The Mercyverse will always be my favorite, but this was really good. It‘s a standalone high fantasy, comparable to Briggs‘ Raven and Dragon duologies. Aren‘s husband and family are massacred by raiders. After her metaphorical world is upended the literal world follows, and she and her village must adapt to the reawakening magic. What will Aren do to save those who won‘t accept her?

One of my all time favourite fantasy books!
This is a stand alone novel filled with magic, interesting creatures, and a woman who vows to save her village from raiders and the new magical creatures terrorising it!

I honestly love this book and think every fantasy reader should give it a go! :)

Made a pilgrimage to my Mecca (McKay‘s used books) today, which happens about once a year. My SIL is awesome and always takes me when we visit. I went a little nuts with books for the kid and forgot most of what I wanted for me. Most of her books are school-related, so bonus for that!

I will ALWAYS love this book! This is been a favorite from the first time I read it! I can‘t make a real guess at how many times I‘ve read it, or even remember exactly when I first read it, around 2002 or 2003, maybe? A blend of magic, self discovery, romance, and sociology, I would hold this up as an example of a perfect story for me.

I am a huge fan of fantasy so I have loaaaaads I wanted to highlight (Patricia Briggs, Kelley Armstrong, Kim Harrison, Ilona Andrews, Keri Arthur, Cassandra Clare, Robin McKinley, Richelle Mead, Kristin Cashore, Nalini Singh...) But went with 2 of my favourite and slightly unusual, stand-alone fantasy novels.

I would highly recommend both if you haven‘t read them @LazyOwl :)

Although I read both fantasy and sci-fi, I am most definitely a fantasy fan. As this challenge focuses on characters, I want to give some love to the Hob!

The poor guy awakens from a type of hibernation following the reemergence of magic, and discovers he is the last of his kind. He is mischievous, magic, and such fun to read about!

I love this book. So beautiful.
Plus there are some pretty awesome creatures! Shapers, hillgrims, earthens, elementals, pikka, and of course the Hob.
A mixture of fantasy and romance that I definitely recommend to all as a fun and sweet read! Unfortunately I can't say much without spoilers. 💕❤️

Back to the #bookisholympics following a brief break to do some applications.

For #booktwo I will be reading one of my favourites. A stand alone fantasy with an amazing heroine and a unique magical creature, The Hob. The book comes in at 281 pages so slightly longer than book number one.

I at least know I can make a bronze, but I'm #goingforgold ! 🏆

So, in preparation for the #bookisholympics with @TheSpinecrackersBookClub I have gone through my bookshelves and picked out a selection of books to try and read this week. I have chosen a mix of genres that are mostly from my ever increasing tbr pile, and 2 of my favourite novels 😍 I also need to finish reading Wicked!
