Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two: The Official Playscript of the Original West End Production
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two: The Official Playscript of the Original West End Production: The Official Playscript of the Original West End Production | J.K. Rowling , John Tiffany, Jack Thorne
The official playscript of the original West End production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places. The playscript for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was originally released as a 'special rehearsal edition' alongside the opening of Jack Thorne's play in London's West End in summer 2016. Based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne, the play opened to rapturous reviews from theatregoers and critics alike, while the official playscript became an immediate global bestseller. This definitive and final playscript updates the 'special rehearsal edition' with the conclusive and final dialogue from the play, which has subtly changed since its rehearsals, as well as a conversation piece between director John Tiffany and writer Jack Thorne, who share stories and insights about reading playscripts. This edition also includes useful background information including the Potter family tree and a timeline of events from the Wizarding World prior to the beginning of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Ahh, it was wonderful being back in this world again! While the story lacked the depth of the novels, which stands to reason as it's a play, I did enjoy this follow-up with HP & crew as grownups, raising their own children. I also liked the use of the time-turner & enjoyed how the plot took the reader back in time & illustrated how changes in time affected the present-day world. Word of advice, read before you see the play! 4/5⭐️

I didn‘t want to like this book considering the hateful thoughts of one of the authors. But it was received in a book swap from a friend, so I read it. Did we need another HP story, probably not, but we have one. I love this universe and it‘s characters and I‘m a sucker for alternate realities. (It was also nice to get a bit of redemption for Draco Malfoy). So here we are.

I finally saw Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on stage in May (originally bought tix in 2019 but Covid delayed it for years) and it was INCREDIBLE, especially the way the magical elements were conveyed. I‘m glad I saw it before I read it. It probably would‘ve been difficult to follow the text if I didn‘t already have a visual in my head. I felt like I could hear the characters — particularly adorable Scorpius — as I was reading. #teachersoflitsy

Play format so I flew through this within a day. Was nice to read about familiar and beloved characters from my childhood. Only major complaint was that Ron after developing so much became one dimensional in this. He deserves better.

Saw Part I and II yesterday and it was AMAZING 🤩 The special effects were stunning and I don't even want to know how it was all done. If you get a chance to see this, do it! I actually can't put into words just how good it was...the moving stair cases, the magic, the Dementors...the cast were outstanding 👏👏👏

janeycanuck I have tickets for it in Toronto this June and they‘ve made it into only one show. I‘m undecided if I‘m disappointed it‘s being pared down or if I‘m relieved it will be shorter. 3y

Quick, easy read because it is a script. I enjoyed knowing where the main characters ended up and I love that a Potter and a Malfoy became friends, but some of the dialogue was odd and it left me wanting more information.

A candle in my window for The Shrieking Shack's return, so I can hear their reaction to the drill hands trolley witch.

(The Shrieking Shack is truly an achievement and I recommend it highly and yeah, I'm sad about their announced hiatus. Please don't be the end!)

It's good. If you are obsessed with Harry Potter like me I'd definitely read it. Not much is about Hogwarts and it is a screenplay so keep that in mind. If your don't love HP I don't think it's necessary but it's good. It'll only make sense if you have read HP though.

This was different from what I remember the 1st time I read this years ago. I didnt find it as enjoyable this time. A lot of the dialogue felt stilted & in some cases characters say things that doesn‘t sound like them. I wish Harry Potter had been left finished with Deathly Hallows. Of course I would love 2 learn more about the HP universe years later, but not in the form of a story that felt forced. I would still see the production bc it‘s HP

thegirlwiththelibrarybag It‘s much better preformed- but I agree, a lot of it is underwhelming and seems a betrayal of the characters we know. 4y
Scochrane26 I don‘t consider this part of the canon. I would go see the play though. 4y
erinreads Definitely agree with @thegirlwiththelibrarybag. I wasn‘t into this at all until seeing the play live. 4y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Scochrane26, I don‘t either *except* even though she‘s not the main writer - she has to have been ok with what‘s as written... 4y

These two arrived today✨ I GOT THEM FOR FREE🤩 Story time: I first ordered HPATCC by accident and it was with reward points from a website. A month had passed and there was no update on the book‘s shipment. And I ordered from that site during the beginning of the pandemic and all was good. After sending an email, they reply saying they‘ll refund my reward points and could keep it if it arrived! The other was with a $5 Amazon gift card!

Act One, Scene One
King‘s Cross

A busy and crowded station. Full of people trying to go somewhere. Amongst the hustle and bustle, two large cages rattle on top of two laden trolleys. They‘re being pushed by two boys, James Potter and Albus Potter, their mother, Ginny, follows after. A thirty-seven-year-old man, Harry, has his daughter, Lily, on his shoulders.

...not exactly just one line lol.

This is like eating Mc.Donalds.. parrappappapa I‘m loving‘ it! It feels like home, it‘s familiar and it‘s remembering younger days and MAGIC! 🧙‍♀️🧚‍♀️

BGam Goosebumps whenever I revisited the past with Albus and Scorpius. Really, if one comes to think of it, this book answers all the questions to “ WHAT IF VOLDEMORT WAS STILL ALIVE N KICKIN‘?” What if Cedric didn‘t die, what if Ron was married to Parvati and their child‘s name was Panju, hilarious 😆. There was so much of going in the past that it got very exciting n engrossing. Now I want to re-read the series. Time to use the TIME TURNER! (edited) 5y

Finally read this play and was very underwhelmed and unimpressed. It all felt very hasty, pointless, and lacking in character development. I did like some aspects of it, primarily the time traveling, but it‘s really not good. Honestly feels like a cash grab trading on a famous name. #catsoflitsy #kittensoflitsy #petsoflitsy #klausthekitten

#wintergames #the filthy animals #24B42020 Spent a great “day” reading these three from my TBR list. I didn‘t really enjoy “An Anonymous Girl” - the story didn‘t capture me and the characters fell flat. I adored Alice in Wonderland, illustrated by Salvador Dali (simply stunning.) The Cursed Child was great and I‘m seeing the stage play in January so I wanted to re-read the book! What a great way to close out 2019!

Today was one of those very fantastic days, where real life is paused and a new, magical world awaits. We spent the majority of our day in a theater, watching Part I and Part II of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and it was exceptional. The stage design, production, and illusions were breathtaking. The cast disappeared, transformed, and flew, and the time-travel effects were a treat.
