Book of the week... #maryalicemonroe #bookworm
I love going on vacation and finding books by local artists! I discovered this book and author while visiting Coastal Discovery Museum in Hilton Head. This is a great anytime read when you just need to sit back and get lost in another‘s world. The story describes the beauty of the low country and the beautiful creatures that inhabit the area. The lives of three very different sisters are brought together for one last summer on Sullivan‘s Island.
1/. Favorite summer fruit: watermelon
2/: Favorite book set in summer: The Summer Girls by Mary Alice Monroe
3/: I saw some dolphins at Folly Beach but I barely remember them because my son (who couldn‘t swim) ran in the ocean after them. I ran after him, and discovered I‘d run into a clam bed. My son managed to not be hurt, but my feet were all torn up and were painful for some time. I have a history of getting hurt at Folly.

Meh. I was just expecting a basic beach read. And that‘s what this is, it just felt extremely generic and honestly kind of mediocre to me. Not much of a plot to speak of, and there were some things that, as a feminist, irked me a bit. It was just okay. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I started listening to this one on Audible. So far my main impression is that not all authors should read their own books. She‘s reading this in a saccharine tone of voice, as if she‘s reading to a group of small children. It‘s a little grating. 😐
In the summer girls come
And summer girls go
Some are worthwhile
And some are so-so🎶

I love book 1, like book 2 and honestly suffer through book 3. Shame she couldn't have put the thought and effort into 2 and 3 (especially 3) that she did into 1. I know they're supposed to be easy beach reads but, come on. I won't say any more so I don't have to set a spoiler alert. 🙄
1/ red
2/ both — I alternate reading with swimming.
3/ stuffy, hot, and rainy
4/ lemonade
5/ swimming with brothers and sister

In the midst if winter and snow, I enjoy reading books set in the beaches of the sun filled south. Fills me with warmth, and a reminder that spring &summer do come to New England.
The story of family is just want I needed this holiday season and a warm atmosphere for this cold snowy day.
This was my first Mary Alice Monroe book and I liked it. Some of it wax a little slow for me but I am going to pick up Summer Winds soon and continue on.
So I'm going to read this. It is also in a series but at least it's the first one. #usedbookstoreproblems
