This was such a fun book based around the daughters of some of the mad scientists in famous literature. Along with Holmes and Watson they solve murders and mysteries. I had a great time reading this and will be reading the next in the series

I really liked the idea behind this book. It was a great way to combine characters from other literary works. I loved the feminism and how the girls took their fate into their own hands.
The plot was nothing too special. Amusing, yet not really suprising. The writingstyle didn't do it for me. It felt very childish, which didn't agree with the characters. For this reason I probably won't read the sequels, although I would be interested in the plot.

Just finished this audiobook on a long drive today. What an absolutely delightful and unique story! Familiar characters from several classic literary sources are pulled together to solve a mystery, and end up turning up another mystery in the process. I'm seeking out the sequel, for sure!

I thoroughly enjoyed this interesting take inspired by some of the classic sci-fi tales we‘ve all have read or have heard of extensively. The daughters of some famous “mad scientists” come together to solve a mystery, and through their shared experiences (and their unique differences) they become sisters. Normally, I wouldn‘t like the “interruptions” in narration, the breaking of the 4th wall as it were, but I found them charming and amusing.

This was a fun book, bringing together characters from classic literatures. The main women are daughters of Jekyll and Hyde, Rappaccini, Moreau and Frankenstein. Throw in some Renfield, some Sherlock Holmes, and you have a fun adventure. Just…it was too long. It should have wrapped up about 60 pages before it did. But until then, loved it!

Clever & entertaining YA novel that riffs off of Frankenstein, The Island of Dr. Moreau, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Nathanial Hawthorne‘s Rappaccini‘s Daughter (which I had never heard of). Has Sherlock Holmes thrown in for good measure. https://cannonballread.com/2022/02/the-strange-case-of-the-alchemists-daughter-t...

This was a fun and cute story with a lot of familiar characters. I absolutely LOVED Diana. The thing that really brought this down was the extra 100 pages of fluff after the climax. It was easily way too long. I‘d be interested in reading another book in this series but that part has me leery. I don‘t like when books take too long to wrap up. Lol

Oí, I have been almost completely absent from Litsy all December. I can‘t even blame my depression this time because I‘ve been feeling okay. I just haven‘t been reading at all this month. I‘ve read 2 books the entire month and spent most of my time playing video games lol

I started this #LMPBC book a couple days ago, and I will make sure I get it finished in time to send out the first week of January ♥️

Hopefully I read more next year ??

So much Gothic literature crammed into one book. Luckily, Goss does a pretty good job of weaving together the different stories. I enjoyed looking for all the references as I read and am interested in continuing to book 2.

🎧 Dr Jekyl & Mr Hyde‘s young “orphaned” girls meet & join forces with Holmes & Watson to investigate a murder.

The 2 girls are also interested in their mysterious father.

Other “classic” monsters make appearances so this all felt comfortably familiar. Lestrade is a vampire.

It turns out that Mr Hyde has been up to no good.

I‘m loving these Sherlock Holmes spin offs I‘ve been coming across lately!! Looking forward to book two!! ❤️

The game is afoot …

The daughters of Dr. Jekyll / Mr. Hyde have engaged the services of Mr. Sherlock Homes, Dr. Watson and Inspector Lastrade to find who has been committing vicious murderers and stealing body parts in the streets of London. Now they are on the trail of the daughter of and the creations of the infamous Drs. Moreau and Frankenstein.

I like to call this book a “Monster Mash up“. 5-Stars for creativity, and engaging dialogue.

I'm on a roll finishing books today! This is book #3 for the #nutsinmay readathon!
This one wasn't anything amazing and groundbreaking, but it was fun. It didn't take itself too seriously, and I liked the idea of it. I won't buy the sequels, but I'll probably borrow them from the library when I'm in the mood for something like this again.

It was ok. For me, the idea of the story was better than the execution, but that doesn‘t surprise me. I‘m not a fan of Sherlock Holmes (or any of the classic characters in this book), nor have I even found any spinoffs that I really like. But I was still hoping. I listened to the audio. I did enjoy the little “breakouts” where the women would chat amongst themselves as they wrote their story; however, I will not be continuing the series

This was fantastic! It tells the stories of the creations/daughters of Jekyll, Hyde, Moreau, Frankenstein and Rappaccini as they work together to expose the men who created them while being joined by Holmes and Watson to solve the murders of women in Whitechapel. Absolute fun in every way and I can't wait to start the next one with the addition of Van Helsing. The telling of the story was also unique and added to the atmosphere.

Such a fun and awesome read!!! The humour, the camaraderie between the ladies, the imagination & creativity of the author were all top class!

I am conflicted over my favorite character. I loved them all. But, if I have to choose I'll pick Mrs. Spool & Beatrice + Diana ( it's a tie b/w them 😊)

I'll definitely be picking the next book in the series soon. This book was so worth it!

A mash-up of monster stories. I‘m not normally a fan of retellings and using classic characters, but this one was interesting. But while there were things I liked about this story, there were just as many I didn‘t like. Hence the so-so rating.

I‘ve lost track of what number book this is for #screamathon & #scarathlon #teamharkness & all the various readathons I‘m currently in the middle of. 🤷🏼‍♀️😆☠️

It all starts when Mary Jekyll, with the help of Sherlock Holmes, discovers she has a sister... whose last name is Hyde.

From there, Mary, the proper Victorian lady, stumbles on a conspiracy of mad scientists & the women they have created & abused.

To tell you all the literary figures that join the cast would spoil part of the fun, so let‘s just say that by the end we have a team of awesome women who all lovingly embrace the label “Monster”.

TobeyTheScavengerMonk This series starter was fantastic on audio. Also Catherine was my favorite monster. Oh, and Justine too! They were both my favorites. 4y

Overall a strong recommendation with a few caveats.

Strengths: a fun and inventive world, a mystery that‘s fun to follow, and a unique story telling structure that keeps you engaged and chuckling along.

Potential Negative: Goss went for a particular dialect that immerses you in the period but if late 19th century words aren‘t for you then it might be a turn off. The ending is rather extended and this was my only real negative in reading it.

So this quote came after describing the main character with a pale face, dark circles, and pale hair ... which I feel like describes me on a bad day after little sleep ... so I guess I‘ve also seen a monster in the mirror 🙃

When I read this it made me smile, and I felt like “yeah we‘re young and monstrous and we‘re going to change this world!”
So far it‘s interesting to see how Goss compares and contrasts the idea of monster. While in this instance she uses it in a positive sense, she can also use it in the traditional sense that can catch your attention. I‘ll post that quote some time soon🤓
