“All animals have a color of their own, except for chameleons. They change color wherever they go.“ I love this quote because it sets up the main idea of the story, where the chameleon feels different because of his inability to keep a consistent color.
I would use this book in my classroom to have discussions about identity and friendship.
pickA Color of His Own was written by Leo Lionni and published originally in 1975. This book is about a chameleon who tries to find his own color. After awhile, he learns to accept himself and finds friendship around him. Great book with beautiful illustrations.

My #naturalitsy friends may love this one. A quick read about turtles and those that save them and the science behind why we care for turtles and what we can learn from turtles about time. What amazing creatures.
pickI love this book! Sy Montgomery lives the life I should be living! She works with animals and their carers or those who study them and then writes books about her experiences. She‘s written about octopuses, pigs, and a collection of essays, “How to be a Good Creature”. This one is my favorite of hers I‘ve read so far though. These turtles and the people who serve them have my heart! I admire the rescue organizations Sy mentions in the book.
