While this wasn‘t quite a favorite read, it did have magic, adventure, a group of misfits and an evil tyrant attempting world domination so I can‘t complain too much. The characters were unique. The cover stated the protagonist was in high school but she is only twelve so i believe the difference between high school in the U.S. and secondary school in Ireland led to s goof. Stephanie came across as older than twelve too.

One of the other book sets I‘ve bought this week 😬 I read these probably about 10 years ago when I was a kid but I had an urge to read them again after seeing them on Pinterest, because of how much I enjoyed them. so I treated myself to the first 9 of them. Looking forward to reading them all again. They were such fun books with a fantastic storyline, I‘m excited now! 🤩

This was surprisingly delightful. I was a little shaky on it at first, as there is a bit of home invasion at the beginning and I have issues around that, but once I got through that part, it gripped me hard enough that I couldn‘t stop.

This is not grabbing me and pulling me in though it really should. It has all the elements I like. I think I‘m not in the right mood; I can see why my sons love it.

Starts in the holidays between Stephanie‘s 1st & 2nd years of secondary school in Haggard, Ireland. My sons both started reading this series in around their 2nd year of primary school; my 11 year old still loves it and has been urging me to read it too.

*Unpopular opinion here* 🙊 I didn‘t love this book. I gave it a 👍🏼 because I can see its appeal...it‘s fast-paced and clever, but it just didn‘t have enough character depth (which, for me is what makes or breaks a story). But my middle school son likes it, and he is definitely in this book‘s target audience! #oregonbattleofthebooks

This is a series that my older son started (when he was still into reading) and then my younger son devoured and is still following. Might as well jump on the bandwagon. 🤗 It comes highly recommended (by my 11 year old).

I wonder if Landry is making a tongue in cheek reference to himself 😉

There's something very familiar about Skulduggery's mannerisms and way of speaking that remind me of some other character, but I can't put my finger on which one.

It's also a shame I never read this series when I was a kid, because as much as I'm enjoying it now, 12 year old me would have adored it!

Halloween may be over, but my library books show I‘m still in the mood for spooks: a middle grade talking skeleton detective, YA zombie folklore, librarians in hell, and necromancers in space. I‘ve read 1.5 of these so far, but I have the day off today and plenty of time to read!

Something you read when you're young, definitely not something you read at adult age. I enjoyed it then.

1. I love Dublin! I only had the chance to visit Dublin once, but I'm quite sure I'll visit again!
2. There's no rain, so it's great! Might go for another audiowalk right after breakfast
3. Hmmm never really dated... Maybe you could call my first meeting with my husband the worst date... We talked and he left midsentence xD

Fast paced fantasy with lots of magic and action. GreAt names too.

This series has gone through a few covers. Originally a series out of the UK, the books didn‘t do as well in the US and for the longest time you could only get books 1-3. But thinks to ebooks the popularity had grown (I think, but don‘t quote me) you can now get all (12?) books in the. US but after the first few titles, the US publisher kept the UK cover, which got an update at book 12. I believe this series is still going.

Skulduggery Pleasant, book 1.

After Stephanie‘s uncle (an author of fantastical horror novels) dies, she is drawn into a world of magic. Alone at her uncle‘s house, she is attacked by a creature searching for a key and subsequently rescued by a fast-talking skeleton detective with a flair for both fashion and elemental magic.

Heavy on plot and light on character development, but lots of witty repartee between Stephanie and her new mentor.

Two books finished 📚(the Sherlock Holmes collection is in 6 parts, and I finished the 1st part) so starting on a new set of reads. I wanted to get a start on the Kalevala for #BackpackEurope but only got a few pages in before I got distracted, so I'm going back to Skulduggery Pleasant for something light and easy for now, and The Andromeda Strain is holding my attention so far 😊 10hours left! 😎❤🧡💛

This book surprised me in the best ways.
1. It doesn‘t have that patronizing, over-explanatory tone that kids/middle graders books usually have. Instead it was peppered with plenty of cheeky humor! 👍🏼
2. It is purposely silly and ironic and succeeds at both 👍🏼
3. It featured original characters that are charming, quirky, and relatable 👍🏼
4. It had unexpected twists 👍🏼
5. It‘s just a really fun read!
Will be continuing the series, no doubt.

I don‘t often use the word ”delightful”, but it seems fitting here!
I also don‘t often read middle-grades books, but this so far seems worthy of an exception 😎

This is my friend‘s favorite series, so I was excited to check it out. I wasn‘t disappointed! The writing is amazing! The dialogue is smooth and hilarious. I love the characters and their interactions with one another. I can‘t wait to read more of the series.

I absolutely love the Skulduggery Pleasant books. This series is so amazing and I read the books like three times and they're still amazing. This series is to me what #HarryPotter is to everyone else, and I reeeeaaaally wish more people would give it a chance. I know, I know, who wants to read about a skeleton, right? BUT it's not just about a skeleton. It's about a bad-ass 12-year-old named Stephanie who inherits her uncle's house after he dies, and with that house comes a buttload of danger. So teaming up with a skeleton might not be a bad idea after all...

After listening to an entire Facebook group rant on and on about this series, I bought the first book. And though I'm only 100 pages in, man am I grateful to those people.

Looked it! Read the first book in sixth grade and finished it the next year then read the last one when it came out!

This is a book that I borrowed from the library ages ago but was so brilliant that I had to buy my own copy so I could reread it whenever I want. It's my choice for #day6 of #booktober because it is #fullofadventure and the characters are written absolutely perfectly. The concept of a skeleton detective is ridiculous but he is so wonderfully sparky, he's one of my favourite childhood characters. I definitely recommend!
