“The inspiring story behind a flag that symbolizes love, hope, and pride.“
This inspiring picture book tells the story of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official, and the creation of the rainbow flag as a symbol of hope and equality. It‘s a celebration of courage, unity, and the fight for LGBTQ+ rights.
This was a lovely, informative read about Harvey Milk and the origin of the rainbow flag as a symbol for the pride movement. I wish it would have gone into what each color on the flag represents but otherwise it was a great introduction for kids. It also inspired me to finally watch the movie Milk with Sean Penn, which was amazing btw

A wonderful story about how the rainbow flag came to be. It made me cry. First with sadness then with joy and pride.

“You have to give them hope. Hope for a better world. Hope for a better tomorrow”
This is a very educational and relevant book with a lot of historical information to provide children with. It is unbiased and very informative. It shares the history, the movement, and how it looks today.
This is an inspiring and hopeful story of Harvey Milk and the symbol that he created that is now known as the pride flag. They displayed the flag in a match, asking for equality and to live and love as they please. He was assassinated by someone who had opposing beliefs. This was not the end of Harvey‘s movement and message.
For several of reasons, I haven't posted my own BINGO updates in a while. I finally finished recently with the tagged. Congratulations to everyone who has completed their cards (some more than once), and to those still working on it or deciding to start right now: I look forward to seeing your reads.
I'm looking ahead to 2023's cars now. Does anyone have fun prompt suggestions they'd like to see?

I enjoyed this book! This book is about the LGBTQ+ community. In this story, it gives facts about how the rainbow flags were created. I think this is a great book to read to educate young students on this topic.

This is a great book to teach kids about people in the LGBTQ+ community. This book explains the creation of the community‘s flag.

Last month, We Are Family hosted a queer youth prom in Charleston, SC. My fellow clinic escorts and I were proud to be part of this magical night! I so wish there was something like this when I was in Highschool. Let‘s make sure we affirm and protect queer youth today. Happy Pride everyone!
Park Circle Pride and We Are Family put together a queer adult prom and we went last night. There was glitter. Hair, makeup, nails, heels. Gowns, corsets. Music, and tacos. What‘s not to love?! Welcome to our Pride in Charleston, SC ya‘ll!
Love the additional resources in Rob‘s books! Just suggested these to my sister-in-law who teaches kindergarten. #pridemonth #childrensbook
I have attended Charlotte‘s Pride Festival every year since we moved here. The attendance this weekend was INCREDIBLE!
So amazing, in fact, that my social anxiety started spiking in the crowds. More than 200,000 people attended this weekend. 🌈 ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
After the parade, we left earlier than usual and hit up B&N and read the tagged book instead of walking through the festival.

I find it interesting how this flag came about. In no way do I agree with what it stands for.
Pride The Story of Harvey Milk and the Rainbow Flag is a NF written by Rob Sanders and illustrated by Steven Salerno. This books tells the amazing life of Harvey Milk and the work he did for the LGBTQ+ community. It tells of his work along with the I legacy he left behind. This is a great book to use during Pride Month for your students, especially in October if you live in Orlando when Orlando Pride is celebrated.
Have Pride Month display up in our window.
@MrsMalaprop and @Rissreads guess where I went again today?😊😊😊 Lovely book by the way. Story told in an easy way for kids but great for big people too.
This brief history of Harvey Milk‘s dream for equality for gay people is a great introduction. It briefly touches on his work to change laws, his work with Gilbert Baker who created the first Rainbow Flag, as well as Milk‘s and George Moscone‘s assassinations in San Francisco. I like how the story ends with how the work for equality has carried on, but I wish marriage equality was specifically named.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Informative with beautiful, engaging illustrations that bring to life the history of the pride flag. This is not text heavy, so it makes a great story time read for kids with small attention spans. There is a more detailed section at the back of the book with a timeline and resources.
A very quick introduction to the history behind the rainbow flag used to symbolize gay rights.
4/5 ⭐️
I think I was looking for a bit more history.

Anyone know where this image originated? I saved it to my photos, but I do not have the origin information. Thanks in advance.
I will be starting off Pride Month tomorrow by reading the tagged book.
I plan to read only books with an LGBTQ 🏳️🌈 element during the month of June.
I‘m also creating a book list for my middle school.
My request is for your help in this list. I have a list started and I will try to share the link.
If you know of a picture book, middle grade or high school novel, or non-fiction title I should add please leave a tag to the book in the comments.
I don‘t need likes, just suggestions please.
Thank you!
I found this book while pulling Books to be part of our PRIDE month display. It was so sweet! And, yes a children‘s book made me tear up 😁
Indie bookstore haul! Went book shopping with my oldest friend and her daughter, who were visiting from Chicago. Of course I left with the most books.
Big add campaign behind this book. Seen it multiple places.
