A new favourite, this book felt like a hug. I was hooked from start to finish and genuinely didn‘t guess who the killer was! Such a good book, and the series continues to be enjoyable.

I‘m obnoxiously picky about the kind of Fantasy I enjoy…but I‘m finding myself in a particular ~mood.~ So, I‘m seeking recommendations! Help me out if you love a challenge!
Some series that‘ve hit the right spot recently-ish are featured. I‘m not big on High Fantasy battles, politics, or character names. Adult fiction preferred (though younger protagonists are okay, and even encouraged!).
This was surprisingly fun and surprisingly grisly. First in a series but works as a standalone. Has both trans and ace rep. And a mad scientist apprentice who is skilled at body disposal and making hot chocolate. Great book for when you want to read a whole story in one go.
Taking a break from my Big Books to find out if this much shorter book is a "one sitting" kind of read. Somehow it is due back to the library in two or three days. How did almost three weeks pass already? What even is time? Almost half the year gone! How?! Where did it go?
SM is an amazing writer and an even more amazing person. The “about the author“ page she wrote about herself at the end of this book makes me adore her. This story was twisted and wicked and creepy – so it was awesome! The characters were unique and lovable. Great fantasy / horror book.

Characters weren't really likable or interesting. I might have had a bit too high expectations.
This was too confusing to be likable. I hated how long it took to understand what was happening. Yes, this had a hint of magic but...

Another beautifully written book. Short and sad and magical. I really enjoyed this one 💜
Creative premise and good writing but it was horrifying also-just not for me.

This is the first book in the Wayward Children series. I've read book 8 without realizing it was a series and loved it. Book 1 was a little different. It was a little gruesome and darker than I expected. I didn't like it as much as book 8 but it was entertaining. 3.5 ⭐️

I am personally of the opinion that if a kid wants to read, let them read what they want.
… But I do also think that every kid should have the opportunity to read the Wayward Children series. If only because I think everyone should read them. ❤️
#SundayFunday I hope you all have a marvelous day, and don‘t forget to tag me!
This book took forever to pick up. I don‘t think I actually got invested until the last 60 pages.
August 29
I like the Wayward Children series and the first book takes place almost entirely at a boarding school. #two4tuesday
On reread I‘m moving this up to 4.5⭐️
I never continued in the series and look forward to continuing.

Bk4 of May is done. I started to read the 7th in this series & realised I couldn‘t remember the previous books! Stupid Covid brain fog. So I‘m rereading all of them, thank god they‘re novellas! This was just as wonderful as the first time I read it in 2016. A unique take on the portal fantasy, it‘s about the children who return & are cut adrift from both worlds. Eleanor West‘s school is their haven, until the bodies are found. #BookspinBingo 👇
Seanan McGuire! And all of her pseudonyms! I haven‘t read a book of hers I didn‘t like yet!
I have a huge soft spot for the Wayward Children books. ❤️
#SundayFunday Have a great day, and remember to tag me!
A combo of 10,000 Doors of January and The Hazel Wood (both of which I liked) with a little of A Deadly Education (which I didn't like). Very short read that left me feeling a bit short changed.
On a reread for #waywardchildrenreadathon, I‘ve lowered my rating to a 4. 🤷♀️ - 13/01/2023
😲😳🤯🤤 I'm glad I've waited on purchasing the Wayward Children books. Can't wait to get this collection!
I don‘t need a fourth copy of these books. I don‘t need a fourth copy of these books. I don‘t need a fourth copy of these books.
Oh who am I kidding. 😅😅 #CoverReveal
Book 129
Set in a boarding school for kids who unwillingly returned to the world after traveling through unique doors to live in other dimensions. It's weird, simple, and complex with diverse characters. Can't wait to read the next one and to look into more by the author. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Since my reading buddy has gotten cozy on my lap I will start on this book. Dog law says I can't disturb him when he's sleeping on me. 🤷🏼♀️ His light snoring is providing an interesting soundtrack.
Happy Saturday friends!
I haven‘t been following the #ManicMonday tag but @Librariana tagged me & I‘m using it as an excuse to promote my husband‘s band. #shameless 😅🙈

Gunna try to finish the tagged book. Think I only have a half hour left. Then I think I will jump to an oldie, Vampire Kisses. I haven't read this in so long. I wanna get the whole series done.
One question I wanted to ask is which one should I read for my free-card on #bookspinbingo according to you, I can‘t choose between these two?
Comment either 🚪or 🦊

While I liked this book a lot, I feel like it was quite rushed. I already miss Jack and I felt like things wrapped up so quickly and neatly. Yes, I realize this is YA and probably utilizes a different pace so I'm going to be forgiving and grab the next book to see where we go! Points for diversity and encouraging acceptance!
Finally found a book to bust my slump!!! April was becoming the month of DNF and I accidentally fat fingered this open in my Overdrive app. I read half the book in 1 sitting and I'm HOOKED! I tagged the rest of the series in Libby and I might switch to audio to get through it faster! 💜
I loved this book. I mean I LOVED this book. It's a 174 pages of amazing. It's imaginative and something that only this author could pull off. The second book is on its way right now and I can't wait. Did I have the killer pegged from the beginning? Yes, but the question is did I care? No I didn't. The power of this book is in the storytelling and no one spins a fairytale like Seanan McGuire. What an #awsomeapril
A sort of Alice Through the Looking Glass theme but if there were multiple Alices who ended up in different worlds, each suited to that particular child's needs and capabilities. The book follows students at a boarding school who long to return to the worlds they stumbled into. After Nancy arrives from an Underworld students at the school are murdered one by one. I enjoyed the theme of acceptance but the book fell just shy of expectations 3.5⭐️

I will never stop talking about this series ❤️
@Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Eggs
This story explores what happens when children return from their fantasy worlds - it does have some violence/gore - for me the themes of acceptance, love, friendship, coping with loss, stood out the most. I will be continuing with the series, looking forward to learning more about the characters and the worlds from which they returned.

Added the tagged title as an audiobook - can't drive without listening to a book!
Here is my progress on #BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks at the halfway mark.
Hoping to finish most of the red (currently reading) this week during #MarvellousMarch @Andrew65.

February went by in a flash! I started not one, but two new jobs and while I still managed to read lots, I didn‘t post at all! This month I‘m going to finally read the Wayward Children series - I had to edit them into this picture as my library holds haven‘t come in yet 😂 #BookSpinBingo
I like this one. It‘s quirky, a little dark, a little sad, and very well written. It‘s also fairly short, so it‘s a really quick read.
This is my favorite of McGuire's books. It's so heartfelt and lyrical. The book answers the question, “Where do magical children go once their quests have been completed?“
🎧 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Eleanor West‘s Home for Wayward Children. A place for children who've been returned from the magical places they've disappeared to in the past; labeled wayward (mostly by their parents). Nancy arrives at EWHWC and she makes several new friends who understand what she's going through. Home is no longer her home; she wants to find the door back to her place. Will she be able to do so as a series of murders occur or will she be next?
Ohh no. Unpopular opinion.
So disappointed in this.
This needed to be at least twice as long, at least 3times as deep, and someone take the diversity checklist away from this author. Not organic at all. I was so excited about the concept and an asexual main character but nothing about this worked for me. Especially the 1 latin character who goes to the Día de Muertos land, how stereotypical (did Rowling give notes on this? It was that subtle).
Don't often post photos of myself here but this all felt very magical. Reading this book at the Goonies rock. #gooniesneversaydie
I figured the Goonies rock would be the best place to read about these wayward children.
I just realized this is the same author who goes by Mira Grant so I am excited to dig into this!
For us, the places we went were home. We didn‘t care if they were good or evil or neutral or what. We cared about the fact that for the first time, we didn‘t have to pretend to be something we weren‘t. We just got to be. That made all the difference in the world.
I didn't realize how much I needed a new book series in my life & I‘m delighted to have found one. The entire concept of mysterious doorways that sporadically appear to other worlds is fun, interesting, & full of possibilities. As an intro to the book's world, it allowed the explanations to unfold to its protagonist, so it was enough but not overwhelming with too much detail. (I did dock .5 star for being a bit TOO rushed at times tho)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Loved the books I have read from this series about all the different worlds through magical doors 🥰

Before I went through that doorway, I knew there was no such thing as a portal to another world. Now I know that if you open the right door at the right time, you might finally find a place where you belong.
