Catching up on a belated review of this #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead! This YA historical fiction based on L.M. Montgomery‘s teen years felt a bit lacking for me. Of course the author had to work within the events of Maud‘s life, but I thought the narrative needed a bit more shaping or different framing, to make it more of a cohesive whole—as well as more depth of characterization all around. Similarly, the ending felt abrupt and a bit unfinished.⤵️

I wasn‘t aware that LMM was influenced by Alcott and Little Women, but I enjoyed the references within the novel, and the connections that Fishbane draws out. What connections do you see between Little Women and LMM‘s life and/or her books?

Maud is a work of fiction, and the author is quick to point out that it‘s not a biography. Did the book work for you as historical fiction? Or was it distracting to wonder what was biographical and what was fictional?

I finished this one today for the #kindredspiritsbuddyread. I won't say too much ahead of our discussion, but I enjoyed this. Two thoughts -- 1, I wish there was a sequel covering Montgomery's adult life, and 2, the flowers on the cover should be lupines (this cover is pretty though).

Saturday reading for #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead! I‘m enjoying this but also finding it a bit stressful, knowing the difficulties that Maud‘s life contained. I just started the Prince Albert section and am worried about what‘s in store for Maud! How is everyone‘s reading going? I‘m looking forward to discussing this next week!

I loved this well-researched fictional account about the teenage years of one of my favourite childhood authors. Reading it really opened my eyes as to how much of Montgomery's real life experiences became part of her fictional stories. Recommended for anyone who is a fan of the Anne of Green Gables series.

I took this book with me on holiday to Prince Edward Island • I adore green gables and have always been fascinated by the story• I felt like I was getting to Know Lucy in this book .... Like it was a door to Anne. L.M Is a magical writer full of so much passion and such a natural with words. It was a fantastic book. I enjoyed every second . The author: Melanie Fishbane wrote it with love & care. What a beautiful story about a beautiful woman. ✌🏼️

To sum it up in a word: charming. It started off a little shaky, with it feeling like the author was basically grafting Anne's personality onto L.M. Montgomery's life, but Maud grew and matured so much throughout the book that that didn't last long. It's a sweet comfort read, especially if you love Anne of Green Gables and want to get some insight into its creator. #bookreview #bibliophile #booknerd #historicalfiction #YA

I absolutely love Anne of Green Gables and have never seen any historical fiction focused on L.M Montgomery, so I am thrilled to be diving into this one! I've read mixed reviews so I hope I'm of the more positive persuasion, but I guess we'll wait and see!

This book enraged me. I hated it so much and I don't understand why it has such good reviews. Maud was so annoying and childish through the first half and the dialogue was just terrible. I hated the writing. If I had not paid full price for this book I would have bailed. This was a huge disappointment.

Am I the only one who takes the dust jacket off the book to read it?

I got this beauty in the mail yesterday from Amazon. I was so excited. Until I looked at it. Giant smudges over the cover and the dust jacket was rumpled and crinkly. So angry. I requested a replacement right away. I don't spend my hard earned money to get a less than perfect copy!

I'm oh so thrilled for my friend Mel and the release of her YA novel MAUD, about the teenage years of LM Montgomery. This is a painstakingly researched labor of love that has the official approval of the Montgomery heirs. I've heard excerpts over the years and I'm just so happy that it exists in book form for everyone to read!

"Next to marrying a cousin, marrying a Baptist is like going to the devil." Well, I never!! ?? guess I've gone to the devil. I married one of them Baptists! ???

Love love love love love. There were squeaks of delight, heart palpitations, and stomach butterflies involved in the reading of this book. I felt like I was in middle school again, which Is awesome, because my middle school self was pure of heart and soul. I got a distinctly Little House on the Prairie vibe from the second half that I wasn't expecting, but then again, I didn't know about Montgomery' time out west. 10/10 would recommend.

I truly enjoyed this historical fiction about a teenaged Lucy Maud Montgomery! It covers time spent living with her grandparents, going to live with her father, and coming back to her grandparents' home while dreaming of becoming a writer and continuously working towards more education along with some romance.

If you enjoy L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Grren Gables and her other books, I highly recommend this.

I made it to 24 hours for the #24in48 readathon with 3 completed books, 1 completed audiobook, and an hour and a half to spare before midnight! The last hour or so was spent finishing my #CovertoCover book and a few more chapters of Maud.

I went to meet up with friends for a while this evening. Now I'm back home with a book, a beverage, a cat on my lap, and the dog right beside me. It seems like the perfect way to end my day and get some more time in for #24in48.

A great line from the upcoming LMM YA novel!!

My friend Mel has been working on this YA novel about Lucy Maud Montgomery's teen years for a very long time! I'm so excited that it's finally coming out this year!!!

I don't usually keep track of many release dates or even work to get a book when it's first published, so I don't really have an anticipated reads list. However, I'm a long time fan of L.M. Montgomery and just got access to this via Netgalley so I'm excited to start it soon!
