This is the first book in a cozy mystery series featuring Shannon Hammer, owner of a home remodeling company in the small coastal California town of Lighthouse Cove. People keep turning up dead, and Shannon is at the center of it all. An easy read and really enjoyable. A little side maybe-romance happening, a fun cast of characters. I‘m looking forward to more in the series, and I‘ve been told this one is a Hallmark movie. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 ❤️📚

This was a Christmas gift from my youngest son (almost 17). He went online, plugged in some keywords he thought would interest me (including books that have been made into Hallmark movies) and picked this book. It‘s a series, so he made sure it was the first one. He was so excited to tell me about how he chose it and that I can watch the movie when I‘m done reading it, and that touched me so very much. 🥰 ❤️📚

Aims42 Awww, I love the story too 🥹 12mo
RebelReader That is so sweet! He put a lot of thought into it. 12mo

Finished it already! A little disappointed with the motivation of the culprit and that Shannon didn‘t do any figuring out for herself, but there were reasons for than. I have number two lined up ready to you already!

In cozy mode, thanks to swap prep, so vegging with this one, which I think I received last year! I enjoy the Hallmark movies of this series, so impossible not to picture Jewel as the lead character, instead of how the author describes her.

TheBookDream I love how “home renovation” and “haunted home renovation” are subcategories of cozy mysteries lol (edited) 4y

Time to start strategizing series I need to catch up on.
1. Kate Carlisle's Fixer-Upper series
2. Spencer Quinn's Chet and Bernie series
3. Leslie Meier's Lucy Stone series
4. Elly Griffiths' Ruth Galloway series
5. Craig Johnson's Walt Longmire series

Thanks @Clwojick ! #bookishquestions
1. Literary fiction
2. Nonfiction, *good* cozy mysteries (Recs?)
3. Is bad writing a genre? James Patterson; diet books, shady self-help books (Rachel Hollis). Used to be wary of romance and cozies but no more!
4. Women's fiction!
5. Fixer Upper cozy mysteries, romance (Seven Minutes in Heaven), Suzanne's Diary to Nicholas
6. The Dinner Party and Other Stories-Joshua Ferris
7. @Schlinkles @TsundokuAleax @zezeki

Clwojick Hahahha! I love #3! 6y
Millesent 1. Favorite genre cozy mysteries
2. The one to read more often, cozy mysteries!
3. Least favorite genre horror, Sci-fi, psychological, paranormal
4. Want to adapt into TV, let‘s go with cozy mysteries again for $100 please Alex :-)
5. Sadly I don‘t venture out of my favorite genres too often, life is too short to read a bad book!
6. Just tried to read the clincher, a cozy mystery with a western setting
7. New to Litsy, no one tag
5y
bookandcat @Millesent welcome to Litsy! What cozy mysteries would you recommend I try? I am newer to the genre, I've enjoyed Fixer Upper mysteries, Rhys Bowen, Agatha Raisin, Hannah Swensen, and now am attempting 5y

‼️ A first-in-series ebook cozy mystery is on sale today! This is a great start to the , about a female contractor in California who owns her own contracting company, uses pink construction tools, and gets unceremoniously tossed into a murder investigation 😲 features a hunky detective, a dreamy writer, and a delightful setting description of Northern California coastal living ☀️ #ilovecozies #thisprotagonistisawesome

Amie I was just looking at this deal... It's tempting... 7y
queerbookreader @amie Did you get it?? The suspense is killing me! Sorry my response is late I'm in mountain country so data connection is very spotty haha 7y
Amie I ended up not getting it because I'm trying really hard to not buy so many of these deals when I have so many books that I need to read. But it looks good! If I read it, I'll have to get it from the library 😁 7y
queerbookreader @amie Defintely!! I totally understand! It'll most likely be at the library, I recommend trying out cozies from libraries first before buying them. Some of them can be pretty hit and miss depending on the person 7y

This was a super fast read Monday and Tuesday. I'm currently reading The Little Paris Bookshop in hardback, but didn't want to ruin the copy by the pool. This little number was a perfect size and story for a mini vacation. Charming mystery with awesome vintage Victorian visuals. Perfect light read for the beach, pool or car!! Thank you @BookishBelle for both books in my #summersantagoespostal box. I'm loving/loved both so far.

BookishBelle Yay! I'm so glad you're enjoying the books! 😊 7y
ferskner I swear, there is no cozy mystery that I don't want to read. 7y

Mehso-so

So this wasn't one of the books they've made into a Hallmark movie, but I think it might be the next one they're filming. I thought the book was fine. A few too many characters, and Shannon seems a little too immature and still hung up on high school drama. I actually enjoyed the two movies infinitely more than the book. Not sure if I'll pick up another one.

afbaugh I think the books do get better as the series progresses, and I have enjoyed them. But it just may not be your cup of tea. Crowned and Mouldering is my favorite of the series. 8y

DID YOU KNOW HALLMARK TURNED THIS SERIES INTO MURDER MYSTERY MOVIES?????????????? And it has Jewel which is not that exciting bcz the main character is supposed to be a red head and not jewel and the romantic character is not as hot and dreamy as he should be. I digress. The book is always better than the movie. But this is still exciting. My live action thoughts in the comments. #ilovecozies

queerbookreader I do not like this adaptation?? Jewel turned the leading lady into a pansy and the police chief is a total twat?? And neither the police chief nor the best selling writer are hot??????????? Which is my biggest issue????? 8y
MaryAnn1 I love when I find a book I've read has become a movie. A Man Called Ove was a beautiful adaptation. Clan of the Cave Bear with Daryl Hannah, NOT!! 8y
queerbookreader Okay I'm sure jewel is a nice person and I hope she's enjoyed doing these movies but I've officially decided that she needs to maybe just stick to music 8y
See All 6 Comments
queerbookreader Oh my GOD Jewel's character is SINGING, OF COURSE she has to sing she's jewel. Okay I take back my previous comment maybe she should stick to neither acting.......nor singing 8y
queerbookreader Okay the bestselling romantic interest author is growing on me but more because he's super 🕵 and not super 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Jewel is still destroying this character I'm sorry that I don't like her but wow why did she get casted 8y
jfalkens I usually don't like book to movies, I hate when they change things and cut/add scenes. 8y

OKAY I FINISHED IT and I loooooved this book omg. Great start to the series and it was well written and has good characters and is about a woman who runs her own contracting company and actually doesn't have to deal with sexist bullshit day in and day out which you don't see often and I love it. I want to go learn how to put up drywall now ttyl #ilovecozies

Real talk, has anyone ever come across queer cozy mysteries? I would figuratively kill to have a queer lady protagonist. Truly, I would. I will fully fund a writer who wants to author a queer cozy mystery series. (particularly a series that has to do with food. But I won't complain. Literally any cozy mystery series with a queer woman as protag plzzzzzzz.) #ilovecozies #butmaybemakethemqueerplz

youngreadrshelf Ellen Hart's Jane Lawless series I think falls in that category. 8y
Broke_Girl_Reads Would also figuratively kill for a follow thread feature on Litsy so I can spy on all the recs you get for this 👀 8y
Bibliogeekery I feel like @CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian might have some suggestions for you on this one! 8y

queerbookreader @youngreadrshelf Wow thank you so much this is a great start 8y
queerbookreader @Broke_Girl_Reads I'll tag you if I get more recs, I gotchu. Did you add this rec from @youngreadrshelf 8y
ReadingEnvy Wellll not cozy but I adore the Poppy Z Brite novels like 8y
moranadatter If I were going to compile a list, I'd start with the Lambda and Bisexual Book Award Winners / nominees in the mystery category and look for cozies. 8y
youngreadrshelf @lemonlime799 there is also a pi in NYC who lives with her partner. It might fall in this category. I just need to think about it a bit. You see, I love mysteries. 8y
youngreadrshelf Ok, thought of 2 more: Kate Martinelli series. Not really cozy because she's a detective in San Francisco. And Lauren Laurano series. She's a PI in NYC. Not sure how cozy this one is because it's been a number of years. 8y
youngreadrshelf A funny one is Nancy Clue by Mabel Maney. She pokes fun at Nancy Drew. 8y
Lindy How about a gay cozy mystery series with food and travel? 8y
queerbookreader @youngreadrshelf @kmdartist @ReadingEnvy Thank you all so much!! I'll check out that lambda list too @Broke_Girl_Reads here's more recs 8y
Lindy I agree with @youngreadrshelf - Jane Lawless even runs a restaurant. 8y
moranadatter Ooh... This looks good. She's a bookstore owner. Only two books in the series though. 8y
moranadatter And I forgot about Sisters in Crime. They have a list of LGBTQ mystery writers. It's just a list of writers, but it's another place to start. http://www.sistersincrime.org/page/FrankiesList 8y
ReadingEnvy Wow so many great suggestions!!! 8y
CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @Bibliogeekery I'm afraid mysteries are a pretty new genre for me. I'd start by looking at lambda mystery winners too! 8y
Broke_Girl_Reads Wow! Thanks for keeping me in the thread @lemonlime799 ! I can't wait to find all these books. #everyoneisgay2K17 8y
