Trout Fishing in America
Trout Fishing in America | Richard Brautigan
Richard Brautigan was a literary idol of the 1960s and 1970s whose comic genius and iconoclastic vision of American life caught the imagination of young people everywhere. He came of age during the Haight-Ashbury period and has been called the last of the Beats. His early books became required reading for the hip generation, and on its publication Trout Fishing in America became an international bestseller. An indescribable romp, the novel is best summed up in one word: mayonnaise. This new edition includes an introduction by the poet Billy Collins, who first encountered Brautigans work as a student in California.

Are the hippies going to nursing homes? #bookgasm

2BR02B Nice! A Confederate General from Big Sur was great. 7y
dsfisher Wow, flashback for this hippie who hasn‘t made it to nursing home status. Loved those books! 7y
peacegypsy Awesome! 7y
Leftcoastzen @dsfisher I am maybe over thinking it but I found them all at one thrift store in a retirement community, can‘t help but think about who had them all those years. We know our book collections tell our stories.🤓✌️ 7y

Pickpick

A surrealist novella presented in short vignettes, mainly about the struggle of life in rural America, but also about the simple beauty of a bucolic pastoral life, TFIA is written like no other novel. Well worth an afternoon's read for something different #americana #toughguybookclub

Mehso-so

Super fuckin weird book that only could've been written in San Francisco in the 1960s.

Shortstack I'm kind of obsessed with it! 😬 8y
LeahBergen My brother gave me this book (and In Watermelon Sugar) when we were teenagers. He was older than me and I tried terribly hard to "get" it like he did. In retrospect, I realize that I probably just needed to be really high like he was at the time. ? 8y
