I‘ve not read much historical fiction from this time period, and I liked how each character explored a different aspect or event of 1969.

This was a vibrant, sad, authentic story of a complicated family during a turbulent summer. I loved the nods to the history and music of the time and the tight knit bonds that kept this struggling family together. This book felt deeper to me than some her others and I‘ll be thinking about it for awhile. #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

The summer of 69...A summer of highs and lows; For the country- Vietnam, Man on the moon, The Chappaquiddick incident. And for the Levin family - The only son is drafted, The oldest sister is expecting twins, one sister involved in the civil rights movement, and the youngest just entering her teenagec years encounters all the expected angst and harbors a few secrets. The youngest may have a few secrets but...(cont in comments)

TheHeartlandBookFairy but so does everyone else including the matriarch grandmother. Marriages in trouble, Self doubt, and at the end of the summer so much growth! This book shows wonderful character development and story telling that Elin Hilderbrand is known for. Make sure you read the Authors note at the end - there is such a beautiful personal tie to this story! 2y
Ruthiella I feel like this would be fun to read during a cold winter as an alternative to the outside weather! 2y
TheHeartlandBookFairy @Ruthiella It's definitely cold here in Michigan right now lol Interestingly enough, the book actually ends in December, culminating with Thanksgiving and a short time after that. The day I finished listening to the book was the exact date of the last day that took place in the book. Also, the author has a twin brother, there are boy girl twins in this book, and I have boy girl twins. And Elin is just one of my favorite authors ❤️ 2y

Hilderbrand often gets a bad rep since she's a woman writing about women but her stuff is pretty good, and this is no exception. Summer of '69 is a coming of age tale, and the author does an excellent job weaving in the history of the time.

A weekend full of soccer tournament games left us whooped. I didn‘t have tons of time to read, but I did get to finish this gem! A story full of character growth and change; romantically and emotionally. Historical facts and situations woven in, yet, the drama and intrigue kept this a light, beachy-vibe read!

The perfect book to read at Memorial Day weekend for the start of summer! This book had allll kinds of plot elements, but they were all wrapped up. I actually appreciated how warm-hearted this book was. It was a little thin in some ways, but overall it was a great summer read!

This is one of my #BOTM books but I think EH‘s books are better on audio so that‘s the direction I took. I loved this one! This is one of her forays into historical fiction and I loved reading about the characters in Nantucket in the summer of ‘69. So much interesting stuff happening that year. 5⭐️

JenlovesJT47 @RenePenn yes! I sped through that whole thing in a day and thought it was a good story, although I did get really frustrated with the main characters. The follow-up novella was nice too. 3y

Really great character story about a family from Boston spending their traditional summer at the beach, but the summer of 69, as we all know, was anything but traditional. I really loved getting to know these characters, and spending my cool, fall days in their warm, summer world.

I enjoyed this quick read about 3 generations of women from one family in the summer of ‘69. Throughout the novel moments of history are mentioned but the real heart of the novel is the family and the things they individually face that one summer. My favorite parts were probably reading about 13 year old Jessie and her transition from a child to her own strong willed person.

A fun read set on Nantucket & Martha‘s Vineyard during the eventful summer of 69.
I enjoyed this story of a family and it‘s 3 generations of strong New England women, set against the backdrop of historic events. As everything changes around them, these women are finding their place in the world. Secrets are shared, friendships are made, heartbreaks endured and summer romances blossom. The chapter titles are fun too -song titles from the era! 🎶💕

Thank you @Cinfhen for recommending this. Count me as a #HilderbrandHead now! 4 books & counting!

1969 was a turning point in American culture, and the Foley-Levin family is in the middle of it. Tiger is fighting in Vietnam, Blaire‘s husband is a scientist on the moon landing, Kirby is working on Martha‘s Vineyard in Ted Kennedy‘s hotel, and young Jessie hit puberty. And mom Kate is drinking to handle all of it. A great family drama! 4⭐️🎧

I always love Elin Hilderbrand books and this was no exception. I really loved that she placed it in a past time line and weaved many of the events that happened during that summer right into the story. She even named the chapters after songs from that time. I enjoyed the story and liked the various characters. It was a fun summer read as are all of her books but I really did enjoy this one.

This was refreshing, like a long tall glass of lemonade...not too sweet but super satisfying 🍹Elin Hilderbrand weaves in historical and cultural events ( Woodstock, Moon Landing, Vietnam War,,Chappaquiddick) all occurring during the summer of 1969 and ties it to a Nantucket family. I‘m eagerly anticipating a sequel...apparently in February a novella was published Summer of ‘79 but it‘s no longer available 😩 #BookWithSummerInTheTitle

Like all of Hiderbrand‘s books, I found the writing style simplistic, but the beachy atmosphere always makes up for that for me. Set on both Nantucket and Martha‘s Vineyard, it‘s the summer of 69 and times they are changing. Civil rights, feminism, and the Vietnam War are just a few backdrops in this multi generational family story. This is a solid beach read. Three and a half stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

It was the summer of protests of the Vietnam war, civil rights, and women's lib, the summer of a new president"Nixon" and Apollo 11, the summer of Chappaquiddick and Woodstock. This novel surrounds the"Foley-Levin" family living their summer life on Nantucket amidst struggles concerning the lives of their children intwined with the changing tides nearing the end of the turbulent 60's. Interesting sidenote-author EH was born July'69❤️

I have loved every Hilderbrand book I have read so far. This winter I want to read her winter series.
This book at times I had to think about the historical context to fully comprehend what was going on., but I think that is because it was before my time.
