The Bookish Life of Nina Hill meets Younger in a heartfelt debut following a young woman who discovers she'll have to ditch the "dream job" and write her own story to find her happy ending. Meet Nora Hughesthe overworked, underpaid, last bookish assistant standing. At least for now. When Nora landed an editorial assistant position at Parsons Press, it was her first step towards The Dream Job. Because, honestly, is there anything dreamier than making books for a living? But after five years of lunch orders, finicky authors, and per my last emails, Nora has come to one grand conclusion: Dream Jobs do not exist. With her life spiraling and the Parsons staff sinking, Nora gets hit with even worse news. Parson's is cutting her already unlivable salary. Unable to afford her rent and without even the novels she once loved as a comfort, Nora decides to moonlight for a rival publisher to make ends meet...and maybe poach some Parson's authors along the way. But when Andrew Santos, a bestselling Parsons author no one can afford to lose is thrown into the mix, Nora has to decide where her loyalties lie. Her new Dream Job, ever-optimistic Andrew, or...herself and her future. Your next book club read touching on mental health, happiness, and the peaks and perils of being a young woman just trying to figure it all out. Nora Hughes is the perfect heroine for anyone looking to get past their own chapter twenty-something and build their storybook life.

"Contrite astronomers with strong erections and a poor understanding of female anatomy might well be what the literary market was missing."

Somehow...I think not...

I feel like I have read that book...

I read this book on my new tablet that my uncle got me as a thank you gift for taking care of my grandmother. He replaced my kindle that quick working a while back. I actually enjoyed this book a lot. I felt like I could identify with the main character. I rated this book a 4 out of 5 stars!!!

It was disappointing. All the elements for an enjoyable read were there…but it just wasn‘t.

Pros: About books, leaving dead end jobs, making a change, finding yourself and your passion, learning to champion yourself.

Cons: Slow, hard to like or care about anyone, flat characters, predictable situations, and sort of dull.

I will try the author again. Think this was a debut, and some people are slow starters. Hopefully her next book is better.

mcipher I felt the same way about this one! 2y

I‘m looking forward to reading this! I received this from @Aims42 as part of the #recipeswap exchange. Funny story - it‘s the May selection for a reading challenge I‘m participating in! I can‘t wait to try the soup recipes since the PNW spring has been wet & cold. @BennettBookworm

LeahBergen Nice! And I love soup recipes. 😊 3y
Aims42 Yay, perfect timing for you to receive this book, it was meant to be 😁 I hope you enjoy the soup recipes, they‘re so nice to just throw everything in and a few hours later *BOOM* dinner! 3y

Posting my #BFC2022 goals for the first time in forever because I really want to be accountable this month!! April was tough because I had terrible sciatica and spent a lot of time just managing that. Though I did ok with veggies near month end.
Book goal: finish at least 5 from my big library stack
Health goals: PT every other day, yoga 5x week, walks 3x week… but really just keep MOVING. And keep eating my veggies 😅

wanderinglynn Great goals. You got this! 🙌🏻 3y

Despite the cover, this isn‘t exactly the light-hearted rom-com that I expected. Nora has worked in publishing for five years- but what was once her dream job has turned into a nightmare. Layoffs and budget cuts have resulted in way too much work for less money. Nora takes a risk by taking on a second job- and a relationship with an author becomes more than business. Nora‘s struggles with her career & emotional well-being will resonate with many!

Not exactly the book I thought it would be but it was overall a good book. I thought it would include more romance but it really was mostly about Nora and her life.

thought this would be more of a romance than it was, her struggling with her career and what to do with her life hit a little too close to home currently. wanted more of the love story.

I snagged this from #hoopla when it compared it to Younger and assumed it was a romance. While it has some romance, it's much more about the central character of Nora, who is unhappily employed in her fifth year as an editorial assistant at a less than prestigious publisher. When she gets a pay cut, she has to figure out what comes next.

I started this at lunch today, and I‘m already almost finished. What a charming read! (With moments of serious relatability that keep it from wandering over the line into saccharine-land.) #mustlovebooks #shaunarobinson

Picked up this book on a whim in an airport bookstore and read it while traveling. It was a fun book to start and had a lot of depth as it progressed. I liked the ending being more open-ended than wrapped in a bow. 4⭐️

I am loving this book. Nora is an interesting and complex character that, even when I don't like her decisions, it's easy to care about. With a lot of sarcasm, heart, and soul searching I find this book really drawing me in.
To be published January 18th, I am definitely buying a copy

The holidays season is here, for some of us is a hard time especially when a piece of our heart is not in this world anymore. I wanted you to know you are not alone, we're in this together. Please stay strong, get a book and find somewhere to hide -I usually do that any time of the year- and have some peace of mind to ease the heartaches. Hug your family & friends, send them your love if you are not able to be together 💚 #LitsyFamily #BookReview
