#BookedInTime Tudor England January 2025
@cuilin @dabbe

I have mixed feelings about this month's selection. It's an extremely well researched novel, with some interesting details of Queen Elizabeth's rein. However, I felt it was too long and repetitive. They talked about how Elizabeth did not want to get married, and how she held off all her suitors, over and over again.

A fascinating work exploring the queens of Medieval England from Matilda of Flanders through to Elizabeth of York.

Very interesting! Dense, and I would have appreciated it more dipping in and out instead of reading it straight through. The best part though is the conclusion which examines the historical queens through the fictional lenses of Beowulf and Mallory‘s Arthurian saga. 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑

#Bookreport

Pretty nice week of finishing up some novels and starting ones that have been on hold for a while. I am almost halfway finished with Weyward so I will most likely finish it in a few days. I am looking forward to starting some epic poetry with the Aeneid and jumping back into Drizzt or witness for the dead, depending on my mood.

I never know how to rate nonfiction books. I'm hoping this isn't too outdated and accurate enough with the information that was available at the time.

This was really fascinating, overall. The author had written out some questionable opinions, however (I doubt people in the future would laugh at chemotherapy, but I do believe in the distant future there will be better ways to treat diseases and illnesses)

Doppoetry People really poisoned themselves with various concoctions, paints, and substances that they either ignored the negative effects of or were simply ignorant of the dangers of. 1w

David Mitchell writes exactly how he speaks 🤣 really enjoyed this for #doublespin in Dec - going over well trod territory but adding his own spin - def recommended for anyone interested in history

I mostly loved this. My beliefs include a) the British royal family are a bunch of colonizing shits hoarding wealth, b) ACAB, c) military service should not be glorified. It's not that this VERY sexy, funny, and romantic story about a royal bodyguard and a royal personal assistant is about those things, but they are in the background, not exactly condoned but neither are they questioned. Anyway, this couple is great, incredible chemistry!

It only took me a year to finish but I did enjoy it.
