At one (of many) points when I laughed at this book, my husband said “uh-oh, you‘ve just read something either really funny or really relatable.” I read him the panel where Lucy runs out of a restaurant crying, having learned that they are not serving lunch. He proceeded to tell the story of the time we failed to get vegan donuts while I was pregnant, and I cried the whole way home. Needless to say, I found this book very relatable and well done!

My kid was having fun in the play area, so I took some time to wander the graphic novel section. I picked up a couple of books that I‘d been wanting to read and one I‘d never heard of. #libraryhaul

While Knisley is writing from an obvious feminist viewpoint, the research and little-known information about pregnancy and birth is fascinating and, in terms of many women‘s lack of education on these topics, troubling. It gets into the details of the whole process, so be aware going in. But if you‘re looking for an accessible starting place to learn more about these topics, definitely check this one out. #2023 #memoir

Oof! This book! So many feelings. Aspects of her fertility journey are similar to my own. It feels much less isolating to have proof in your hands that other people have been in similar shoes. There's a lot of humor, but also some history and facts around pregnancy and child birth. All interspersed with her own experiences.

The tagged book is my last prompt for #booked2020 #spring #ParentAndChildMemoir. When I read the description, I knew I had to read it. As someone with PCOS, fertility was such a struggle for me. I know this one will likely hit close to home.

I devoured this book in one day. Such a fantastic and brutally honest portrayal of pregnancy. I love her feminist lens that she uses to dissect so many of the misnomers associated with pregnancy and womanhood. Her drawings are amazing. Her storytelling is so funny and heartbreaking and just so real. I feel like I know this woman from reading so many of her graphic memoirs. Loved this book!

This was my first Lucy Knisley comic but it won‘t be my last. I loved her storytelling style as she shared her own journey to parenthood, which was at times sad, scary, hopeful, empowering, depressing, frustrating, affirming, and more. She intersperses chapters depicting the history of childbirth, medical research, myths versus truth, etc. I respect her sharing this very personal story with her readers, and now I want to read her other work.

Really enjoyed the book. Loved both Lucy‘s personal story and the pregnancy facts that she presented. I‘m one of the 5% who was born on my due date and my mom also had pre-eclampsia (dr caught it and put my mom on bed rest immediately) and I was an emergency c-section as well. As many other reviewers said, this book pretty depressing and terrifying, but it had a positive outcome in the end. It's important to have narratives about these types of things. As Knisley states, 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage, but it's considered taboo to talk about it.

This book is incredible but also scared the crap out of me? Knisley had a pretty brutal time with both pregnancy and birth: 2 miscarriages, all day nausea that lasted the whole first trimester, pre-eclampsia symptoms (which her doctor ignored), a c-section, and then full on eclampsia. I marvel at how she presents all of this extremely vulnerable material in such a matter-of-fact way. She even has her husband do the parts where she was unconscious!

Really enjoyable and fun, while also heartbreaking and educational. I‘m a big fan of Lucy‘s work, and am so glad I finally got to hear all about her journey to Pal. He‘s such a cute kid!

Another Lucy Knisley, but one that I was going to skip. That is, until I saw it in an article about graphic medicine. As a fan of #graphicnonfiction and a browser of my mother's medical encyclopedia during childhood, I gamely checked this out and was not disappointed.

I really enjoy Lucy Knisley‘s down-to earth, let‘s be real comics. And I love her simple birth plan: go home with a baby! This book will resonate with expecting moms who will appreciate knowing they‘re not alone in the worries, planning, and preparing only to find there‘s only so much you can plan for.

Second book of maternity leave. Made me appreciate the care of my midwives and doula all the more.

So after reading Relish, I just want to read all of Lucy Knisley's books. That being said, no I do not have any children nor want any babies. This book was definitely an eye opener and interesting throughout. What she had to go through to get pregnant and then the issues throughout her pregnancy. I'm just glad everything smoothed out in the end and she has an adorable baby boy. I would definitely recommend this book to any expectant mothers.

I love this memoir. It‘s my first by this author but I‘ll definitely be reading her backlist. It shows the reality of pregnancy (including miscarriage) in memoir and alternating sections of pregnancy facts that are well done.

I got this graphic novel / graphic memoir from my sister and read it on the plane back to Bmore. It is an insightful and honest look at pregnancy, women's bodies, miscarriages, motherhood and being a new parent.

I have read and enjoyed all of Lucy Knisley‘s graphic novels, but I found this one to be especially powerful. Part of it could be because I‘m a mom and could relate to certain aspects. But I think what really impacted me was how she intertwined the “politics of pregnancy” and the fact that still today, a woman‘s body is not really seen as her own,into her own pregnancy story. She shies away from nothing, and it is refreshing.

I foolishly picked up Kid Gloves at bedtime last night and stayed up until 1:17am to finish it. That good.

I met Lucy Knisley and she was everything I hoped she'd be, and I don't even care that this is a horrible picture, because she's so sweet and nerdy and everything! 😍😍😍

When it comes to horribly misinformed patriarchal ideas about women's bodies I think the wandering uterus might be my favorite historical example. It ranks right up there with women's bodies being able to shut down a rape pregnancy, and period huts.

It‘s another HOT HOT day (currently it‘s 102F/39C!!) and the heat has fried my brain and all I want to do is read a comic and eat some ice-cream - homemade Vietnamese coffee ice-cream and chocolate too. Also, I guess I didn‘t really need that chocolate chip cookie but my frazzled brain made me do it. Happy sweltering Tuesday everyone. Hope it‘s cooler where you are

Lunchtime comics: cornbread edition. I‘ve never been pregnant and I never want to be, but I‘m obsessed with this pregnancy/reproductive health memoir.

As someone who is almost 3 months into my first pregnancy this graphic novel both terrified me and was informative. I appreciate the author sharing her struggles with miscarriages and other health issues. I also liked how she listed common myths and misconceptions surrounding pregnancy.

I have been waiting SO LONG for this graphic novel to come out! Lucy has been a favourite of mine for so long & she announced this book during my own pregnancy. 🤰🏻

So many heart eyes for Lucy Knisley!! ? I have read almost all of her books, except a recent #graphicnovel about marriage. Gonna have to change that. She's just as fabulous as I remember, and having been pregnant not long ago myself, I related to this one more than any of her others. She's the best! Can't wait to read more about "Pal's" early life and her adventures in parenting.

This is a very, very good book. All of Knisley‘s work that I‘ve seen has been insightful, kind, and charming. Kid Gloves is too. The author takes a look into the history of medicine while telling the story of her own experience with child birth. ...It‘s wonderful, but a rough ride. Just, treat yourself well when reading this, because some parts are upsetting.

Knisley is such an inspiration, one of the best memoirists I have read. I love how much she puts herself out there with each Graphic Memoir. All she does is get better and better.

I feel like I have been waiting forever for this book to come out.

I‘ve loved following Knisley‘s career in her wonderful graphic memoirs. Since I‘m currently pregnant, this one was particularly perfect timing. She blends historical facts about pregnancy & childbirth with her own difficult experience. She‘s honest and open about her pain & doubt. Her birth experience might have been extreme, but her pregnancy and miscarriages are all too relatable. I loved it.

I abso-positively adore all of Lucy Knisley's books I've read, and this one was no exception. She makes pregnancy accessible and intersperses her personal journey with fascinating facts about the history of women's pregnancy health. This book would be amazing for someone who's given birth or is hoping to. The art is beautiful and emotional, I loved every moment and am so glad that Lucy survived her harrowing labor (those pages are AMAZING btw)

I went to the book launch party for Lucy Knisley‘s new book today. She made stickers and activity books! She was also doing quick sketch portraits for everyone. The line was long and after waiting for over an hour, I had to get my kids dinner so we left. Kind of bummed but I‘m happy to see her so well loved in Chicago. It was fun to see “Pal” in person. I wanted to take a picture of him reading with my kids but thought that might be creepy. 😆
