Caught up on this one today from #plc a few months ago.
It took a bit of getting into but the second half was better than the first. I like Harley as a charachter and would happily read the next in the series - I‘d like to learn more about some of the side characters.

Had to bail on this one. I think it was mainly due to the narration in the audiobook. I may try back in the future with the physical book.

I feel like I could easily fall in love with a Wizard. I mean its not like it wold be far from just a guy you know? Also the added power/stuff might be fun. Especially if he uses some of these insights to keep me happy :)
I would love to be a Witch!!! All the powers! All of them! Just everything! Also want a familiar :)

My #3Books #IHated choices are not popular opinions. But Harley Merlin & Rules of Magic were BOTH so disappointing. I wanted to love them, but just couldn‘t even muster up some like. And My Husband‘s Wife was poorly executed, anti-climactic plot, and features untrue tropes about people on the Autism Spectrum. Anyone feel similarly about these books or love them & wanna chat?
I finished Harley Merlin. But it wasn't really “romance“ it had some “will they won't they“ moments but it never really got there. But its got a billion of books in the series so I can see where it goes there (also its YA so it won't be super graphic)
Beautiful Creatures? (I mean a caster falls in love) I also want to say we read another one about a witch who had a love interest but I can't think of the name.

So I can see where people had some issues with the wanna-be Harry Potter type vibes but... I enjoyed this one. It was a “fun” story

So witches aren‘t my super fav (I am more into vampires) but I loved that they had Quetzalcoatl as a character! (As being Hispanic and this being a huge Aztec god) anyway presently surprised 😮

I might have picked the wrong book for #ParanormalLoveCrew this month! It sounds super good but there are 21 books! I am not ready for that!!!
Here does nothing :)

I had heard quite a lot of negative views about this as when advertised it was being compared to Harry Potter. I am a huge HP fan so I know nothing is even going to compare and it‘s nothing like it. If you read it as it‘s own thing and don‘t compare it‘s a very good read. I throughly enjoyed it and can‘t wait to get stuck into the next one.
This was a fun read. Easy reading with a fun story. Magic and the main character is lots of fun.
So far this is pretty meh. I knew I should have run the other way when I heard it compared to Harry Potter.... because it is so far off that mark it isn‘t even funny.
Just got kindle unlimited again for the first time in years. I saw this book on an Instagram page that followed me and I knew I needed to read it. I‘m so excited to be out of my reading funk and putting my kindle to good use for the first time in a couple months.
I love Harry Potter, so hearing this book billed as “for fans of Harry Potter” scared me right from the start.See if this sounds familiar: orphan who doesn‘t know much about their parents finds out they have magical powers and goes to a school for magical people where they have to save the day. The writing is so clunky and awkward, my favorite example: “Her heart thudded like an obese butterfly.” JK Rowling this is not, unfortunately.
Entertaining, not particularly originally but engaging enough that I didn‘t mind. A 19 year old protagonist did make me 🙄 a couple of times (guess I‘m getting old) but I like the seeds that have been planted for the coming books - a dark family mystery and mysterious magical talents (really liked that her friends magical abilities are tied to their cultural heritages)
I read this. I‘ve actually managed to read the first five in some weird hope it would get better but I‘m not sure that it does. It‘s a Harry Potter rip-off in too many ways and I think that prevents it from being its own story and possibly bring good. It‘s on KU so there‘s a fair chance I‘ll finish the series.
Virtually every page had paragraphs of unnecessary exposition bogging it down. I also have to wonder whether the author‘s ever had a conversation with a real person. And for some reason there was a Potter-esque points system, but for adults at a governmental level...?
Still, I give credit for a sort-of-interesting magical system, magical society, and main problem. Overall, this would be a solid first draft for a high school B student.
It was either through Litsy or somewhere else that this was advertised as the Harry Potter for adults. While it‘s more YA than adult and comparing it to Harry Potter is a disservice to HP. However, I loved it and will continue reading the series, because I certainly need more series to start 🤦🏼♀️. The magical world that Forrest has built is fantastic and I finished this in a couple of days. Highly recommend!
You guys! I‘m doing a terrible job! Got a late start this morning and there is no way I‘m reaching #24in48. However, I‘m still gonna keep trucking and I‘ve been loving the reading I did get done. Hope y‘all are doing better than me on this #readathon! @24in48
Switching books for #24in48 while hoping in the bath because my body feels like it‘s falling apart.
I have every intention of finishing #DoughnutEconomics before the weekend is through. I just needed a break. @24in48

Oh this was so much fun to read!! It has Harry Potter vibes which I‘m always ready for! Harley is so independent and strong! I love a good strong female character to fall in love with! Now to convince my library to get the rest of the series
I‘ve only read the first of these (I‘m about 50 pages into book two), but I am enjoying the magical world that Forrest has created. Very thankful to my local library for fulfilling this purchase request for me!

Okay so this book popped up in my Facebook and is being advertised as the Harry Potter series for adults. Now I‘m intrigued because of course I can‘t pass up a new series like Harry Potter, but I‘m skeptical. Can anyone confirm this for me before I become invested?!?!
I really wanted to like this book, but 5 chapters in I couldn't bare it anymore. The author's voice is hard to read, choppy, and dull. I really had a tough time.
