MF, BC, LC, Award winning author Barbara O'Connor brings this New York Times bestselling middle-grade novel, chapter book, touching story of eleven-year-old Charlie Reese & her secret wish for the dog 🐕 of her dreams. A big hearted uncle & aunt, & a true-blue best friend learning the lesson of the true meaning of family in an unexpected way in the least likely of places.
This chapter book is great for literary circles and/or book clubs.
Another treasured story of friendship and family in unlikely places. Set in North Carolina with the sweetest characters. Book 29 #MGMarch #middlegrademarch
4/5 for this cute middle grade! This was a cute, moving book. I loved Charlie. She has a hard life and is dealing with it the best way she can. I also love all the characters in her community. Howard is a great character and best friend. Pineapple!
This was a really cute book for the younger audience. I enjoyed the fun story and the way the author shows young friendships and tough issues for kids. Definitely a must read for middle grade!
I think it‘s a good book but like it‘s one of those books I wouldn‘t want to read again kinda like the refugee book Xavier mentioned, I‘ve read that book aswell I would agree with that statement. In case you want to know, of course you do, anyways. It‘s about a girl who wants a ‘real family‘ she has one but her father in jail, and her mom is very sick. So she has to stay with her aunt and uncle. Not gonna spoil anymore ya could find out on your own
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A touching story of a girl and her dog. Charlie learns that love comes when you least expect it.

Lovely “coming home” book. Ideal for 4th-5th graders. No action or violence. Highlights include foster parents, southern living, VBS, and overcoming prejudices. This counts as my NC book. #readingusa2019
“You can‘t judge people for the mistakes they make. You judge them for how they fix those mistakes.”
This book tackles tough topics and opens the conversation about them while also showing kids how to get through times like such.
This book describes in great language hardships that many kids have to face. It also has a great theme of learning to be a friend and accepting change. Overall, a great book for kids when they‘re going through a tough time.
Sorry I was late, I didn‘t want to come. 😂 wish I was reading. Merry Christmas readers!!
A young girl from a broken home is sent to her aunt and uncle‘s in the country. She is tough and lonely but the people around her start to change her life for the better. And then there‘s the dog...a stray, just like her.... heartwarming and hopeful. A gentle reminder on how controlling one‘s temper and being kind can change one‘s circumstances. Feisty fun.
I‘m reading this with 4th grade students! Great characters, and a timeless story. How do we all fit into the world? What do you wish for?
Loved this book! Heartwarming, funny, well-written. A great book for grade 4 and older, especially for dog lovers. 💕
I‘m sitting here giving this book a giant hug. A precious #middlegrade story of friendship, family, and the power of wishes! Can‘t wait to recommend this to all of my students and everyone I see!
#24in48 update: nearing 20 hours of reading and just finished my eighth book! The end is near! 🎉🎉
@Lmstraubie I had to share this with you since I have you to thank.
A customer came into the bookstore today. She really wanted a book for her daughter for Christmas & was certain we wouldn‘t have it. Thanks to our #mgbuddyread I make sure this is always in stock. I love handselling it. The added bonus being it‘s also local interest since I‘m in NC.
The mom was THRILLED we had it & really happy I could speak so passionately about it. 🤓💙
Wish is a RF. It is about a young girl who gets sent to live with her aunt and uncle which she barely knows after her mom is arrested. She has one wish to find the family she has always wanted. She has many creative ways to wish, some I have heard of, others were new. She finds a stray dog and comes up with a creative way to catch it. The dog is her friend. This could be an IR or LC. #ucflae3414f17
I loved this story of a girl and her dog! #DogDays #AndItsAugust @RealLifeReading

This story...what can I say? It made me feel a lot of things. My heart goes out to Charlie and kids out in the world who are going through similar situations.
Thanks @Lmstraubie for choosing such a great book for the #mgbuddyread. It has been many years since I've read a middle grade book.
Question #8
Okay, so there are sooooo many more things I would have loved to discuss (her parents, the teacher, her relationship with Wishbone, her relationship with her uncle, the setting, her chances for making a wish...I could keep going), but alas it's to wrap it up.
What is one question you would ask Barbara O'Connor if you could?

Read this for our #mgbuddyread and it was amazing. Takes place in NC so I now have another book to recommend to customers for local reads.
Sweet, well-written and an engaging read. Nice pick @Lmstraubie
A little girl from a broken family considers herself a stray. She finds a stray dog that she is hoping to catch and make a part of her family. But who is her family? What really makes a family. Charlie learns that and more in Wish. I'm looking forward to discussing this next week with the #mgbuddyread group. ☺️
But I admit I felt a smile on my face and hope in my heart, 'cause maybe wishes really do come true. #mgbuddyread
