Day 16. Dancing

Per Goodreads: Black Swan meets Pretty Little Liars in this soapy, drama packed novel featuring diverse characters who will do anything to be the prima at their elite ballet school.
Any ballet themed book reccomendations?
when i checked this out from the library i did not know there was a sequel. i will not be reading said sequel. it‘s just too young for me, which i should have guessed it would be
I would love to say that ballet isn‘t this toxic but I would be fibbing to a certain degree. This is the story of Gigi, Bette, and June and it explores the competitiveness found within the ballet world. Backstabbing, eating disorders it‘s all here. So be mindful if any of this is a trigger. I look forward to the next book in this series.
A twisting, twirling leap into the betrayals of professional ballet.
📚
At the American Ballet Company, onstage beauty comes at the cost of backstage ugliness. No more pretty pointe shoes!
📚
This is a tale of jealousy & sabotage. Gigi, Bette, & June navigate relationship & health problems as the story moves through unpredictable betrayals. “The Sugar Plum Fairy has farthest to fall.“
📚
Have you read Tiny Pretty Things? What did you think?
4-7-21: My 35th finished book of 2021! I wanted to like this so much more than I did but it just drove me nuts how hateful and insecure all the characters were. NYC at the American Ballet Conservatory. The story follows Gigi, Bette and June, ballet dancers trying to win the parts that will make them prima ballerinas. Along the way there is cut throat antics to reach the top. Everyone wants to be a star and no one is safe. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📖#️⃣3️⃣5️⃣
This just wasn't for me. It's well-set-up, so I can see where readers would enjoy it if this is what they are in the mood for, but for me personally, the last thing I want to read about right now is toxic relationships and backstabbing.
I‘ve been watching the new show on Netflix.
I haven‘t read this book so I am wondering if anyone can tell me how old the characters are in the book?
I wanted to read this before the Netflix adaptation premieres next month, but I wasn't entirely sure I was going to like it since I don't like ballet. However, I really enjoyed it. This book was the perfect mix of diversity, true emotion, and catty girl drama. It was such a fun read. Exactly the not so serious book I needed right now. I'm really looking forward to the show, and I asked for someone to buy me the sequel for Christmas.
4⭐️- this is a beautifully written heart wrenching story. I adored this book. Personally Junes perspective was my favourite you could feel her pain and confusion and loneliness. I loved the diversity of the characters and the touches on issues like racism eating disorders and depression- subjects that were addressed so naturally and beautifully in the story.
Currently reading this so far love it but I am a little lost it took me a second to remember who was who but I love the diverse cast of characters for some reason i had no idea it had POC characters and Asian characters it was a happy surprise Ive been trying to expand my reading to LGBTQ stories and POC stories so can‘t wait to really get into this
Dramarama! This YA novel follows 3 students at an elite NYC ballet conservatory as they vy for top roles and a spot in the professional company. New girl Gigi, queen bee Bette and outsider June are all hiding secrets as they try to land solos (and maybe undermine the competition). Loved the diverse characters, def reading the sequel. Hoping for more insight into the secondary characters' motivation, especially Will and Eleanor!
This book reminded me a lot of the movie Center Stage which I love! This book sucked me in. Backstabbing ballerinas who will do whatever it takes to get what they want. Netflix is making a series out of this book and I hope I don‘t have to wait long for it to come out. On to the sequel!
Yes yes yes to this delightful YA set in the world of competitive ballet. Like Center Stage + Black Swan + Pretty Little Liars. Bitchiness, backstabbing, romance. And lots of unsolved mysteries, so I look forward to the sequel!
I don‘t read a lot of YA but this made me think I should read more! I was looking for books featuring eating disorders written by women of colour and this popped up online so I took a chance. I loved the characters, got completely immersed in the ballet world, it was intense but not quite melodramatic which I loved. The romance subplots didn‘t even annoy me (which they often do in YA), I can‘t wait to read the sequel so it‘s a firm pick
It took a few chapters to feel like I was in the story (probably because I listened to the audiobook) but then I just wanted to keep listening! Getting different points of view, especially from two of the “mean girls” helped them to seem more like real people, and not just one dimensional villains. (Not that it made the terrible things they did okay!) I‘m not usually into drama-filled stories, but I‘m definitely looking forward to book 2!
Once I started digging into this book, it became impossible to put down. The authors created amazing characters who are both awful & incredibly sympathetic. The suspense builds & builds until the reader is practically itchy w/anticipation of the next terrible thing to happen. And I loved how it still surprised me into gasping when it happened. Honestly, this book would've been perfect for live-tweeting. I finished it & immediately began the next.
A great ya. Ballet school and the beautiful and cruel kids who are fighting for a chance to shine. Sort of like center stage meets gossip girl.
“Black Swan meets Pretty Little Liars in this soapy, drama-packed novel featuring diverse characters who will do anything to be the prima at their elite ballet school.”
Too much mean-girl drama with no resolution to make the end worthwhile. I‘ll read the next book to get it off #MountTBR, but when it comes to cutthroat dancers, I enjoyed The Walls Around Us more.
Book 3 of #24b4Monday finished.

Ballet, secrets, and a whole lot of drama.
Such a fun read.
My 4th read for Contemporary-A-Thon. 438 pages. 4⭐ Fun, soap opera of a book!
Still home sick. Headache is mostly gone so I‘m all set for a day of reading. If only the neighbours renovations were not so power tool inclusive 🙃🙃🙃
This was the perfect book to get me out of my grey February book slump. These ballerinas are both beautiful and terrifying, with secrets and scandals galore. ❤️❤️❤️
Teenage ballerinas fighting to get the best parts. There's drama, back stabbing, injuries, and a while lot of tulle.
As someone who has absolutely no grace or dancing abilities I was totally enthralled. Any recommendations for other good ballet books?
While this book was a major page turner and I am a sucker for drama I personally struggled with the amount of girl/girl hatred and jealousy. I understand that it is clearly a major part of the competitiveness of ballet but it was not always fun to read. Still love the complex and (very) flawed characters.
This was the perfect book the “casually” read on my phone when I couldn‘t have a physical book on me.
A book about dance for#letsdance! #septembowie
Getting in some morning reading before work. This book is such a nice change of pace--I am loving all the drama!
I read Astonish Me by Maggie Shipstead last year and now I have a thing for ballet books. I hope this is as catty as it seems. #guiltypleaure #bedtimereading #balletbookS
I loved Centerstage and I expected this book to shed the same kind of light on drama and ballet! It does but so much more. It focuses on three different ballerinas, with three completely different upbringings and how competition really does bring out the worst in some people! Plenty of drama with a constantly moving plot, I breezed through this novel!
I'm taking a quick momcation and am near a beach, with my friend visiting her parents and they have this amazing sun room which is perfect for reading! I'm in a happy place right now.
teenagers are evil. ballerinas are evil for sure. couldn't put this one down. i enjoyed this book very much. go read it. 👯
Oohh yes! I started this today and so far it is juicy! Something happened, more is happening, drama, and ballet, ballet, ballet! I'm so here for this today! I needed something juicy to bite into and this seems to be it!
New in this week, plus the last bits of my #beachinbookswap package 📦
Exciiiiiiited for this, @jessreadsbooks has lent this to me, describing it as "gossip girl and centre stage in one" which I ?? am?? here?? for??
