Written as a Novel in Verse, it is the story of Sophie Scholl, one of the leaders of the White Rose youth resistance groups who spread information against Hitler and his regime. There are not many books available about Sophie, and only recently some have been writtwn for the YA audience. I have never read anything like this, and I highly recommend it!
Well done YA novel in verse on the resistance efforts of Sophie Scholl, her brother, & their friends. Definitely sparked my interest to learn more about them. #BookSpin
Loved it! A very short read for me, since it was told through poetry. I‘d heard about Sophie Scholl before in Good Night Stories For Rebel Girls, and I loved how this book went into her story much deeper than the Good Night Stories did. 5⭐️
I don‘t think novels in verse are for me. I couldn‘t get into this and it may have been largely because the formatting annoyed me.
I enjoyed this book about White Rose, a German student resistance group during WWII, but I wish I would have waited to read it in print. I sometimes had a hard time following the back and forth of the timeline while listening and missed seeing how this novel in verse actually looked on the page.

New Display! The 9th graders this year did a study unit on WW2 last year. So many today have come in looking for WW2 Fiction, and hopefully this will be an eye- catcher !
So glad you chose this one, Vanessa! @FantasyChick #lmpbc #groupx I didn‘t know much about Sophie‘s story and Kip Wilson wrote the hell out of it!
I thought I‘d slip into this book briefly on a mini break from Crow and I‘m almost done #lmpbc #groupx #underthedogwood

W.O.W. - what a book! Read it in one sitting. This story is riveting, engrossing and powerful. This is the first book that I have read written in prose and it was fantastic. I want to press this book into so many people's hands.
@DebbieGrillo - this would be a powerful book for high school students.
Getting my reading in today and found my first Easter egg: female character. This is also my next read for #575PMRChallenge #EasterExtravganza
It took me a bit to get used to the jumping back and forth in the timeline, but still a good read. #quarantinereads
The package arrived on Tuesday afternoon. “. I‘m just going to crack it open and get a feel for it.... before I post that it has arrived....“. next thing I knew it was done!
Great choice @FantasyChick #LPMBC. #teamcanada.
Are we all good with keeping the schedule #TeamCanada ? I m getting ready to ship (I know, I meant to do it a week ago.....it's my curse 🤷♀️) but wanted to check in and make sure everyone feels ok with continuing on?

3 hours. This took me 3 hours to read. Honestly, I was worried about the format of verse but after reading it....I can't imagine this written any other way. Powerful, horribly heartbreaking and inspiring. I really wish the world knew more about Sophie Scholl and the White Rose movement.
Everyone should read this book.
Can't wait to hear what you all think.

Home from work early. Haven't been feeling the best today so I've decided to spend my night curled in my blanket with my #LMPBC pick.
Been curious about this one for a while and can't wait to dive in

A couple of weeks ago, a booktuber I watch talked about Second Star Books and their amazing candles. I went on the site & discovered they used to do book boxes and had one from last year(discounted) of the book White Rose, which I really wanted to read. The book is about Sophie Scholl & the White Rose society in WW2 Germany and is written entirely in prose. The box has two books, a candle, a white Rose pin, a letter and a sticker(not pictured).
This book tells the story of Sophie Scholl and the White Rose, a young activist group who resisted the Nazis in Germany. It‘s told in verse, so it‘s a fairly quick read. I‘m excited that the story is out there. It‘s YA, but might be a little tricky to follow without background knowledge. It also jumps around in the sequence of events. Still though, could be a great introduction to this amazing group.
This book, which takes place in Nazi Germany, is written in verse. Some of the stanzas are hitting pretty close to home.
It‘s hard to think about Germany 🇩🇪 without thinking of Nazi Germany, and the extermination of Jews and those who helped them...

I‘ve been reading a lot of YA and middle grade lit gearing up for this school year. This is by far the best one I have read all summer! It‘s the true story of Sophie Scholl and the White Roses. It‘s written in verse, which I love and is an easy sell to my students. If you like reading about WWII or brave young women, check this out!

WW2 European underground resistance heroes operated despite great risks
I first learned of Sophie Scholl and The White Rose in my high school German class. Sophie and her brother, Hans, along with others fought the Nazis through distributing anti-Nazi leaflets at their university and beyond.
Wilson‘s novel in verse tells Sophie‘s story in verse, a heroic look at a young women, her brother and friends who spoke truth to power and stood for what they believed.
I might not be the best-behaved girl
I don't want to be the prettiest girl but
I'm most decidedly the smartest girl.
It's disappointing how few people know about what Sophie and the White Rose resistance did. I think wondering "how the hell did people let things get like that" is always something we'll ask. Just because you aren't the target, doesn't mean it's not your problem. We forget that until that evil suddenly sets its eyes on us. Basically: fuck Nazis, bigots & the state of Georgia, use your fucking voice and privilege to make a better world, vote
I was lucky enough to visit the memorial in Berlin for Sophie and Hans. I havent honestly seen anything written about them so im insanely excited but also nervous. I've never read anything written in verse!
Based on truth, this is the story of Sophie Scholl and her brother Hans, non-Jews who resisted the rule of Hitler and his atrocities. Beautifully told in verse. Well done, Kip Wilson
Breathtaking and heartbreaking, this novel in verse provides an intimate glimpse into life of Sophie Scholl, real-life Nazi resister who vowed to speak out against the injustices brought in by her country‘s leader.
Even though it says based on a true story I must have missed that when I started this book. I really enjoyed reading something that I never heard about but have been reading historic fiction and nonfiction for years.
This book is written in verse and it's about the White Rose group made up of German University Students who distributes pamphlets that speak out against Hitler's regime. The group were made up of 1 woman and the rest men.

Really enjoyed this one! It is written in verse and tells a story from WWII that I was only vaguely aware of before. Highly recommend!
A #womenshistoryreads first today - I've interviewed (many) novelists before, but never a verse novelist, and I'm fascinated by Kip Wilson's chosen format for her story of Sophie Scholl. Read up on this forthcoming novel on my blog at greermacallister.com/blog .
This is a retelling of Sophie Schloss‘s life in verse, coming out in April.
