Several unexpected plot twists later....
Very well written. I love the ending. I don‘t want to give anything away, so you‘re just gonna have to message @EricQiao and get your own copy.
Written by our fellow litten @EricQiao this is a book about a young man who travels to rural China in hopes of finding out what happened to his sister. He ends up getting entangled in a murder investigation, bribery and corruption. This was extremely eye opening and heartbreaking.
One of the overarching themes in this page-turning mystery by fellow Litten @EricQiao is how our environment influences who we become and the choices we make. What are we willing to do to survive and move forward? And in the effort to change the destiny of another person, what inner resources might we discover in ourselves? I'm about half way through and curious to see how the characters resolve these questions. #China #writersoflitsy
Thank you @EricQiao I'm excited to start this!! Fancy homemade cold brew coffee and a bit of reading seems like a great way to spend some of this afternoon!
There is nothing better than receiving #bookmail after a long and rainy day !

An article today in WAPO is titled “In China and India, there are 70 million more men than women. Here are the consequences.” The consequences, which I‘ve long observed, was fictionalized in my book, The Only Girl in China. While fiction is also meant to be entertaining, one cannot ignore the severity of the underlying issue. The article concluded with women in India taking a stand. Well, China, your turn.
I really liked this book!! I loved how the main characters interacted with each other! This book really had me guessing who did what and kept my interest! I had to keep reading to see what was going to happen next! Highly recommended!!! You won‘t be disappointed!!😀
My debut is available on #Netgalley till the 15th! Currently 95% on Litsy and ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 1/2 on Amazon. Add it to your stack, it‘s free!
I finished this today while sitting at the doctors office. While this was a bit sexist and gory, it was a good solid mystery that I didn't figure out, with a little romance thrown in. It's also set up for a sequel, which I would be happy to read as well! Truly an enjoyable mystery, with lots I didn't know about China. Thanks @EricQiao !
#TBRtemptation post 1! #PhillyMeetUp #bookswap edition! Proudly displayed by @Jess ! Ed Li is on a mission to find his missing sister. His plan is to teach in a rural Chinese village with ties to her. He hates it. When he quits, a local girl is murdered and he's the prime suspect. And she has ties to his sister. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
My stack for #24in48 readathon. I'm hoping Luna will be my reading buddy if she's not too busy playing. No chance that Calypso will join, she's not a cuddler and didn't even want to be in the picture. #catsoflitsy #littenkitten
I love a good mystery and the plot in this one was propulsive and original! I read this in one sitting. The dialogue was awkward in places (for example, the main character's habit of saying "for serious" made you take him, well, not so seriously). Overall, a great debut.
Thank you so much @DGRachel for passing this on to me. It did arrive earlier. Sorry I was remiss in acknowledging your kindness! #litsyfriendsarethebest @EricQiao

Still plugging away at Mount TBR. But, I sort of got carried away with #netgalley requests when some summer booklists came out and I need to get to a few ARCs this week, too!
Just finished Chapter 1. I think I'm going to enjoy this mystery. #Q #LitsyReadingChallenge
I was halfway through this book this morning but I just had to stay up to finish. This was a great debut mystery novel set in rural china. The characters are believable and the story is well paced. I thought I had it all figured out a couple of times but I was mistaken. The twists weren't huge but palatable. I enjoyed this read and recommend it! @EricQiao I'd read the sequel if you write one!!
I am really liking this book so far, I'm only about halfway through but this has the marks of a good mystery. Teachers in a foreign land, a crush, murder and an innocent trying to clear his name. Thanks @EricQiao I can't wait to finish this.
A couple recent #freebie books for #riotgrams
The Rosie Project was passed on by a neighbour; The Ministry of Utmost Happiness was a Goodreads win; and thank you to @EricQiao for The Only Girl in China!
Finished this as the sun went down. Perfect summer mystery and I loved reading about rural China. Seems like it's set up for a sequel??? Good job!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
[Note it's not a perfectly edited copy but that didn't bother me. Thanks for the book Eric, in exchange for an honest review].
As a person with half siblings out there that I don't know, I can relate to that feeling! Papa was a rolling stone, as they say 😫
Overall, this is a solid mystery. Full of unlikeable characters, it is set largely in China, following Ed, who is looking for his lost sister, left behind when he was adopted to the US. He becomes wrapped in a mystery in a small village, which is when the book gets really engaging. I loved the setting and the layers of narrative. The copy editing errors are maddening, but heavily concentrated early in the book, so I would encourage pushing thru.
This is a clever mystery full of plot twists, funny moments and interesting characters – I was drawn in from the first page and had a hard time putting it down. @EricQiao created a very vivid atmosphere, I could really see myself in Dayong with Ed and Lorie (except that I'd hate to be in a place where such horrible things happen)! It was also really interesting to read and learn about some of China's darkest issues. A really good read!
I'm so sorry. I really wanted to love this book, but it just isn't for me. I abhor both the main characters and the dialogue is grating on my nerves. There are a significant quantity of proofreading errors that are distracting, as well. I've given the book 150 pages and I dread picking it back up. Almost all the other reviews are very positive, so it must be me, not the book. (More in comments)
I went looking for #yellowcovers and only found this rather mismatched pair! I apparently have lots of yellow spines, but not so many covers. Toes belong to my 3 year old, wondering what I was doing with his beloved Pooh.

I'm nearly finished with this, but I dozed off last night while reading 😴😭 so now that it's a new day and I'm caffeinated, let's go!
Summer break is in full swing here. We spent the morning walking to Starbucks and a local playground, came home and had a picnic in the backyard, and now the girls are playing before nap as I finish up my book. This was a whodunit that takes place in a very rural Chinese village. The setting really made this book a pick for me, as it is not something you frequently come across. The main character was very endearing. Thanks for the ARC @EricQiao
@EricQiao I've been doing some more brainstorming. something else I thought of was to ask people who've read it to recommend it for their public library's digital collection. My public library offers patrons ebooks via Overdrive and we can "recommend" a book for the library to purchase.
Three hour drive home from the lake. The question is, will my husband (aka the driver) be annoyed if I read the entire time?
Intriguing from the get go. Looking forward to it. Thank you Eric!
I'm so excited about my book mail from @EricQiao I'll read and review it as soon as I'm done with the two current books I'm reading. Thank you for sharing it with me😊#theonlygirlinchina
