Final #roll100 read for Feb and also scored a line in #bookspinbingo recovering from surgery and not being able to do anything has its advantages as gives me lots of reading time!

Really enjoyed this, loved the prose, and there were a couple of twists that I did not see coming. Really interesting subject too.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! Hope you are on the mend!! 2mo

This one seems to have a lot of mixed reviews, but I loved it. It somehow sucked me in completely, despite some of the maybe farfetched events.

SqueakyChu I agree with you. I really liked this book when I read it (a long time ago!). 2mo

Not my favorite Patchett. Interesting premise, great ending, but a lot of meandering in the middle. Became a slog. But the ending was a worthy payoff. Recommended if you love Patchett‘s writing style already.

“Full of big ideas and marvellously peculiar characters.” Oh I did love this. It was quiet, gentle, crazy, peculiar, completely absorbing. I fell hard for all those characters and it broke my heart 🐍

LeeRHarry It‘s my favourite Ann Patchett - glad you enjoyed it. 😊 6mo
JillR I did, it felt very different from the other books of hers I‘ve read. I‘ll be starting Tom Lake soon. 6mo
Hooked_on_books This one and Tom Lake are my two favorites of hers so far, though I do have a few on her back list still to get to. 6mo
JillR @Hooked_on_books I‘ve got Tom Lake waiting to be read; I‘ve previously read and enjoyed The Dutch House and Commonwealth 6mo

Really enjoyed this unique plot with all its drug discovery research aspects. This is a journey amidst Amazon forest with all the wonders & dangers where both self discovery & drug discovery goes hand in hand. I like the characterisation & intricate details ( ignoring some science facts, as it is fiction) This is my first 5 star read of the year 🥰😊😀

A fascinating read set mostly in the Amazon, Dr Annick Swenson is working on a drug which could help women's lives. But the pharmaceutical company haven't heard from her in ages, they send another doctor but then receive a letter saying he dead. Finally Dr Marina Singh is sent and what she discovers is astounding. I didn't really think I would enjoy this but I was very gripped from the beginning.

SamAnne Might be my favorite Patchett! 2y

Not sure why I haven't read this book before because Ann Patchett is one of my favorite authors. Love her character development and her strong descriptions of setting. Also everything is not neatly tied up in a bow at the end and perhaps that's why she always leaves me wanting to come back for more of her writing.

SamAnne Loved this one. 2y
Kristin_Reads She has a new one coming out in August, too! 2y
