While part of the Peculiar universe, this collection of short stories can be read as a standalone. Newcomers to Peculiardom might not understand all the character references or some of the terms, but would still enjoy these quirky and strange stories. For those of you who have read the series, you‘ll recognize this as the folklore often referenced throughout the books. Each tale is surprisingly layered with meaning and moral. Quick and enjoyable!
A short, enjoyable read for those who enjoy the world of Miss Peregrine's peculiar children.
Never dull with kids and puppies!
#GratefulReads - Day Six - #ABookGiftedToYou I never receive books as gifts ☹️; I‘m always told ‘I don‘t know what you like‘ or ‘you might have already read it‘. I have wish lists on Litsy, Goodreads and a public Amazon one - all cunningly disguised with my actual name!! This is the one book I have had as a gift (I had to ask for it).
This is set in the same world as Ms. Peregrine‘s Home for Peculiar Children. However, you don‘t need to have read that series to enjoy these fairy tales (Magical/Mythic creatures are just called Peculiars). The stories are accompanied by stunning black and white illustrations.
#scarathlon #TeamStoker (theme - monsters)
I‘m enjoying these fairytale like stories, as well as the black and white illustrations.

When you swear to yourself that you will buy no more books 📚 this month, but they just jump into your cart 🤥.

This is a great collection of short stories which I enjoyed immensely. Intriguing, deliciously dark, and..yes, peculiar! I love the humour, the striking illustrations, and the message that each story carries. My favourites are The Splendid Cannibals (gruesome), The Woman Who Befriended Ghosts (strange but lovely), The Girl Who Could Tame Nightmares (sinister), The Locust (unsettling).

I really enjoy collections of short stories relating to a series like "Tales of the peculiar". Have any of you read this? The cover is amazing too!
Very much enjoyed this book of Peculiar fairy tales. The tales are enjoyable, giving both a wider world view of their experiences along with lessons learned (hint: don‘t reveal you are Peculiar) and the artwork is GORGEOUS - not photos like the novels but amazing black and white drawings/etchings. These stories don‘t fit in a specific place within the series so pick it up anytime you like! You won‘t regret it.
7.25.19: A nice complement to the series! I enjoyed that the stories were diverse and came from all over. I have a few favorites, but all the stories were good!
7.24.19: I thought I had finished the series after I read the third book, but it turns out there's this prequel, a fourth book, and a fifth one on the way🙈 I highly recommend the series if you haven't read it yet. It's phenomenal!!
A simply gorgeous book. I love this author and this book is amazing x
I came on to this book very recently. And the synopsis really intrigued me. The stories are really fun to read, sometimes predictable and sometimes not. I finished the book in two seatings, specifically speaking in a day. It has some very simpler writing and really interesting stories. Do read it.
4.3/5🌟

Excited to get my hands on book 4! For now this collection shall tie me over.
I took a class in folklore two semesters ago at UC Berkeley so I'm even more excited to read this!
I forgot just how much I adored Ransom Riggs and his whole “Peculiar” world! This book is set up in a way where it‘s meant to be a book of folktales, fables, & myths meant to be read to Peculiar children. Just delightful writing! Each story was a complete jem ....some creepy, some sad, some funny. It was a real “comfort” read for me.
I‘m loving the illustrations in this book! Makes me wish I picked up the print copy rather than purchasing it on my Kindle.
I think I may have enjoyed this collection of Peculiar lore more than I enjoyed the second and third books of the #PeculiarChildren trilogy. (I‘m still not over Riggs making his protagonist Jewish then failing to accurately reference it. We don‘t have ministers!!! We have rabbis!!!! How did no one catch that error????)
Audiobook is a great format for this collection. Simon Callow is wonderful!

Anyone else excited for the fourth Peculiar book coming out next week?!
Snagged this while out today 😍 love the cover work!

It‘s hot and humid and the exact wrong weather for an #audiowalk.... so of course I went for one anyway.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ?? #peculiarchildren
Beautiful hardback edition, with lovely artwork at the start of each short story. The tales themselves were fun and interesting to read, although I found the writing a bit lacking compared to the original series. The creepy tale The Girl Who Could Tale Nightmares was definitely my favorite of the bunch.
Finished my thriller, next up this! Lovely thrift store find. $2! I think I‘ll be getting a lot of reading done on this very rainy 4th of July!
I was NOT a fan in the beginning. After the first few stories, it hits a stride. The last few are pretty cute. Not great, but cute.
I cannot wait for the next Ransom Riggs to come out later this year. I can't say enough how gracious they both were!
Ordered some books from Thriftbooks and I got a signed copy!!!! #ransomriggs #ilovehisbooks #jackpot
I haven‘t actually read the Miss Peregrine books, so I have a feeling these stories would have meant more to a reader who already had an emotional attachment to this world. While the footnotes occasionally felt overly-precious, the stories themselves were compelling. Not a slam-dunk for me, but good enough that I‘m glad I read it.
I absolutely love that this book came with a bookplate already printed inside. What a fabulous idea!
This is an anthology of 10 peculiar folklore, annotated by Millard Nullings, ward of Miss Peregrine; a time before Miss Peregrine gave the peculiar children a home. An intriguing and engaging read, and definitely recommended to all peculiar fans. .

I‘m pretty sure there are some peculiar characters in these peculiar tales. #tbr

This was adorable. Just the book I needed to dip in and out of over a hectic term! Links in gorgeously to the trilogy but the stories are definitely enough to stand on their own too.
This collection of tales is completely delightful in true fairy tale style. It has essentially nothing to do with the trilogy and stands alone quite nicely. The audiobook narrator comes across as a kindly British uncle, thus enhancing the experience. I definitely recommend this one.
Reading playlist. I love listening to film soundtracks when I‘m reading. Headphones in, no distractions, other than the odd sing along.
Does anyone else have a reading playlist?

This was wonderful, and not at all halted like collections of stories can sometimes be. I wish this series wasn't over. The illustrations are incredible!
I kind of want to read that story backward now, while simultaneously not wanting to- you just never know.
Emergency mid-term get me out of this reading slump book haul. Thinking of saving Rowell until that Christmas/new year gap.
So question is - which one next?!
