Published in 1960, somethings never change and her advice was timeless. Somethings have changed and it was a good reminder to hear her speak from her era.

A nonfiction piece by the former First Lady. I love the point she makes about learning through every thing you do, but much of what she says feels dated and elitist. She talks about how to train your servants and things like that, which obviously is not applicable to most people. Good read, but take it with a grain of salt.

1. This was a beautiful pan of a yummy treat called “Chocolate Caramel Delight”. THE DOGS ATE IT😢*they were fine
2. Didn‘t buy, just borrowed from library.
3. 35 states and 1 territory
4. I have a small collection of different editions of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” but I don‘t really collect any books.
5. No international travel plans this year but passport is always ready, just in case :)
Thank you for the book @Notafraidofwords! I absolutely love these Olive Editions, so Eleanor fits in quite nicely. 💕
I greatly admire Eleanor Roosevelt. She was a woman before her time. Her writing is both eloquent and direct. Some may find her ideas out of step with today‘s world, but sweep away the notions of her times, and you are left with a universal wisdom. This is a deeply satisfying book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️#mmdbookclub @annebogel
When your purse won‘t close and there‘s the potential it has something to do with the number of books ...
Eleanor Roosevelt wrote this when she was 76. It is one of 29 books that she wrote in her lifetime. The subtitle is Eleven Keys for a More Fulfilling Life and she certainly had the life experience to offer advice. I particularly liked the chapter “HowEveryone Can Take Part in Politics”. Martin Luther King said on her death : ‘‘Her life was one of the bright interludes in the troubled history of mankind‘‘ #booked2018 #feministclassic
“The trouble is that not enough people have come together with the firm determination to live the things which they say they believe. Spinoza once made a profound comment: “Men believe a thing when they behave as though it were true.””
@Cinfhen Spinoza! I am seeing him quoted everywhere now!

I can relate to the abnormally timid girl Eleanor Roosevelt describes here. I was an incredibly shy child. But I grew into a sensitive, yet caring, adult (who just happens to be an introvert). Also, I LOVE the second paragraph! #inspiration
"Life is interesting only as long as it is a process of growth; or, to put it another way, we can grow only as long as we are interested." An amazing woman! #womenshistory #marchintoreading #shepersisted
Waiting for my daughter while she gets x-rays. #prepared
I could have used this for #authorwhosharesyourname as well but I was saving my only really pink cover for today! There is a great chapter in here on "how everyone can take part in politics" which looks especially relevant in today's environment when I'm often stuck with a the thoughts of what should I do?! #pinkcovers #riotgrams
This is the last day my family is in town so what better way to show them the sights than bring them to a bookstore?!? And of course I had the perfect place to send my Christmas money!!
This is such a great book. So sensible, practical, and 'get the job doneness' that I just love.
And the purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience,.
Today the world faces a great challenge: on one side a government preserved by fear, on the other a government of free men. I haven't ever believed that anything supporter by fear can stand against freedom from fear.
"When you come to understand self-discipline you begin to understand the limits of freedom. You grasp the fact that freedom is never absolute, that it must always be contained within the framework of other people's freedom." -Eleanor Roosevelt, approved by Holly the cat.
I invite all living creatures in the galaxy to read this book and learn from Mrs. Roosevelt. She writes with such an easy personable style. I felt like she was chatting with me in my living room! The male pronouns did not bother me (that was the correct English grammar rule at the time). Her message is what matters and it's a good one! #civics #education
I really admire Eleanor Roosevelt & there's some really good advice. But it was published in 1960 and much of it is of the time as far as gender roles. #bookisholympics
