@julieclair the book came today! @Deblovestoread @BookBosomed1 heading to the post office tomorrow! Sorry for the delay! #lmpbc #groupw
Heads up- once you have finished the book, be sure to read the Author‘s Note at the end. It “made” the book for me! This book had more depth than I was expecting. We watch the main character, 50-year-old Sonny, struggle to come to terms with a tragedy from her childhood that has haunted her all her life. It is ultimately a hopeful story, and Sonny is fortunate to have a wonderful mom and friends who help her on her journey. ⬇️
I‘m so glad I followed through and finished the holiday books I started. This one was particularly timely as it‘s set where I normally go for my birthday, but was unable to this year. It was good to at least be there in fiction 😊. This is over-the-top Michigan fiction, but it was refreshing to read a holiday story that wasn‘t strictly romance. I look forward to more of Shipman‘s books next holiday season. #mittenlitten
I couldn‘t be reading a more relevant book right now as the snow is falling in Michigan and we wait to see how bad it actually gets…. Looking forward to being snowed in the next couple of days ❄️❄️❄️
I read this one as part of the #holidayromancebingo for another holiday than Christmas. New Years. This book was a fun read and what you would expect. However, the mental illness displayed in the books was too easily cleaned up but it was a nice story of a 50 yo women returning home to deal with her demons. 3.5 ⭐️s
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ This book was my #lmbc pick, Rd 16, Group W. It is is about facing our pains and finding peace in who we are alongside that pain. If you enjoy romance and cozy lit fic, you‘ll likely enjoy this one. It has a cozy setting, a budding romance, humor, and some very cheesetastic lines. “When will society learn it‘s not our looks that make women such powerful creatures, it‘s our minds, hearts, and soul” (p. 133). On the first snow day in Wisconsin, reading for the #lmpbc Rd. 16. @julieclair @Jerdencon @Deblovestoread
I thought this was going to be a light fluffy romance when I picked it up but is much more substantial. Sonny loses her job as a meteorologist in California and comes home to Michigan. While there is romance, suicide and hospice care are woven into the story. I enjoyed the book. Be sure to read the author's note to bring more meaning to the story. #WeekendReading #FabulousFebruary #Booked2022 #WeatherTermInTitle
I liked the relationships between Sonny & her mom and Sonny & her younger colleague, Icicle. The romantic relationship with Mason seemed like an afterthought & I wasn‘t sold on the dynamic between Sonny & her boss. There was also a fictional reference to something that is real early in the book which took me out of the story. ❄️❄️❄️
4⭐️ I thought it to be a pretty decent read. I quite liked that the author used a middle age individual as the main protagonist rather than some young thing. And that it took place over several months rather than several weeks. #2021 #romance #bookreview #bookstagram #christmas #fiction #ebook #averymerryreadathon #mistletoemaniacs #wintergames2021 +36pts
I liked this story of an older woman getting a second chance at life and love. I didn‘t like Shipman‘s tendency to tell not show. One of the characters, for example, makes a change in his life, and we are told several times how this change empowers him. It would have been more effective if we‘d seen the changes in his behavior instead. I did like the characters enough to give this a pick. Saw a blue heron on my walk. #audiowalk
The Secret of Snow is my new walking book. There should actually be 3 walks, but for some reason MapMyFitness did not create a map for it. When I got home, I found my daughter had decorated the outside of the house. #audiowalk
Sonny, 50 years old, made a lot of decisions she now regrets. After being fired from her job as Chief Meteorologist in Palm Springs CA, she now returns to her small hometown in Michigan. From sunshine every day to long, cold, snowy Michigan winters. There‘s a lot about Sonny that I can relate to. Because of this I could understand her running and closing herself off.
From wonderfully warm-all-the-time Southern California back to frigid, snowy Michigan.
Viola Shipman always knows how to cheer you up and keep you on the side of positive.
Another enjoyable book fans won‘t want to miss.

Viola Shipman (AKA Wade Rouse) is the real deal! His 1st Christmas novel tells the story of Michigan native turned SoCal gal, Sonny Dunes-a meteorologist golden girl living an golden sunny life. Clouds roll in and gloom takes over when the 50ish Sunny is replaced by a robotic meteorologist. Sonny has an epic meltdown and ends up returning to Michigan, to her roots, to her mother's home to heal. Part of that healing process will(cont)...

One of my favorite local Indie bookstores was advertising the release of this one today. It is a new to me author but I'm still super excited that 1. It takes place in Traverse City and 2. It's signed by the author. I am planning on saving this one until we start seeing actual 🌨❄☃️
