"Tenderly and courageously told, Gracefully Grayson is a small miracle of a book. Its story is so compelling I found myself holding my breath as I read it and so intimate I felt as if what was happening to Grayson was happening to me. Thank you, Ami Polonsky, for creating this memorable character who will open hearts and minds and very possibly be the miracle that changes lives." —James Howe, award-winning and best-selling author of The Misfits What if who you are on the outside doesn't match who you are on the inside? Grayson Sender has been holding onto a secret for what seems like forever: "he" is a girl on the inside, stuck in the wrong gender's body. The weight of this secret is crushing, but sharing it would mean facing ridicule, scorn, rejection, or worse. Despite the risks, Grayson's true self itches to break free. Will new strength from an unexpected friendship and a caring teacher's wisdom be enough to help Grayson step into the spotlight she was born to inhabit? Debut author Ami Polonsky's moving, beautifully-written novel about identity, self-esteem, and friendship shines with the strength of a young person's spirit and the enduring power of acceptance

If anyone refers a book to me, please do so with food & drink suggestions.

Read-y_Picker Does that mean you‘ll also only accept book recommendations with good menus? Because I can think of some books… yikes! 1y
ElizaMarie Ooo I love this! 1y
Sharpeipup @read-y_picker tell me more please 1y
Aims42 I agree!!!! Should I be snacking on chips or digging into a bowl of spaghetti and meatballs??? 1y
Read-y_Picker @Sharpeipup Actually forget that. When a book rec features disgusting food or anything difficult to deal with you should get a 'coping menu' of your fave comfort foods lol. 1y

Risk taking is not free, but I can assure you, it‘s worth it.

this book gives me so many emotions, the way the author portrays the character and the way she reacts to them, and the little things that evoke so much pain and envy are just so good, i can't wait to finish

I just raced through this in ~36 hrs. Some of the reviews I have read described this book as a quiet story, and I mostly agree, but it is also vivid. Grayson was a very likable and believable character, and their (the book doesn't quite get to pronouns) internal reflections and struggles, paired with the community that builds around them in the face of conflict kind of destroyed me. I just really wish I could give this kid a hug. #diversebooks

In this excellent book, Grayson is 12, and has always felt like he should be a girl. When the tryouts start for the school play, he wants to audition for the female lead. Really moving. #alltheworldsastage #feistyfeb

I took a quick photo of Gracefully Grayson, on shelf display at the library. I had a look for it last year, hearing about it on Goodreads; hadn't quite spotted it until this last visit. Our Georgina, Ontario libraries are really great with keeping the LGBTQ books featured. I'll sure find a day to give it a read for thoughts.

When I heard that some OK librarians complained to OLA about this book's inclusion in the Sequoyah list because they felt it was "pushing transgender propaganda," I was prompted to finally read it. I thought it would be racy or edgy or something. But no, it's just a well-written story of a transgender 6th grader.

People are entitled to their opinions, but it's a real shame if they're keeping this kind of story out of their libraries. ?

Suzze I thought it was a great book! 8y
Teenta @Suzze I really enjoyed it. I'm pretty laid-back about selection for my library, but sometimes I can see why people are against a book even when I'm not. But this book is pretty doggone tame. 8y
Dan_SpiderCrafts @Teenta Sad to hear of the grumps, but great to see the book displayed in my local library. I'm looking forward to reading it there soon! 8y

A really amazing middle grade book about Grayson, who is struggling to figure out who ze is. An understanding teacher and a part in the school play go a long way to giving Grayson a place to belong. A moving story about a transgender child.
