This was my 2nd Jenny Lawson book (I guess I'm reading them from newest to oldest) and I loved it just as much as 'Broken'. I love her humor and the way she talks about her mental and physical illnesses. The story behind the raccoon on the cover was especially funny 😆 She may not be everyone's cup of tea but I'm here for it and will read whatever she writes from now on 🦝

gossamerchild I love her so much :-) 1y

This was my bookclub's pick for the month and we all really enjoyed it. Jenny has such a weird, funny way of dealing with her mental health and sharing it with anyone who'll listen. I frequently laughed out loud at some of her antics. I especially enjoyed when she related some of her "fights" with her husband. Their relationship is one of a kind.

August Nonfiction #ReadingBracket2023 update
I managed to finish FOUR nonfiction books this month, which is a record for me! Furiously Happy was my favorite for sure. But Book of Pride won top spot just cause I got so much more from it and I still think about it.

2ond book completed for the #14Books14Weeks2023 challenge. Jenny Lawson and I don‘t share the same sense of humor, unfortunately. So I didn‘t love this book like I expected to. I do appreciate her struggles with mental health and usually liked those parts best. The book is random anecdotes and essays about her life.

merelybookish I used to read her blog some back in the day and enjoyed the occasional essay AND I've never wanted to read her books. I can imagine her humour becomes grating. 2y
Ruthiella @merelybookish I think her humor would have worked better for me too in smaller doses. 2y

4✨This book honestly has been brightening my day for the past couple of days. We all struggle, some more than others, and Jenny Lawson puts those struggles of hers in a comedic way. Some of the situations and thoughts that come to her during them at cringey, but other times it‘s is just pure comedy gold. I‘m glad she put herself out there so it can help others. #Roll100 (April) @PuddleJumper

I adored this book. I highly recommend the audiobook, as I feel it adds nuance to her particular kind of humor. I own the physical book and enjoyed going through and looking at the pictures after I'd listened to a particular part or highlighting things that struck a chord. The way she describes mental illness is spot on and the way she uses humor to deal with it is very relatable. Definitely will listen to her other books.

I woke up with horrible anxiety this morning but I was listening to this part of the book on my way to work and ended up laughing my ass off. The nurse's name is Latoya, not Labya. 🤣🤣

I‘m in love with this book, I feel very seen. I love it so much I bought a copy for my best friend and I wasn‘t even 20 pages in. This is how my best friend and I deal with our illnesses, and trauma, through humor. So this is perfect for us!!

Linsy Ditto!!! This was my first of Lawson's and I've been a devotee ever since. Before her, I never felt like anyone understood, or like I knew how to articulate my mental ilnesses. I'm so glad you flund her!!! 2y

Read this not long after a family member was diagnosed with bipolar after a series of painful events, and it really helped me deal with it all and gain perspective. Also opened my eyes to some of my personal struggles and the possible sources. Open discussion of mental health needs to continue to remove the "taboo" stigma. And a humorous outlook doesn't hurt.

Most people seem to find this laugh-out-loud funny. I didn‘t . I felt like she was trying too hard. I get that there are serious undertones here and I respect that Lawson was trying to balance the seriousness with the humor, but it didn‘t work for me. Maybe wrong place, wrong time for me. 🤷🏼‍♀️

LiteraryinPA You know, I was one of the people who found this funny when I read it 5 or 6 years ago, but the zeitgeist has definitely changed since then. Some of the topics might not have aged well. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2y

A fuckin' MASTERPIECE! The time spent reading this book was a combination of whispering 'WTF' while chuckling, laughing so hard I had to catch my breath, and ruminating on a perspective that I honestly should have been looking into long before now. Jenny Lawson lives with mental and physical illness while being a hilarious and insightful writer, and generally awesome, and I will be reading ALL of her books, soonest. #memoir

Having just spent part of the day mending by hand sewing, I can confirm: "Needles find you." From a hilarious memoir recounting thoughts and experiences of a woman dealing with mental illness, that I think has the potential to gross me out with bizarre musings or break my heart with raw honesty as well as make me laugh too loud too late at night. We'll see when I'm done! ???

I laughed out loud while reading this book.I also read portions to my husband. This author does a great job of turning what many consider a negative situation into a positive. She‘s talented, and we are lucky enough to benefit from it.I am really hoping that Jenny Lawson visits one of the bookstores in my area.I‘d love more than anything to meet her.If you‘ve struggled with mental health issues,or even if you haven‘t,you should read this book!

This book is quirky, funny and poignant about the mental illness with which the author deals. It's odd and sometimes I wondered what I was listening to, but then it moves on to a chapter about what she actual deals with in a way that is understandable and sensitive. I listened to this on audio which was great because the author read it with her own great emphasis that made it entertaining. I'm glad I listened to it. #litsyAtoZ for “L“
