On this day 8 years ago, I met the Ignatius J. Reilly statue in front of the former DH Holmes department store in New Orleans. Our first, and somehow only, trip to this very hot and humid, incredible city. I want to go back! 🎷📿

I own the most copies of Dunces. Frankenstein and The Catcher in the Rye are close, though! #SundayFunday

1. As much basic home and auto maintenance as possible- how to change a tire, how to change oil, how to unclog a drain, how to change a doorknob, etc. I think some schools do teach a little of this, but the more the better.
2. Ignatius J. Reilly lacks pretty much every life skill. 😄

I‘m going to give this a try.

Thanks for the tags, @TheSpineView and @The_Penniless_Author
1. Ever since watching the original FRIDAY THE 13TH back in 1980, I always have to check under my bed before going to sleep. 😱
2. The tagged one. So quirky, I couldn't even finish it. #hailthebail
Consider yourself tagged, everybody! 🧡🖤💜
does anyone know the backstory of this guy and this book? This was the only book he wrote, sadly he committed suicide. When his mom was cleaning out his room she found the manuscript of this book. She presented to publishers and no one wanted to run with it. But mom took it to one publisher and said- “if there‘s one punctuation or grammar error, you don‘t have to put this book out, but if there isn‘t then you do.” He took the bet. And here we are.
Twenty-five years ago I tried to read Confederacy of Dunces and bounced off it. Still found this (two-year-old) article really worth my time.
“Ignatius J. Reilly—the godfather of the Internet troll, the Abraham of neckbeards, the 4chan edgelord to rule them all—was no anachronism. He was a prediction.“

This book was recommended by a friend. I'm glad I decided to read it. Truly funny and well written. The characters were believable. If you want a good laugh read this book.
I took a peek at the Friends of the Library book sale today and came away with two books that are on my tbr for just fifty cents each.
I‘ve only ever heard people love this or they hate it. I must say I fall into the latter group. I found the MC annoying and pretentious and I wanted to slap the sh*t out of him. The supporting characters weren‘t any better. There was no story. I finished the book.
I couldn‘t see the brilliance that some people see in this book.
Weird, quirky, laughable moments. Definitely plotless but still enjoyable.

This is really entertaining. The protagonist, Ignatius Reilly, is a hilariously vividly described grotesque, and without spoilers it's really enjoyable watching him get what he deserves.

I‘m sure there was something here that everyone else understood and appreciated that I didn‘t but I just… didn‘t. The satire I always just noticed and went ‘oh that‘s a thing he did‘ but it was never funny or thought provoking. This just felt like an annoying man doing one thing after another.
Funny, entertaining. Maybe it's a generational thing or just my inability to appreciate the artistry of the humor, but the book is sort of billed as this hilarious uproarious comedy. I didn't experience that the way I would with a stand-up comedian or comedy movie. I wasn't reading & laughing hysterically at any point. The back story, if true, about the author & how this manuscript came to be published is truly remarkable.
Just released our Confederacy of Dunces episode! I absolutely love the book, Peter was a little more hesitant to enjoy it, but he's kinda like that. It's a good episode though, full of thought-provoking ideas and tasteful discussions of theology and geometry

Morning light photo as I finish this #bookspin book. Glad to have it off my TBR. I wish this was something I had tackled in college. The writing, satire and characters are worth discussing, and over analyzing. Toole was obviously an intellectual writer. But for a non academic read it is a bit of a drag. The characters are annoying with no redeeming qualities or scenes. The plot fell flat for me. I overall did not enjoy it.

Ignatius is the embodiment of #Fatuous in this wonderfully written, laugh-out-loud classic.
Found this at a used book store! Already own a copy but couldn't resist picking up this one because of the cool cover.
Started on this beautiful thing! Spent two hours on this dude and the time flew. Great start and left off at page 74.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This brilliant satire laced with absurd, eccentric, characters remains a favorite. Third time through and still one of the funniest stories I‘ve ever read. Looking forward to experiencing New Orleans again when the world isn‘t so bonkers. But for now, please enjoy my Ignatius shirt. 😂🌭
1. The Norton Anthology of World Literature, a gift from my wife.
2. The Weird Sisters by Eleanor Brown. Read it for a book club. Didn‘t expect anything but loved it.
3. The tagged book. Heard great things about it and I just couldn‘t get into it.
Thanks, @Eggs , for the tag.

1. Living in New Orleans, we see famous people a bit. My husband has a bike shop a lot of people come to him when they‘re in town. Most memorably, one day I was at the shop and we were taking to Jason Lee and Tim Robins at the same time. Later we were out at a store and Jason Lee came up to us to say Hi! I almost fainted.
2. The weekend coming up and relaxation 🤗

Ignatius p reilly is a wonderful character, who in his bizarre bright green hunting hat, large moustache + girth, an intellectual berating everything + everyone in new orleans +beyond, causes havoc as he takes a job in levy pants then as hot dog salesman. Gloriously comic and anarchic i loved this book which was both funny, satirical, and brilliant. And what a back story.
7/8 - drama
I am not sure if I‘ve come across a more dramatic character than Ignatious Reilly.

The New York Public Library is doing a book of the day email. I‘ve added a few more to my TBR list because of it 😬, but then today‘s came up and it‘s a winner that I‘ve read!
Just couldn‘t bring myself to dig into my pandemic books. Closed my massage business for the duration (how long, I don‘t really know). So sad, but it didn‘t feel safe to me. So ... I‘m going to see if this #makesmeLOL for the #booked2020 prompt. Hoping so! And a glass of Viking Grog (really, that‘s what it‘s called) can‘t hurt.

Going to try this as my new exercise read. Reading on the elliptical is a good way for me to add extra books to my reading that I wouldn‘t usually get around to, and of course a huge motivation to actually do the exercise. 😉
We went to where they make Marci Gras floats today! And then to the Southern food and beverage museum. A few literary references from my gazillion pics.
I‘m def reading Confederacy of Dunces when I get home! And our Wild Thing. The bear reminded me of Iorek Byrnison from His Dark Materials. In the lower right, at first I thought it was Cthulhu but might be Davy Jones. 🤷🏼♀️ Anywhere, they‘re neat, right?
My current #foliosociety collection. Small but mighty. I had to dust them and hold them in order to get ready for my new ones to arrive. 🤣
Oh my god!
I laughed a lot, but I felt bad for laughing, even though I think it was supposed to be funny. I realize that makes no sense.
These characters are so messed up and dysfunctional, and I‘m pretty sure I have met guys like Ignatius. 😬
I can‘t say I didn‘t enjoy it, but maybe I‘m missing the genius here. The audio narration was excellent.

@HotdogZanzabaar and I went with literary costumes this year. I was the hotdog to his Ignatius.
