Book 13 complete!
This book was great. Super atmospheric. Will definitely be reading more from Ruta Sepetys.
Fun fact: the author and I grew up in the same state of the U.S.

I can‘t believe I waited four years to read it. It‘s so good. 5-Stars
It‘s 1950, and as the French Quarter of New Orleans simmers with secrets, seventeen-year-old Josie Moraine is silently stirring a pot of her own. Known among locals as the daughter of a brothel prostitute, Josie wants more out of life than the Big Easy has to offer. She devises a plan get out, but a mysterious death in the Quarter changes everything.
Hey littens! I'm taking myself to New Orleans next month! Any suggestions on books, places to eat or visit?
My Christmas break has begun!
Time to read, eat cookies, and watch holiday movies…
Josie strives to overcome her adversities and get away from New Orleans with the help of all her unexpected friends.
Another phenomenal book by Ruta Sepetys, I can‘t wait for her new one to come out!

Anyone else get this way?
I am listening to the last portion of the story, and it is making me so anxious because the main character is having horrible foresight. I know that nothing good can come from the flawed perspective she has. Movies where characters keep lying and digging themselves further into a hole also make me anxious like this, so just wondering if anyone else feels the same? Gah.
Rita Sepetys never disappoints. Her characters are always great and her history is always on point. This was a great escape. Just what I needed.
Another HF winner from Ruta Sepetys!! 17 yo Josie Moraine is caught between the dream of an elite college and the clandestine underworld of the French Quarter of New Orleans in the 1950s. Rich characters and clever plot!

Had a bit of a week.
This sweet story about a young woman trying to escape her past and go to college was just the thing.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟Sepetys is a master storyteller. This book was in a word, rich. Rich in setting, characters, folklore, with a dash of suspense. New Orleans historical fiction (1950). I relished this story about a young woman‘s plight to find a better life. @Eggs @TheAromaofBooks
I quite enjoy this author and her stories. She always combines historic details, with rich storylines and characters you are sad to say farewell to. This is a story of strength and compassion and grit. New Orleans comes alive in this one.
New Orleans, 1950. Josie has grown up the daughter of a well known prostitute. She doesn‘t want to be anything like her mother though and longs to leave New Orleans and go to college. But that‘s not always as easy as it seems. I loved this story about finding the family you choose and the decisions that shape our destiny.
This #audiobook is keeping me company as I cook, bake, wash dishes and do laundry today!
I just love this book. I love the cast of characters, setting, everything about it.
#YAApril book 13
I‘m super duper loving this book.
#YAApril
I read Ruta Sepetys for the first time last year when I randomly selected Fountains of Silence at my local library. Since then I've been reading her other books, and this makes only my third, but she's definitely one of my favorite YA authors now. 💚
This book is set in 1950s New Orleans, and the setting and the characters are so well done that you feel like you're part of that world.
If you haven't read this author yet, you should. 😁
This was not the most uplifting book, but it was a wonderful story. Josie is the daughter of a New Orleans prostitute. Josie is not proud of this and wants nothing more than to be the exact opposite her mother. Her well known mother makes this difficult for Josie. Regardless of Josie‘s actions, she seems to be constantly plagued by the actions of her mother.
This book is about a young teenager in the 1950s trying to make something of life, but is burdened by the choices of her prostitute mother, caring for an ailing elderly friend, a run-in with the local mob, and new love interests. I found the book to be fun and easy and quick to read; however, Josie experiences so many extreme situations that it begins to feel non-plausible at times.
Ollie‘s book haul. Three happy ladies for $44!!!!
To read or not to read...not even a question.

"The day had a peace about it, like Christmas, when the world stops and gives permission to pause. All over the city, Orleanians were at rest, asleep in their makeup, beads in their beds." -- Ruta Sepetys (pg. 201)
"The men who stayed the whole night had a lot of money, but also a lack of something else, like they had a hole in their soul too big to be patched." -- Ruta Sepetys
First read of the new year.

Another great read this month and I'm so glad I read this. I felt with Josie all along and was really hoping that she can fulfill her dreams. New Orleans in the 50ies is a magical place and Sepetys put a lot of work into making it feel real.
Filled with loveable, quirky characters, this book is a great read for a week off. The main character, Jo, manages to be both tough and warm; you can't help but cheer for her as she faces tough odds. In the end, it's about the family we make and not just the one we're born into. Thanks for the great read, @Crazeedi!
This was a fun light read :) I alternated between the print and audible versions and honestly enjoyed both.
This is the story of Josie, daughter of a prostitute, daughter of New Orleans. A story about finding your people, finding yourself, and the choices you make.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Alternating between the tagged book on Audible and a print copy of TLHH. Enjoying both choices so far!

The tears are still falling down my face, my nose is running, I have to get a Kleenex, but not before I say this book touched my heart. Read it at your own peril if you don't want to cry. I need to add that the ending is good!!
Thank you @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks for giving me this.

I love this book! The 1950 setting in New Orleans was perfect. It‘s about growing up, finding your family, and freeing yourself from abusive and toxic relationships. I will be thinking about Josie and her friends for a long time to come.
This was my first Ruta Supetys book. I‘m looking forward to reading more by this author.
I‘m starting the tagged book on the recommendation of @cjbooklover . She said it‘s really good and a fast read. I‘ll give it a try because she‘s reading my other book from the library, so I can‘t start it yet. *insert eyeroll* 😜
This coming of age story grabbed me right away. I really enjoyed the story and the 1950‘s New Orleans setting.
Eating lunch outside with a book
I loved this book! It had a little bit of everything; romance, mystery, and character development. I really enjoyed watching Josie grow and see the decisions that shape her. There were some really sad parts, but the ending was perfect! I loved what she changed her last name to! (Pay attention to some of the characters last names😉)
Look what my angel sent me! @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Misty you read my mind! I was just searching for this book on my overdrive yesterday and they didn't have it! How did you know?! Thank you so very much, you just made my day.❤🧚♀️💗
4.5 ☆ Out of the Easy is one of those books you read that makes you feel like you experienced something amazing. It has all the seediness and raw grit of the French Quarter underbelly that I haven‘t read before now. That alone made this unputdownable for me. 🎺🦹🏼♀️🦐
