This is probably my most reread book of the past few years. This time I‘m facilitating a book club discussion on it. I am really looking forward to discussing it and seeing everyone‘s takeaways.

I love how Yang approached each novella in this series with a different style and format, and how each was told from a different character's perspective. The theme of resistance was powerful and timely. Yang incorporated themes of gender, class, and sexuality, as well. Overall, these were intriguing reads. I'd love to read more by Neon Yang.

Hey all! I can‘t believe it‘s already time for discussion again. Like always, I‘ll tag everyone in the first post. 3 questions total this time. #WithTheBanned
Back to my rereads of this series! I'd sort-of-mostly remembered how this worked out, except for one thing. It's still very fun, and perhaps even more so now I've read more martial arts stories and know some of the xianxia/wuxia/etc type tropes, re: the character Wei Jintai. I wish there'd been a little more about her and Sang.
Nice book but only 3.5 stars. I like the idea, but it seemed that the child felt too much pressure to “choose” their pronouns & words for the day. A better way the adults could have dealt with it is explained that the child was still valid even if they couldn‘t find their “words” for the day. Still, a good book for introducing children to the concept of pronouns. ⬇️

This was a really lovely middlegrade read. Ellen is on a class trip to Barcelona. She's Jewish, she's autistic, & she has a great dad. But she feels like her best friend is pulling away from her. When they get put on different teams for a group project, she has to learn how to make new friends & set boundaries in her relationships. There's also a new classmate who uses they pronouns, who makes Ellen think outside the binary categories shes used to

Life is hard sometimes. Here are some of my comfort reads in which the main characters go through some healing ❤️🩹
I learned a lot from this one about non-binary gender identity and asexuality. Kobabe does an excellent job of conveying the confusion and isolation e felt as e was coming of age. The art is beautiful.
