dahlia (a divorced aspiring writer) and London (a non-binary sound engineer) meet as contestants on a reality cooking show things get a little spicy.

It was adorable and funny, with believable characters, just enough spice, and a strong subplot about pronouns and proper gendering.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Christy2318 Bumping up my TBR. I like the reality show romance trope. 3y
GondorGirl @Christy2318 I loved The Charm Offensive! I'll add the other two to my list! 🧡 I also enjoyed 3y

This was such a fun read! I'm not really into cooking shows but I really like the idea of getting behind the scenes and off camera, esp with these two lovelies. I did think that Dahlia was a bit annoying at the start (not in gen, just a few things) but I really enjoyed how well rounded they all were. The background characters didn't get this care, which made later chapters a bit weak #queer #sapphic #nonbinary #anxiety

Adored it. Competing on a cooking show means you get all the forced proximity, but less messy than a workplace romance. Made me so hungry while reading, but enjoyed this story of two folks finding love in the middle of this break from their lives.

London & Dahlia are both competing in a cooking show, but their growing connection quickly becomes as important as winning, especially when either of them could go home anyday. really loved the inclusion & authenticity of London as a non-binary character. I liked that there wasnt too much turmoil, that they got to focus on themselves and their growing relationship. thoroughly enjoyed. I‘ll even allow the 3rd act break up bc of how they made up

London and Dahlia are both competing on Chef's Special, a popular amateur cooking competition. But the attraction between them is quickly becoming just as important as winning the competition, especially when their relationship could end at any moment when one of them leaves the competition. It's a fun read, and I loved that a big part of London's decision to compete was to to show some nonbinary rep on TV.

I had a difficult month personally but I immersed myself in books and the silver lining is 26 books read/listened to and a blackout for #BookspinBingo ! Not bad for the shortest month of the year! Challenges helped, thank you @TheAromaofBooks #Roll100 @PuddleJumper #authoramonth @Soubhiville #20in4 @Andrew65 and @Ireadkidlit for the gorgeous elephant card I received today!

Complicated feelings re: this f/nb romance. The main characters were underdeveloped and a bit generic, which made it hard to be invested in the romance. There also weren't enough relationship obstacles for my taste, although there is potential in their being rival contestants on a reality cooking show and their class differences. Neither issue is followed through on! I did love the nonbinary representation and the unique sex scenes.

Book of the Month picks are live! 🎉🎉🎉 What is everyone getting this month?

I wasn't SUPER hyped about the choices this month, but I'm interested enough in these three to give them a shot! ❤📖 I'll probably save the tagged book to read in February since it's a romance! #botm

BookBosomed1 I‘m intrigued by Love & Disasters. Not everyday that a non-binary character is featured in a romance 📖. 3y
