The Great Witches Baking Show
The Great Witches Baking Show: A Culinary Cozy Mystery | Nancy Warren
15 posts | 7 read | 8 to read
A baker with secrets. Witches in trouble. The cameras are rolling. On your marks, get set, die!
Poppy Wilkinson is thrilled to be chosen as a contestant on The Great British Baking Contest. As an American with English roots, winning the crown as Britain’s Best Baker would open doors she’s dreamed of. In more ways than one. Appearing on the reality show is her chance to get into Broomewode Hall and uncover the secrets of her past. But strange things are happening on the show’s set: accusations of sabotage, a black cat that shadows Poppy, suspiciously unsociable residents at Broomewode Hall—and the judges can be real witches. There are murmurs that Broomewode is an energy vortex. It certainly makes Poppy see and do things that aren’t exactly normal, and seems to draw interesting characters to the neighborhood. When a fellow contestant dies in mysterious circumstances, Poppy has more to worry about than burned pies and cakes that won’t rise. There’s a murderer on the loose and it’s up to Poppy and her new friends to solve the crime before it becomes a real show-stopper. From USA Today Bestselling Author Nancy Warren, this delicious series of cozy paranormal mysteries will have you guessing until the end. Includes recipes.

According to the StoryGraph I listened to this in July 2022, but I don‘t remember a thing about it. I‘m in the mood for a cozy listen so I‘m listening to this again on #hoopla.

Time to get cracking on this weeks game! Decided to tackle it in lists of different ways to match to the team reads. First up: has a dog on the cover!

#spookyghostclub #scarathlon

Lizpixie How do we post our game results? Do we have to name every book on our list or do you trust me to accurately list my points instead? 1y
Clwojick They should be listed somewhere, but you don‘t actually have to post every single name. For example, I have 4 pages front and back so far, so I‘ll just post a picture of the stack of papers when I‘m done. We‘re pretty trusting with these games, and tagging every book would tag FOREVER! 1y

Half way through the first one book, and it‘s exactly what you‘d expect from a paranormal cozy, but it‘s the perfect thing to listen to while I work my way through all these #scarathlon notifications and then get cracking on this weeks game. ☺️

I‘m really trying to hold off reading my witchy book. It looks like this series is set up to be 1 book per episode of the show.

Poppy was left on a bakers doorstep and doesn‘t know her birth family. She was adopted and had a great upbringing, but wants to know where she comes from. She learned baking from a ghost and ends up on GBBO. Someone is murdered and she has to figure out who the murderer is with the help of a ghost.

Laughterhp I think this is the first book I finished for #SuperSeptember @Andrew65 2y

In the office today. I could work out over lunch or I could read. Guess which I picked lol? I‘m justifying it by telling myself today is the first day I haven‘t felt under the weather so I shouldn‘t push it 😂

I loved the baking show aspect of this one. It was sweet and charming. But the mystery was mediocre. Fun idea. Could have been executed better.

Was feeling a little off yesterday so bingeread the 4 books in this series. It is pure fluff and just the tonic I needed. There‘s food, witchery, ghosts, suspicious deaths, an old English manor house, and behind-the-scenes of The Great British Baking Contest! These are quick, enjoyable, escapist reads. Such fun!

rachelm Oh my gosh how fun! 4y

Thanks @BeaG for a fabulous #cozyswap package! It‘s getting cooler at night here, so the hot chocolate will definitely be appreciated while I‘m reading these books. I take Swedish fish with me when I travel, so I haven‘t had any for a while.

Thanks to the organizers, too! This was a fun swap.

I finished all the available Vampire Knitting Club mysteries, and already have the next few pre-ordered. And started her newest series, featuring a GBBO-esque setting, a heroine with a mysterious past, and a murder. Oh, and the two celebrity judges are witches too. So fun!
