Utom i Djursholms allmänna gymnasium. Jag pressar naglarna in i mina handflator, försöker ta mig därifrån. Men det hjälper inte. Min hjärna släpar alltid tillbaka mig till det där jävla klassrummet." Störst av allt är en stenhård rättegångsthriller, ett inkännande porträtt av en ung människa och en svidande vidräkning med ett samhälle som obönhörligt håller på att glida isär. Ett drama som väcker frågor om skuld och ansvar, straff och försoning. Omslagsformgivare: Miroslav Sokcic

Rich and privileged Maja is on trial for a school shooting during which she shot her best friend and boyfriend. The Swedish papers have already decided her guilt but did she do it? And if so, why? Is she a cold blooded murderess or a victimized teenager? This is not a thriller. It is a slow read that touches on race and entitlement alongside the high school drama. It could be shorter but once I got caught in Maja‘s story I had to see how it ended.

I‘m giving this a pick because the beginning & the end were excellent.... I liked the different voices of Maja & how she changes throughout the story. I did find the middle part of the book patchy & a bit long-winded. Overall , an interesting read.

This is a sample of one of Maja‘s voices. She‘s late teens & in a world & a place no one should ever be in. A very interesting book & study of the world today ... I‘m not even halfway-

4/5â

I picked this up because I saw there was a Netflix adaption and that looked quite good, based on the trailer, and it seemed like something I would enjoy reading and I did! It seemed so real, the whole trail... That's what you get when the author was a lawyer! So well written! I loved it! Now I can start with the adaptation, I'm curious!

A Swedish teenager is on trial for mass murder of her classmates. However, this book is much more than this explanation. An examination of wealth and privilege, "outsiders", love and obsession, and so much more about the human condition. Some of the text was a bit clunky, in the way that translated works sometimes are. Altogether, this was an excellent crime novel, from a different perspective. Also, a #Netflix series I plan to watch soon.

I've read less that flattering reviews of this one, but I'm enjoying it. I like the Swedish-ness of it and intrigued about where it's headed.

While I love Swedish mysteries, I had my doubts when I read what it was about. This was about more than the mass shootings though. I found the discussions of immigration, race, privilege, and guilt very compelling - especially in today‘s world. And it was a good read.

Trigger warning âš ï¸ since this is about a high school shooting and a girl on trial for it. I'm having a hard time putting into words a description for this. The author does an amazing job with this story. Lots of feels and thinking with this one.

I don't read thrillers often, but after reading this I feel like I should! A mass shooting in a Stockholm classroom provides the frame for this story of class, mental health, and the challenge of finding one's place.

I would love recommendations for similar books. Not necessarily a similar storyline, but a similar tone.

It took me awhile to get into this one but I seriously recommend continuing even if you feel like the plot doesn't have much momentum. I found myself struggling to put it down as I moved further into the trial. I loved the intricacies of the trial procedures as well as the background story Maja shares. A great, complex read!

Guys, super torn on this one. The plot seemed so intriguing but I am 1/4 into this book and the plot hasn't been fully explained yet, or characters fully explained, and it makes for a rather confusing mess. Do I stop now and move on to another book in my insane TBR pile or keep going? Anyone read this, does it get better?

LauraBrook I haven't read this, but what I usually do is skim-read to the middle of the book, read a page or two, and decide from there. Generally when I do this, I end up bailing. 8y
Reviewsbylola I like @LauraBrook 'S method. And I agree, if I get to that point, chances are it's a bail. 1/4 of the book is definitely a decent chance. 8y
ErikasMindfulShelf I finished it and thought it was ok. It got better towards the middle/end. 8y

So, downside, this book was long, over 500 pages. Upside, nicely written, good story, kind of creepy, but in a good way....plot, school shooting, only survivor accused of abetting the shooter, her boyfriend. Book is told from her perspective. Lots of teenage angst and thought process which really made you think about what it is like to be young and first love. Recommended

Premise is interesting. A teen in an abusive relationship commits a school shooting with her boyfriend. Told from her perspective, she examines the sequence of events alongside her perspective of the trial. However, none of the characters (friends, parents, attorneys, etc) are likable; I found I couldn't connect or sympathize with any of them. Also, rabbit trails abound. Entertaining but I probably wouldn't seek out this author again

This was an interesting literary crime fiction. A little repetitive and occasionally slow paced, Quicksand's narrator is 18 year old Maja who is accused of mass murder at her school. The author takes time to explore Maja's life with her boyfriend and friends before the shooting, which adds perspective to the ongoing trial. There's a subtle but efficient message about class, society, and race issues in Sweden. I liked it but I didn't love it.

Jejalena Eller hur @Asaja? 8y
