This was a great listen for our road trip. Hubs likes YA and said he wanted something light. I loved the relationship between the three sisters, the Song girls. We may listen to the sequel on the way home.

So, I‘ll go with innocent pleasure more than #guiltypleasure I feel no guilt with either of these picks! They definitely take me back to more innocent times. Me as a 12 year old girl listening to NKOTB and being in love with Jordan Knight and my daughter being a 12 year old girl and us reading this series together and both being in love with Peter K. So this is my ode to innocent love. No guilt needed (well, maybe a little 😉). 💕 #titlesandtunes

To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han is a Asian/Pacific American Awards for literature winner that was published in 2014. It is a teen romantic comedy novel. It is about a teen who writes love letters to the boys she's loved before and somehow it reaches the boys who she wrote them about. This is an awesome teen book that is sweet and funny.

It may be juvenile, full of tropes, and the MC might be a little annoying, but this story sucked me in and when I turned the last page I immediately wanted more. Lara Jean and her sisters lost their mom at a young age. It‘s just them and their dad, who is doing his best raising 3 girls. This is a YA romance, coming of age, sisterhood drama with lots of heart. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

This was my #doublespin for April! @TheAromaofBooks

Elizabeth2 I told my almost 17 year old daughter she might like this book. When I described it to her, she said “oh there‘s a Netflix movie like that.” I told her the movie was based on the book. She said, “yeah, I wasn‘t interested in the movie.” And walked away. 😆 Her tastes run more toward anime and the occasional graphic novel, but I know she likes the romance angle in what she watches. 🤷‍♀️ She‘s not a reader, but a mom can try…. I loved the movie of this for a few years now, so naturally, I was looking forward to the book. But I was shockingly disappointed. Instead of having a strong and fun relationship with her best friend, the friend is always getting drunk and going to parties and bossing around Lara Jean. And no, it‘s not one a plot point of the book. And Peter is such a stereotypical jock it was hard to read a lot of us. And I‘m sorry, but one cannot go through ⬇️

Zoe-h ⬆️ a intense personal argument with their boyfriend, fake or real, for a full page and then, while the fight‘s still going, “be all oooh you‘re so cute when you‘re at the beck and call of your ex”. 2.75⭐️ 3y

Unfortunately, this book was not for me. I knew I was in trouble the moment we hit the fake dating trope. Add to that that much of the plot relies on people not telling each other things, a weird love triangle with flat boys, and reliance on an implausible plot device to have the titular letters exist and disperse. The cherry on top was the lack of an actual ending. (I did like the relationships of the sisters for the most part.)

At long last, we‘re talking about To All the Boys I‘ve Loved Before on my podcast! Author Farah Naz Rishi joins me to chat about the Netflix adaptation, along with the book‘s portrayal of sisterhood, people pleasing, sex, popularity, healthy relationships, and so much more. We also have a conversation about the importance of representation in pop culture. 💌 Link to listen in my bio!

Two of Colleen Hoover books followed by The Hate you Give was getting a little intense for me so I decided to put my tbr on hold and re-read one of my favorites, something light hearted and adorable the first book of the To all the Boys Trilogy.🍻📚

My daughter recently watched this on Netflix so I thought I‘d read it first. This is the story of Lara Jean who has written a letter to all the boys she‘s had crushes on but never sent the letters out. One day they are sent out and all her secrets are revealed.
This book had many levels but I especially liked it when the author focused on the sisters relationship. I was slightly disappointed with the ending as it made me want for more.

mom2bugnbee You're in luck - there are two more! And they have all been made or will be made into Netflix movies. They are among my daughter's faves - both the books & the movies. 3y

So freaking cute!!!

Imagine (secretly) writing love letters to all your crushes and then wake up one day and they‘ve all been delivered!? Whoa!

This took me right back to high school.

My first completed book for the #july4thweekendreadathon and I have logged seven hours total so far!!

Prairiegirl_reading I‘m not the biggest the biggest fan of the books (the first one is the best IMO) but two of the three movies are so cute and fun! 3y

Dear Litsy,

Help! I need a YA book that fits the prompt #artsyfartsy to fit a #BBRC prompt. Google helpfully came up with this, which my library actually had on audio... but I just can‘t. Full on teen romance - 6 more hours of it - not for me. Any suggestions?

As far as this one goes, it‘s very sweet, very young, kind of predictable and I just don‘t care, old grinch that I am.

TIA

julesG Found a page with some books. Maybe there's one you like and can get through your library: https://skokielibrary.info/lists/822/life-is-a-canvas-teen-artists-in-ya-literat... 4y

rockpools @mhillis Reserved! Thank you 😊. This sounds like something I‘d like to read anyway, so I‘ll give it a go. 4y
Oryx I think it would work - I had a look at that plot on Wikipedia, as I forget plots approximately 2 weeks after finishing a book, and there's stuff about a sketchbook and the art institute of Chicago. 4y
rockpools @Oryx Brilliant- thanks Emma. I‘ve reserved the ebook but will try and nab a print copy on Friday. And I‘m the same with plots. I remember the feel of a book for years, but ask me what it‘s about... 😐 4y

Lara Jean finds herself in a fake relationship after her love letters get mailed.

When I read the book originally, I thought it to be quite good, reading/listening again it just didn‘t appeal to me too much. I also have a problem with the father relying heavily on his older daughters to take care of the household responsibilities and younger siblings. He has no real responsibility over the girls or the house.

Maya and I are reading this series together now that all 3 movies are on Netflix. She flew through it while we were at the beach, and loved it. It‘s a really cute and adorable story, and pure YA contemporary fluff. Apparently that‘s what I need right now, because I liked it a lot more than I thought I would!

Both M and I have already started the 2nd book, which she snuck in her backpack so I‘m book less until she comes home from school. 😂

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I absolutely loved this series & i would reread it countless of times if my time allowed me. I loved how innocent & pure the romance was in these books. It was an easy read to! Made me feel all giddy like I was back in high school. Also these books gave me a new found hobby of baking! Never would of known I‘d enjoy it so much but Laura Jean really inspired me. Not to mention the movie adaptions are also my favorites too.

This weekend I was on a baking spree and participated in the #NailedItAtHome baking kit experience where we attempted to make Lara Jean's hat box with all her love letters! Jenny Han and the actresses who played Lara Jean and Kitty were on the live zoom, and it was hosted by Jacques Torres! It was so fun. My bow and lid did not come out how I'd hoped, but pretty proud of the rest! I can't wait to find time to watch the new movie!

Honestly, I only started to read this because I felt I owed it to my bank account and the movie is adorable. That being said, the fact that I had the movie scenes to hold on to is what helped me make it through this book. I don‘t think I would‘ve finished it otherwise. Now I just have to figure out if I owe it to my bank account to finish the rest of the trilogy.

Did a reread of this series this week while I‘m on vacation. It felt like a good light buffer between The Count of Monte Cristo and A Tale of Two Cities.

I‘ve got such a soft spot for a good romance. Anyone have any recommendations for a swoony contemporary romance read? I feel like kicking the year off with a little love 💕

This book was super cute and easy to read. I really enjoyed the family dynamics and relationships. Life has been super busy so I've been leaning towards light reads. I put all three books on the #bookspin card so I'll probably continue with the series 😊

So excited to be working on my December #BookSpinBingo 😁 This book was #10 on my list.

Lara Jean‘s internal monologue feels real. So. many other YA novels I‘ve read sound like an adult simply parodying the way they think teenagers speak “nowadays”, which is patronising to say the least. To All The Boys I‘ve Loved Before, however, hits the mark – a bullseye! Ah, to be young and in love… Full review here: https://keepingupwiththepenguins.com/to-all-the-boys-ive-loved-before-jenny-han/

I didn't love this book but I I do want to continue on with the series just to see what happens. It had good moments where I was like this isn't bad, I'm enjoying it and then other moments where I was eye-rolling and over it. 🙄😂

I've had this book on my TBR shelf for a while and thanks to #AudibleEscape I can officially mark this one as read. ✔

Prairiegirl_reading This is the best book of the trilogy imo. The first movie is cute, watch that and call it a day. 😉 4y
BookKenz @Prairiegirl_reading Oh boy. I think I might just take your advice there. Especially since I see there is already a second movie too. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 4y

There has been so much hype around this book for so long that even though the synopsis didn‘t really speak to me I had to give it a shot. All in all this book was a pleasant surprise. Yes, the plot is far fetched, but I loved the characters and I couldn‘t help but want the best for them.

I also watched the movie and it was a really great adaptation and did the book justice which made me so very happy.
