The Simple Wild
The Simple Wild: A Novel | K.A. Tucker
City girl Calla Fletcher attempts to reconnect with her estranged father, and unwittingly finds herself torn between her desire to return to the bustle of Toronto and a budding relationship with a rugged Alaskan pilot in this masterful new romance from acclaimed author K.A. Tucker. Calla Fletcher was two when her mother took her and fled the Alaskan wild, unable to handle the isolation of the extreme, rural lifestyle, leaving behind Callas father, Wren Fletcher, in the process. Calla never looked back, and at twenty-six, a busy life in Toronto is all she knows. But when her father reaches out to inform her that his days are numbered, Calla knows that its time to make the long trip back to the remote frontier town where she was born. She braves the roaming wildlife, the odd daylight hours, the exorbitant prices, and even the occasionaldear Godouthouse, all for the chance to connect with her father: a man who, despite his many faults, she cant help but care for. While she struggles to adjust to this new subarctic environment, Jonahthe quiet, brooding, and proud Alaskan pilot who keeps her fathers charter plane company operationalcant imagine calling anywhere else home. And hes clearly waiting with one hand on the throttle to fly this city girl back to where she belongs, convinced that shes too pampered to handle the wild. Jonah is probably right, but Calla is determined to prove him wrong. As time passes, she unexpectedly finds herself forming a bond with the burly pilot. As his undercurrent of disapproval dwindles, its replaced by friendshipor perhaps something deeper? But Calla is not in Alaska to stay and Jonah will never leave. It would be foolish of her to kindle a romance, to take the same path her parents triedand failed atyears ago. Its a simple truth that turns out to be not so simple after all.

I'm taking a break from ARCs today. Romance isn't normally my jam, so this may be a risky one, but we shall see. Happy Friday to you all. Hope it's a good one. 🙂

This was my first KA Tucker book, but I promise that it won‘t be my last. The writing, the setting, the messages, the romance? It was all perfect in my eyes.
This book also shines a spotlight on found families and platonic love, too.
The overall message of this book is so important and so beautiful. We have to let people live the life that they want to live. We don‘t have to agree, but we can always be supportive and try to be empathetic. 5⭐

5/5

I picked this up after hearing it was similar to It Happened One Summer and definitely agree, if you love one of these books you'll love the other. After finding out her estranged father has lung cancer, Calla returns to the Alaskan wilderness for the first time since she was 2 to get to know the man. She immediately butts heads with one of her father's employees, gruff bush-pilot Jonah.

Mehso-so

I feel bad marking this as “so-so” when I‘m clearly not the reader for this book, but I was so taken by all the glowing reviews so I must add my own perspective. I‘m much too “dark and twisty” for this book, plus I don‘t enjoy romances. I should have known better. The storyline did keep my attention and I loved the Alaska setting but constant superficial talk of makeup, hair, clothes, etc just really didn‘t work for me. A “new adult” type of novel

MsMelissa I hate romance novels but loved this one (although this isn‘t a romance-romance novel if that makes any sense to anyone but me 😂). I had zero expectations for it though, and had not read any reviews, which might have helped. 4y
ShelleyBooksie Same - I loved it but had not heard about it before.reading 4y
Chelsea.Poole @MsMelissa @ShelleyBooksie so glad to hear you all enjoyed it! I definitely enjoyed many parts but on the whole I wasn‘t blown away, which as I said, is more on me as I know myself and I should have known better. 4y

Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

When it comes to romance, the enemies to lovers trope is my favorite.

Calla hasn't been back to Alaska since she and her mother moved to Toronto when she was 2. After finding out her estranged father is ill, she heads back to spend time with him and finally get to know him. While there she meets Jonah, her father's right hand man. The sexual tension between the two was just delicious and I couldn't get enough of the story.

I've been slowly working my way through K.A. Tucker books and am definitely a fan. This book is one of her more popular ones and follows Calla, a city girl, who takes a trip to rural Alaska to reconnect with her estranged father. There is an enemies to lovers romance which I enjoyed, but I still don't know how I feel about that ending! I'll definitely pick up the next book eventually. Have you read any #katucker books?

Beatlefan129 Did you see there is a sequel to this that just came out? 4y

Callie ventures to Alaska when she learns the father she barely knows has cancer. She must adjust to a place that is so foreign to her it might as well be another continent complete with a surly pilot neighbor who seems to hate her on sight but is always around. The romance is great. Really great. But the setting and complex relationships are what make this book so special. Loved it and excited that there will be a sequel.

I will start by saying that I borrowed this from the library but I‘ll probably be buying my own copy. The characters, all of them, are well-rounded, unique, and flawed. The (blood related and found) family dynamics are complex and messy but true. And then the romance is the cherry on top. I am a sucker for bickering as foreplay and fantastic dialogue and banter, and Simple Wild has that in spades. Overall, it‘s just lovely and a new favorite.

robinb I loved this one too! ❤️❤️❤️ 6y

2. Kids swim lessons, errands, order Christmas card, put up outside lights. I probably won‘t do it all.

Really enjoyed this one! ❤️ New author for me, but I‘ll definitely be checking out her backlist.
A story about all the emotions of re-connecting to an ill parent that you‘ve been estranged from since you were a toddler. A story about finding love in the least likely place. And a story about both forgiving and loving even when it may not turn out all rosy. Humorous, sad and ultimately hopeful. Well done! 4.5/5⭐️
