I can understand why some readers don‘t like the story, maybe the “why” people disappeared from this village, but in my case, I was interested in the mystery of this disappearance. It reminded me at some point Abandon by Blake Crouch. This novel has many similar elements to that novel. Like Abandon, years later someone goes to the place, in this case, a filmmaker to do a documentary about the place. ⬇️

The mystery surrounding the disappearance of every resident of Silvertjärn (small mining town in Sweden) had me captivated. The effects on the surviving family members (who had moved away prior to the disappearance) are heartbreaking. A documentary crew (headed by the granddaughter of one such survivor) goes to the eerie, abandoned town to find answers. When we finally have said answers, it‘s not only terrifying, but more heartbreaking. ⬇️

Haven‘t had much luck with audiobooks lately, but I started listening to the tagged thriller during my walk with my Luna Bear. Hopefully this one can keep my attention 🤞🏼

-This was going to get less of a rating from me, but I bumped it up because it could be “lost in translation” and the past timeline was slightly intriguing.
-This was a cool concept that was executed very poorly
-Did the documentary crew ever really document anything?
-You could call the characters flawed but in my opinion, they were just annoying.
-I‘m not sure what that ending was about and I don‘t care.

I left my current physical book at a friend's house 🙄, so starting another. First few pages are suitably creepy.

Good read. Did not see the ending coming

The start of this book pulled me right in. It did go back and forth in time between Alice and her crew there for five days filming and back in time to the townspeople and what went on at the time. It did slow down for a while with some set-up, but it picked up again. Creepy… those isolated buildings just left with stuff still on the table, etc. It was all so sudden.

Gripping the entire time. The end was a little bit of a let down, but otherwise great story. Kept me on the edge the entire time. #thelostvillage #translated #horror

Ok, so I finished my audiobook. I actually read this when it first came out but decided to revisit, this time in audiobook and it did not disappoint. I wasn't immediately gripped but after 40ish min of listening I was hooked and listened to it in only a few settings. Very atmospheric and besides some detailing of a horrific death, it's not gory or much of a horror. The ending seemed like a let down imho. I don't know if I was hoping for a more supernatural bent or for an ambiguous end- whatever it was didn't hold the same as the middle.

Definitely more of a mystery-thriller feeling than horror. I didn‘t think it was scary or creepy at all. There are multiple mysteries layered on top of one another, all resolved by the end. Very atmospheric, which I loved, and there is a lot of tension throughout. The pages turn fast. A lot seems to happen in this one starting at the very beginning, and while it isn‘t really anything new, it was a lot of fun to read.

This is one I read at the end of last year after having won one of her books on Goodreads.

This book starts out fast and does not let up. She takes away all your safety and leaves you scared the entire time
This book easily slid into my top ten books of all time.

I really enjoyed the ominous setting this book took place in. It made me want to continue reading. Not a scary story but it had an unsettling undercurrent. The author does a phenomenal job with dual timelines and links them very well. You will probably know the direction the story is heading but it‘s still twisty in less severe ways. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Lost Village excels with its atmosphere; one can practically smell the decrepit buildings, feel the decayed wood beneath your feet. It falters the most in the writing‘s construction; it could have used a bit more polish, another round of line edits. The ending blunders a tad, but again, I think that‘s more of a structural issue than a story issue. Overall, I enjoyed the novel and intend to keep Camilla Sten on my radar.

I don‘t know anything about this book or the author Camilla Sten, but the blurb claims The Blair Witch Project meets Midsommar. I can‘t pass that up!

I liked this one. Good “ghost” story with a nice twist at the end.

The present day exploration of the town had the tone of a horror movie. Walking through abandoned buildings while ignoring the strange things happening around them. Typical denial until it is too late. By the end of the book we find out what happened to the villagers. It wasn't much of a surprise, and I feel that if people had looked a little harder they would have found them. I did enjoy the writing style and felt it was interesting.

A page turner - creepy and a twist ending - and did I say creepy - I could see and feel the village and fear - past and present - really enjoyed this one!
Minor typos/timeline mistake - nothing that ruined the story for me -

After the impressive, but emotionally damaging nonfiction books I read I needed something in my "comfort" genre.

This creepy ghost story of a haunted town is a low pick for me. While I loved how the story was unveiled between the present-day documentary and the past journals and letters, there were some open ended aspects that left me a little unfulfilled.

The descriptions of the town were very atmospheric and scary and really make the story.

It's tradition in my house to have Chinese on New Year's Eve but we had a sick boy last night so we switched to today. No company over this year, just the family but there's going to be lots of food and it smells great! Listening to my first #NewYearWhoDis pick while I cook away!

Atmospheric and dark. There‘s a lot to like here, and while some choices struck me as odd, I really loved this book. Definitely a great choice if you like ghost town stories.

It started slow but picked up. A description inside says it‘s Blair Witch meets Midsommar—but I wouldn‘t go that far. What this book is about, is how mental illness can end in tragedy, when it is untreated and seen as a bad, shameful, even evil—thing—especially in womxn🥀If you are suffering, please know that is okay to not be okay, it is okay to get help and there is no shame in it. There is always someone who will listen without judgement.

This is a solid 4 star for me. Good concept, well constructed, eerie atmosphere, good flow. The characterisation felt a little paint by numbers. The exception being Elsa, but she is in the 'past' timeline and we spend most of our time in the 'present'. Everyone in the present is a little obvious for lack of a better description. But not in a way that would make you put the book down. Well worth a read, won't blow your mind.

I have mixed feelings. It‘s a quick read, entertaining enough and I liked how the ending surprised me! I thought I knew where it was going but was wrong. However, I feel like this book could have used more oomph. It was trying to comment on mental illness and how woman have been treated over time but I don‘t think it did enough. It got started but landed flat. Didn‘t particularly care for the characters but the atmosphere was cool. 👇🏻

My phone died, or at least it suddenly started keeping a charge for all of 30 min on Thursday, and this has really cut in to my audiobook time!! 🙀 however, today I finally managed to finish the tagged book about descendants of a mysteriously abandoned mining town going back to film a documentary at the site. I‘m trying, #teamslaughter! One day left for #scarathlon, and I‘ll do what I can with the brand new phone 📱 🎃

So, I‘m glad that this book wasn‘t as scary as I expected it to be. It‘s more of a mystery with a serious creep factor. I really enjoy it and found it addicting. It kind of reminds me of Limetown. But more realistic. 🌟🌟🌟🌟 #outstandingoctober

This was a great horror read, a small group of folks comes to remote village to document the small village if silvershern that is a ghost town. But has many secrets behind it. Well done with lots of surprised throughout. Loved the narrator and the back and forth through time to tell the whole story. 4.5 stars

I have seen mixed reviews for this book, but it hit the creepy mark for me. I highly recommend the audio if you pick it up.
In 1959, all of the residents of Silvertjarn, except a dead body hanging on a pole and an infant, found alive, disappear. Now, Alice and four other documentary crew members return to the old mining village to find out what happened. The story unfolds flipping back and forth between 1959 and now.
