On Monday I lost my Covidginity so I've been comfort reading all my favorite bits from the entire Kate Daniels series. Then I realized I never actually read this one it's just been sitting on my kobo. I really enjoyed it and I think I liked it even more because I read the Wilmington sequels first despite this being published ahead of them.
This is Julie's story. I didn't realize that it was further in the series. But that's ok. It was good. She is just as bass ass as her mother.#Scarathlon22 @StayCurious #Witchathon2022 @mdm139 #Spookathon2022 @TheSpineView #TeamMonsterMash This book had 625 words for word search.
I‘ve been in a terrible reading slump so I‘ve been listening to some old faves. I finished a reread of the Kate Daniels series and then faced this book. I put off reading this book for a long time because I wanted to wait until a book 2 was at least announced. But I finally caved. And it was amazing. All the best I expect from Ilona Andrews.
And now I need a book 2. Like right now. 😫
Awesome world building, meh characters, and a lot of plot and continuity issues.
Julie is working to prevent a future in which Kate dies, and must return to Atlanta to prevent a monstrous almost God from obtaining a powerful object- without Kate learning she‘s returned. Lots of return characters, some really strange character development, and a total disregard of some earlier stories. 2/5 stars, I wouldn‘t read this again.
Some better known authors, are ditching, their Big 5 publishers and striking out on their own. Or they chose to start new series that may not sell to a big five. That is the case for this years winner of the Indie/Small Press winner. The name is big and has a long publishing history. She is helping show what independent authors and publishing houses can do.

Rating: ⭐️
DNF.
The premise seems amazing. I haven‘t read the other books to other series, so maybe that‘s why I struggled with this book. I found it hard to follow and knowing what is happen. I couldn‘t connect with the characters and just couldn‘t get into it.

Aurelia has changed in many ways since she was Julie. Getting to know her over the course of the story was interesting. Scratch that, it was hilarious, intense, and a little sad. I loved the situations that she got herself into and seeing familiar characters interacting with her while not knowing it was her was pretty funny. She has also become amazing with the magic she can control and the fighting skills that she has developed. Wonderful story!
March 2021 - urban fantasy - so much squeeee - impossible not to love this series more - my heart is full
I always enjoy Ilona Andrews books. This was a return to the Kate Daniels world several years later, through the eyes of Julie Lennart, and is more than just fan service. I thought it a really good story, with some intriguing plot lines that I hope will be further developed in future books. I will admit it was also a bit of a strange reading experience for me because I had started reading the original first draft of the story on the Andrews' 👇
After a busy weekend, I finally got to finish this book today during/after our rolling blackout (2 hours became 4 and it got fucking cold). I love Julie‘s voice now; she‘s so much like Kate but not exactly. It‘s killing me already to wait for the rest. Must have patience and faith. IA said they‘re concentrating on nontraditional pubs this year, so fingers crossed for more Hugh and Julie!

I‘ve been wondering when IA were going to do something with the “Knight Ryder” material - it was too good to be accidental.
My stack for #FabulousFebruary or in this case, #FrozenFebruary! I have a small start on the tagged. The rest should get me...four more bingos for #bookspinbingo. But first, lesson planning for next week, to see if kiddo can have a holiday on Monday.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- I loved this. It felt a lot like the Magic Bites Series but with Julie as our main character. Several of our favorite characters make reappearance. I‘m excited to see where the story goes but I want it now!!
More treats from the Strand. Did I mention I got gift cards to the Strand this holiday season?!
A+++++
So happy to be back in this world. It is 8 years after the events of the last Kate Daniels book and Julie, under the guise of Aurelia Ryder, returns to Atlanta to deal with a prophecy involving those she loves best. As always, outstanding worldbuilding and characters. I definitely recommend reading the Kate Daniels series before this book. It does not stand alone.
I had planned on starting this book during my break at work, but ended up accidentally leaving it home right where I took this picture. Woops. Guess I'll start it tonight.
I received 2 #bookmail today. I was afraid Blood Heir was going to be lost in the USPS system as it seemed to disappear after it was shipped, but it finally showed up today.
I was worried about how this book would be, but I shouldn't have been. It reminded me why I liked the Kate Daniels series so much. The snark, as always, was on point. I laughed my ass off and enjoyed the trip back to this world. I'm really hoping for another book to follow.
