So good! I swear Cinda Williams Chima is like the George R.R. Martin for YA novels. Book 4 of 2023 complete!
2023 week 3 wrap up!

🎧 The City of Bones: 56% done
📱 Before I Fall: 23% done
This week's goals: ✅️❌️❌️
Next week's goals: finish the Demon King, finish City of Bones, and read 50% of Before I Fall 🌟
A solid 4 star read. I had a bit of trouble getting into it at first because I find it hilarious that Hans has all this street credit and different life but he‘s like 15. So I can‘t take it seriously most times. Besides that, a great first book to a fantasy!
I‘ve had this book since I was 16 and lost track of how many times I‘ve read it — it may be the most beat up book I own since usually I try to take good care of them. Paperbacks weren‘t meant to be read this much 😅
⭐️⭐️⭐️This book was good, but it was a slower start to the series than I was expecting. It did a good job setting up all the political/magical/personal story lines & conflicts, and I‘m interested to see if the pacing changes now that all the groundwork has been laid. I‘m not sure I‘d recommend this book on its own, but it is a solid opener, and based on where I think the story is going to go, I think it‘ll be a great series.
3.5 Stars
I feel like everyone had three different names which made it hard to keep track of who was who. This one read like an older YA fantasy which was a nice change.
WAY better than I thought it would be. Amazing, unique characters. A solid world history. It sucked me in and kept me intrigued from page 1. I ordered the rest of the series immediately upon finishing it.
I wasn‘t entirely sure about this book at first. The street language threw me off and I just wasn‘t sure about the characters. But as I kept reading and the characters started to develop, I started to enjoy it!
So my 2nd DNF of the year.. I tried 3 times with this audiobook and the story is just so boring and dull. I made it 43% of the way and everytime I picked it up I dreaded it. I finally gave in and said enough is enough. I couldn‘t figure out the setting, none of the characters stood out, the plot was boring and frankly I predicted a major plot line as it was being hinted at :/ it was a pain. I tried because an old friend recommended it to me
So I just started listening to this today while at work, on recommendation from a friend and so far... I am bored as hell. I‘m 3 hours into it and it‘s just boring and predictable. I waited 6 months for this and I don‘t understand why, none of the characters stand out, the story thus far is bland, and each chapter is Soooooo long. I‘m only 5 chapters in and I have listened to 3 hours, holy Jeeves man.
The Demon King was a extremely well written book by Cinda Williams Chima about a world called the seven realms where there is magic and a extremely in depth layout of the world. The story follows a boy named Han Alister commonly known as “Cuffs“ by his street gang the ragers as well as the princess Raisa ana'mariana and how there two worlds are changing all around them. The book is most definitly a must read for any fans of the Harry Potter series
I tried to read the demon king, but unfortunately it is not for me. I am over 100 pages in and I am still not interested in it or any of the characters. Males and females were equal in the book and I really enjoyed that. But the pov kept switching between the main characters, which wouldn't have bothered me normally, except the chapters were short which didn't allow me to get to really know the characters nor did I care what happened to them.
It can be hard, going from one world directly into another. I am trying to get into my new book, but the last one keeps popping up into head. I am unintentionally comparing the two books, which I shouldn't do. I am getting onto myself about it, which takes me out of the story and I just end up staring at the book instead of reading it.
I checked this book out of the library. The librarian wants me to come back and tell her if its good or not, so she can make up her mind to read it. Two other people checked it out before me, one loving it and the other hating it. So I am the tie breaker for her, and other people who will ask if the book is good or not. No problem here lol
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.5/5)
Now that is what I call a killer ending. Chima gives you a hell of plot twist to end a wonderful book of magic, power, empowerment, betrayal, bravery, and mystery. I took half a star off because I wasn‘t a fan of Raisa‘s boy-crazy attitude, but I like how she‘s a self-empowered and strong character otherwise. I‘m interested to see how Han and Raisa‘s paths meet in the next book!
Reading at bars is underrated.
I loved this book when I was 16 and I‘m still reading it at 23. (That candle on the right says “Book Club Bitches” in case anyone was concerned.)
This year I‘m trying to bring my own lunch to work instead of just marking out unhealthy stuff to eat. We‘ll see how long this lasts!
This book was honestly amazing, it may have taken me a while to read just because life gets in the way but I loved it. I‘d say the last 40 pages had more (for lack of a better word) excitement than half the book but still,, 10/10 would recommend
I'm doing a 24 hour readathon today. Trying to get caught up on my goodreads challenge. I'm starting with this. Buddy reading it so only a couple chapters.
It‘s essentially a 500 page prologue. Recently Pat Rothfuss said his series is a really long prologue, but at least there‘s a point to the story and a real plot that drives it forward. The same could be said of A Court of Thorns and Roses, it‘s set up, but it‘s good set up. None of that felt present here until the very end. Too much exposition, not enough reasons to care. I almost bailed to be honest, but now I want to know what happens.
It took 225 pages for the main characters to meet. I think I might be too picky, but that seemed like too long.
Not gonna lie, it‘s taking too long for me to get interested in this book. I just learned more about the Demon King, but it took almost 70 pages to get to that point and it feels like nothing is happening or moving forward. Anyone else feel this way? Should I keep reading? #thedemonking #sevenrealmsseries
I read this book in January for the #ReadHarder Challenge (category: the first book in a new-to-you YA or middle grade series), and I really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to continuing the series soon. #Royalty #Riotgrams
Finishing up this book while taking care of some chores and errands. #LitsyPartyOfOne #LitsyAtoZ #ReadHarder

The box was open and destroyed but thankfully these made it alright.

My boyfriend recommended me this book... loving it so far!
I was expecting it to better than it was based on goodreads rating and a friend's recommendation. Didn't quite hit the mark, but I will definitely try the rest of the series. Good enough to keep me interested.
I may not always have something to snack on while I read, but I will for sure have a cup of tea with my book every night.

My first full book of the day was a long one but a very good one. I can't wait to get my hands on more of this series. I think it might be a long series too. #24in48
I share book recommendations with one of my closes childhood friends, everything from YA to fantasy, to those heart wrenching, make you question everything books. Today I just so happened to pick up one of her YA recs to me, just in time for the #ReadJanuary #RecommendBy challenge! 😄
My first read of 2017 🎉
I really enjoyed this one, far more than I thought I would. I think the hype is quite well-deserved, and I really want to continue the series. 😊
It was also my #OWBookClub pick of the month, because the theme of January is fantasy. And it counts for my #BeatTheBacklist challenge! 👌
Receiving books for this year's Secret Santa reminded me of books I got from past exchanges which I still haven't read. I need to bump these up! Have you guys read any of these?

gonna start reading this for my #26bookchallenge that i started last year. I'm such a slow reader! been sleeping on this for too long 💤
MADE OUT LIKE A BANDIT FOR MY BIRTHDAY. So many good books to read!! 😍📚📖
My most anticipated reads... I hope I can get to all of these on top of my BOTM books coming, but we are visiting family for Kaysen's first birthday, which will be 10 days of traveling and fun-having so we will see, but I am trying to get through some series that have been on my radar and Three Dark Crowns and The Call sound SO good! I know if I really want to catch up, I just need to quit Litsy, but... I can't do it. #HelloOctober #Brokeforbooks
Very cool! Super fantastical and magical, with some awesome characters. There's 3 more books in the series too, so plenty to read!
I just want very interested during this one. However, having now read the next one, I highly anticipate the third book. The first book may not be great but the story really takes off during book 2.
From beginning to end it was an adventure Only bits I didn't like was how upon realizing his mom and sister death, Han only had a brief grieving. the ending was a bit too sudden. He finds out about his real lineage and then off to learn to control his power... Hey your mom and sister just died ...
