Tea Time for the Traditionally Built
Tea Time for the Traditionally Built: More from the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency Series | Alexander McCall Smith
19 posts | 20 read | 10 to read
The 10th! instalment in this infinitely enjoyable series finds the ever-charming, ever-resourceful Mma Ramostwe helping people, and vans, with problems in their lives. Mma Ramotswes tiny white van has developed a disturbing noise. But having made numerous repairs to the van over the years, Mr J.L.B. Matekoni her estimable husband and mechanic nonpareil sells it without telling her and presents her with a new, characterless vehicle. So Mma Ramotswe sets out to recover the van. . . . In the meantime, the thoroughly unpleasant, yet glamorous, Violet Sephotho (who earned 50 percent, at most!, in the final examinations of the Botswana Secretarial College) gets herself a job at the Double Comfort Furniture Store. Why? The reason is obvious: to make a play for Mma Makutsis fianc, Mr Phuti Radiphuti. And a proprietor of a local football team has enlisted the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency to help explain their dreadful losing streak: surely someone is fixing the games it cant just be a case of unskilled players . . . This is a job for Charlie, ever-apprentice at the Speedy Motors, to sniff out the competence of the players, as an assistant detective. . . . From the Hardcover edition.

Book 10 in the No. 1 Ladies Detective Series (#SeriesLove2024) has Mma Ramotswe‘s precious tiny white van dying. As usual, this read was such a comfort. I enjoy spending time with these characters. And we finally learn the name of the second apprentice, Fanwell.

Lisette Lecat does a wonderful job narrating these books.

Andrew65 Love this series. Well done 👏👏👏 7mo

This was a reread for me, as I slowly make my way through the series again. If you have access to the audiobooks, I highly recommend going that way, as the narrator is delightful. In fact, when I read the print copies, in my head I hear Lissette Lecat‘s voice.

This one features a mystery about a football (soccer) team playing poorly, and jabs lots of fun at men for their obsessions with sports and cars.

@umbrellagirl I love this tea! The tins are great for craft projects after you've enjoyed all the tea! I live their Earl Grey with Cardamom, but the black currant looks amazing! #harneyteagiveaway

#puremorning #90sinJuly I can't think of a nicer way to start the day than sharing a steaming cup of bush tea with Mma Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi at the offices of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency.

We'll be at my mother-in-law's house all day tomorrow for UK Mother's Day so we celebrated my Mother's Day today.

I wanted to go to a cafe about an hour away from home called Libby's Tea Room. Because Libby.

I can picture some other "traditionally built" ladies joining me there for coffee and cake!

?☕️?☕️?☕️?☕️?☕️?☕️?

Lmstraubie Happy Mother's Day! 8y

Lovely paragraph that captures quite poignantly something that all of us must have felt at some time or the other.
