The excellent Penn Cage Series by GregIles which incorporates the #NatchezBurning Trilogy. If you have not read it I can‘t recommend it highly enough. The series starts with the tagged book.

Until #AugustAuthors, I‘d never heard of this author, so I don‘t know anything about him or his works. This book, published in 1999, is the first in a series that I gather is quite good and popular.

I have always loved Greg Iles‘s acknowledgments! Such a great author!! 📚📚 I‘m a day early because I‘m in the middle of organized chaos and I needed a break!!! Happy Sunday friends!! 😘

I think he misspelled acknowledgement 🤣 or did I ? 🤷🏼♀️
I can definitely see why the Penn Cage series is popular, this was a really strong start! Maybe a smidge longer than it needed to be, but overall a really fascinating case. Not so much a "whodunnit" but more of a "how do I prove it" revolving around a cold case buried in the deep south, stoking major racial tension at the mere mention of it, and corrupt law enforcement who would rather let sleeping dogs lie. TW: the n word, though not gratuitous
I'm having surgery this week (don't worry, nothing serious and it's something I want) but I'll only have my Kindle on hand so I've been downloading new Kindle Unlimited and library books in preparation. These, amongst others. I know I won't have time to read them all but I'm hoping the options will help depending on what mood I'm in 😆
The first of the Penn Cage series!! Love this one!! 📚📚I found this signed copy at Goodwill!!

I LOVE this series. I am reading it a little out of order, as I already read the Natchez Burning trilogy (which technically is books 4-6, but you don‘t need to read the first three to be able to follow it). Penn Cage is a great protagonist. I love how this series involves so much history, particularly the racial and social climate of the South in the 60‘s. There are so many unpredictable twists in these books. Highly recommend. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Everything is done.... finally relaxing! Merry Christmas everyone! 🎄🎄🎄

Please let me know if any of you have read Greg Iles! What is s your favorite book with the character Penn Cage?
This is the first novel that Penn Cage is in. It‘s about a murder in Mississippi. A very good story that keeps the reader turning the pages.
Biscuits & Blues is a restaurant mention in The Quiet Game. It is a real place. I had to go eat there. I had crawfish and mushroom over a beignet . It may look a bit odd, but it was so tasty. It was on the starter portion of the menu. But, trust me, it was big enough for a whole lunch. #YumYumYum
Can‘t believe I‘m only reading this series now; excellent start. Fast paced, thrilling, enough twists to keep you wondering.
And he uses the South as it‘s own character.
One of my favorites by Greg Iles!! My book boyfriend is Penn Cage of course!! 💙 I love this cover!!!

Hey all! So I‘m going on vacation in a few weeks and obviously the first thing to pack is books. Thinking about taking one of these as my “beach thriller read” Any thoughts? Also definitely going to bring Song of Achilles but I think I‘ll need a third book too. Any #recommendations?
5/5 ❤️ Love the series before I knew it was a series! Such deep and solid reading! I loved this book!
So I didn‘t get to post this yesterday! Another #favoriteauthor #Authoryoulove 📚☺️ I found the first 4 books at Goodwill last week and two of them are signed copies!! My collection is almost complete 🤗

My afternoon read! Gripping! Love it!
Trying to figure out why I didn‘t finish this in December? 🧐 Very much enjoying this again. I‘m hooked on it!
Maybe some #JunkFoodForTheBrain will help me find the joy again. I hate #ReadingSlumps ... #GregIles #TheQuietGame
Starting a new series.... I‘m always on the hunt for new mystery series....
Been caught up with other books so, I‘m gonna pick this one up where I left it off! Everybody has said this is an amazing book so here goes!
On chapter 3 so far! I‘ve heard nothing but good things about this book, so I‘m excited about it!
Hitting it before it hits 90 degrees today. I forgot how good this book really is. #reread #audiowalking
Very enjoyable mystery/thriller. I'm trying to start reading some crime series other than just John Sandford. I didn't like this one quite as much as those by Tana French, but it was still pretty good. I will definitely be reading the next one!
I'm afraid I'm bailing on this one. Maybe Natchez Burning will be better. It's not that bad , but so little time, so many books, I need to move on. I just wasn't feeling this one.
The night is young. I feel I need to pick up the pace a bit after my last book. So I'm going for my first Greg Iles.
#startswithq #Maybookflowers love all of Greg Iles!
Oh man. I bought all of these and thank goodness. Now I have to read everything Greg Iles has ever written. It's amazing how a 600 page book can feel like it never ends, or in this case like it went too fast.
December was the first time I'd attempted to identify a tbr pile for the month (this was it!). As expected I did not keep to this. I read two of these and 13 others in December - a really good month for me 😀
My introduction to Greg Iles was my favourite.
The Penn Cage series never disappointments me. Action and mystery from the first page!!!! 5/5
My first Greg Iles, flat out action packed. I will be reading more 😀
Just started today 😀 I know there are a lot of other fans on here!
Back to this novel, I love Greg Iles and the other Penn Cage novels. He always starts the novels so excitedly and I get sucked in immediately!! Has anyone read this one? Or his other books? Recommendations??
The back of the book says it best! Great fast paced thriller. Can't wait to continue reading the series! Also, I have a character crush on Penn Cage 😳😍
