An interesting text that deals little with the actual picture itself and more on the psychology of the human lust for pleasure without conscious.
I can‘t wait to discuss the book at club next week.
Just finished listening to the tagged book. Very interesting read. They mentioned in the story about a book poisoning someone. So I thought, could this happen? I decided to come on here and ask all of u lovely littens. What do you think?
4.3⭐️ I was introduced to Serial Reader @Roary47 which is what I‘m using to complete my classic countdown for the year. I really like how it breaks down the classic by issues that you read once a day. I have always wanted to read this book in super excited that I finished my last issue tonight. Looking forward to my next classic February.
“Only two kinds of people who are really fascinating 🧐 those who know everything and those who know nothing “ 😆 some things don‘t change then !

WE INTERRUPT THE READING OF MY LIBRARY BOOK TO SHOW OFF THIS GORGEOUS EDITION OF DORIAN GRAY I GOT AT A BOOKSTORE YESTERDAY
My all time favourite book, I‘m obsessed with the language and beauty of the writing. I even have an Oscar Wilde tattoo!
Runner up is The Power by Naomi Alderman. Both ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ in my book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ I got an assist on my August #LMPBC book when I found a great audio version for free on Audible! I connected more with the first half where there was more of a story and a plot. The second half was more meditative and seemed to hint at rather than describe a lot of the behavior, and I felt less connected to or invested in the characters at that point. Worth a read if you‘re interested in classics.
Read this classic for #LMPBC and it was a really interesting one. A lot to ponder here on what "sin" really is and how self-absorption can change us. I felt like Wilde asked a lot more questions than he answered, but he would probably tell you that his job is to ask questions, not answer them lol
@fredthemoose this one is heading your way today!!

How gorgeous are these covers?!?! Can't afford to buy any this month though 😭
Basic story apart, it's the epigrams we all remember, nearly all courtesy of arch-cynic Lord Henry Wotton, but even leaving those aside (and the best of them manage to be simultaneously hilarious and thought-provoking), the precision of Wilde's descriptions are a joy. Camp as a weekend in Norfolk, of course, but strangely moving.
“Live! Live the wonderful life that is in you! Let nothing be lost upon you. Be always searching for new sensations. Be afraid of nothing.”
Undoubtedly, one of my favourite books by my beloved Oscar Wilde. “The Picture of Dorian Gray” is a remarkable literary portrait of human vanity in the context of Victorian England. Only Oscar Wilde could depict evil as something beautiful, charming and yet despicable. The film released in 1945 is also highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this one, more than I expected!
It was full of wonderful prose, thoughtful exposition, interesting (and at times, annoying) characters, philosophical themes, and was a bit of a horror story as well—at least to me.
Recommend!
SPOILERS FOR DISCUSSION! Just finished Picture of Dorian Grey for the first time and I‘m intrigued by the ending. Generally online I found the idea that when Dorian Grey stabs the portrait he absorbs all the fates of the image including the knife to the heart leaving the picture in tact.
I‘m wondering how many of you have other interpretations or thoughts?
My thoughts in comments. #booktalk
Also counting this for #teamslaughter @Clwojick
Interesting twist of fate of a man based on the friends he acquainted with
Finally finished Dorian Gray which means it‘s time to go to the bookstore for more books! 🥰
Book was great, again like I said in a previous post I was inspired to read this after watching all of Penny Dreadful. Dorian in the book was more child- like in comparison to the show. Great ending and all around great read. I feel like I get bonus points for reading this during Pride month! 😂
A very simple and light-hearted cover to a complex and sinister book

⭐5/5
An absolute pick, I couldn't recommend this enough.
Oscar Wilde's writing is simply poetic.
The characters (Lord Henry especially) are fascinating.
The story also pulls you in, even if you already know what is going to happen.
Need a smile? This gave me much needed laugh 😆! https://lithub.com/50-very-bad-book-covers-for-literary-classics/
- The world is changed because you are made of ivory and gold. The curves of your lips rewrite history.
Lets talk about the character Lord Henry: sometimes spitting straight facts (he gets the best lines in the book) and sometimes a no-good boring snooze-fest (no one wants to read through his gossip). Anyways stan Basil Hallward.
Christmas present from the sister.
I've tried a couple of classics which I didn't like so much.
Let's see how this goes.
My favorite book!!! Loved it from start to finish❤️
"The terror of society, which is the basis of morals, the terror of God, which is the secret of religion."
Weekly total for #scarathlon2020 and #teamharkness 284pts! (I forgot to add one for this post)
Total points for the whole month: 1,389!!!
Happy Halloween!!!! 🎃 ⚰️👻☠️📖🕯🧛🏻♀️🧙🏻🧟♀️
Thank you for hosting such a fun event!!! 🙏 😊
The was the first book that came into my head when I saw #mortality as today‘s #SeptemberSenses prompt, though it is actually youthful immortality for which Gray trades his soul.
The picture of Dorian gray suffers many of the same issues as most the literature of that century. It focuses heavily on waxing philosophies of different characters, such as the quite frankly insufferable Lord Harry, but dances around big events and the meat of the action. There were some sections I liked, but I found myself skimming large chunks of dialogue that just never seemed to progress anything.
This entire book is sturctured to handle a person's fear of getting older. The whole story is about staying young and the characters are anoyingly immature and at the same time they are wishing to stay that way as long as possible. This really wasn't the right book for me. I think with a bit better characters the story would have worked much better.
I was hoping to love this but it is making me struggle. ☹🎧
You know the story, but to get the full creepiness factor you need to read the book. And maybe watch the movie? #OscarWilde #AugustAuthors
Kicking my day off with a classic.

Heathcliff, Dorian, and Dallas are #quintessential literary bad boys, and I love them all! 🖤

I learned a few things while listening to this book:
1. Dorian Gray is a spoiled little bitch
2. I like the story of Dorian more than the actual book
3. Simon Callow is the most fantastically dramatic narrator ever!
4. Seriously, Dorian Gray is such a whiny bitch!
