The End Specialist | Drew Magary
Imagine a near future where a cure for ageing is discovered and - after much political and moral debate - made available to people worldwide. Immortality, however, comes with its own unique problems - including evil green people, government euthanasia programs, a disturbing new religious cult and other horrors.

🎧 I‘m sitting here wondering whaaaat … 🤔

Good thought provoking book.

Problem: you will die of old age.

Solution: not anymore, we‘ve cured it.

Problem: we‘ve cured old age, think about it, no one is going to die, resources will deplete … what do we do now.

Solution: RAFO LOL seriously not going to give it away .. but it does give you something to think about.

Funny then sad.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

#3books that gave me a book hangover. Drew Magary creates these crazy *$$ worlds that are so hard to leave & In The Tsar's Dwarf the main character, Sorine is just so sharp and gritty and her life at Peter the Greats court had me like !!!😟😮😲 it was a bummer when the book was over! @OriginalCyn620 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

Well that was interesting. Starts out kind of funny and somewhat light hearted then gets progressively heavier and heavier. I‘m not sure what to think of the ending...but it was an interesting exploration of what could happen should we find the “cure” for aging.

Along with The Lathe of Heaven and Parable of the Sower, I‘m on a roll of reading books dealing with human overpopulation.

For my fiction read I started The Postmortal last night. Really interesting concept as science and medicine advances in real life. What happens if we do find the cure for aging?

Also was kind of surprised to see lyrics from a band I like in the epigraph! 🤘🏻

Mehso-so

I just finished this & I‘m not sure what to think. Hence the so-so rating. It wasn‘t what I expected, but it wasn‘t bad.

It‘s really one of the most depressing dystopian stories I‘ve ever read.

Update: I just read the quote on the front. I wouldn‘t call it “an exciting page turner.” But I would say terrifying, but probably not in the way Mark Frauenfelder meant it.

In 2019 "The Cure" for aging is accidentally discovered. Soon nearly everyone and their mother are taking the cure in hopes to live hundreds if not thousands of more years, creating a dystopia that will make your stomach turn. Both gruesome and fascinating. I had a hard time putting this one down. ???

I really liked this book, the story is very dark, and it surprisingly deals with things that would realistically happen in this scenario. The final portion felt a bit rushed

What if they invented a drug that stopped aging? While Magary is still a funny guy, this book is a surprisingly realistic and dark take on what the cultural/political/environmental affects immortality would have on our world. Told as a series of one man's journals found after immortality had been outlawed after the almost-extinction of mankind, Squidapus found the MC a decent vehicle for exploring the fascinating consequences of life without death

Drew Magary is ever funny and weird. The Postmortal showcases this #sharp wit in the telling of a world where aging has been cured (but death hasn't). I read this a few years ago. Thinking of rereading since I enjoyed The Hike so much.

This dystopian thriller questions the political and moral debate concerning immortality in a provocative and entertaining manner. Everything from overpopulation, euthanasia, the role government has, marriage & divorce, family /intimate relationships, and the meaning of existence. Fun, witty, weird, scary, and totally unforgettable. A fast read that shows just how easily humanity will justify injustice and fall victim to the inhuman.

The giant man's ghastly odor has leached into my body through my pores, so that my very insides feel like they've been dragged through a field of manure and left to ferment. I reek like a piece of raw hamburger left out of the fridge for too long. I feel infected, as if a real zombie has bitten me and turned me into a walking, decaying cadaver. #thepostmortal #current

I think this is one of my new favorites ever. It's about how man discovers the cure for aging (not death!) and the consequences of that discovery. It follows the life of one man as he gets the cure at age 29 and survives in a violent new world, has a child, falls in and out of love and question life's meaning as an end-specialist. If you've ever thought about living forever, this book will definitely make you rethink that. #LateNightLitsy #readit
