This was an original story with solid world building. I enjoyed the characters a lot. The pacing was uneven though, and the writing style seemed bland. A solid, average 3 stars. I am slightly interested in the rest of the story since it ended on a cliffhanger, but I'm not itching to finish it. Anouk is a very constant character, but the fact that she‘s 17 with three love interests in this book (and one that proposes TWICE) bothers me a little. I think the ‘bury your gays‘ trope is tired, and also fake in this sense so - why? Petra was the first trans representation I‘d ever seen in a ‘mainstream‘ book, and I love her to bits.

This one was a bit strange at first. It took a little bit to kind of become familiar with this world and know what was going on. I liked that there were different types of characters in the story, witches, goblins, and beasties. It made for an interesting story and I‘m interested to see the direction the second book will take.

Eh. Started off slow but eventually improved.

So this book gave me mixed feelings. On the whole I think the concept was super imaginative and something I‘ve never really read before. The characters were relatable and some were even morally grey which I loved. But something about it made this book a very long read even though it wasn‘t an extremely long book. Over all I may not reread this but I‘m planning on trying to make it through the next book in the series. #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks

Today‘s #colormepretty is #rainbow! I went for an LGBT+ theme for this one.

Grim Lovelies‘ main character might be straight, but there‘s a trans character and a gay character.

Passing I read for a class, but the point is brought up that it could be read as a lesbian awakening. After reading it, I would agree with that point.

Hero I read in high school and it‘s a great book about the struggles of coming out AND being a teenage superhero. 10/10

Ugh I really tried but I'm throwing it in at chapter 28. I'm so so so incredibly bored and not interested and the characters are just dull.

I picked this up for a few seconds yesterday and wasn't feeling it so I am going to try again!

This was a fast paced and interesting read. Though the magic system didn't seem consistent. The writing was fine but not very vivid descriptions. But it was a fun story with interesting characters.

This was fun! New and exciting and such a fun take on magic! Sometimes the same old magic ideas bore me but this twist was a lot of fun! The only sad thing is the conclusion doesn‘t come out till September! 😭

Stuck in a book slump, sick yet again. Time for a little Bourbon in my tea and a new read!

I wonder if my rating would be much different if I was 16. I don‘t know. I won‘t be continuing with the series. Pros: cool world and rules around magic

I was not very good yesterday at BNs 1/2 price sale. But it‘s hard to be good when you have a purse full of gift cards.

I loved the concept of this book. It had some great ambience at the beginning which I felt was lacking as the book progressed. However I did really enjoy the tale and will definitely keep reading the series.

Woke up early do take notes for today's Fountain of Youth book club discussion of Grim Lovelies. Megan Shepherd is skyping in! I've loved all of her books, but this is my favorite so far.

This was a very fast paced, thrilling read! The world building was so creative and unique, I have not read anything like this before! The writing was beautiful. Anouk was a very interesting character especially at the end. I can‘t wait a whole year for the sequel 😩 But I do highly recommend this book! It‘s a great October read and perfect for introducing urban fantasy to someone who is unfamiliar with that genre. 4.5/5 🌟

I absolutely LOVED this book!! It kicks off a new YA Fantasy set in the #CityOfDreams (#Paris naturally!). Its narrator is a beastie- an animal changed by a witch into a human servant. But Anouk is more than a maid and this fast-paced adventure takes her and her fellow beasties all over the city - encountering other witches and #Goblins too! Such fun!!! #SeptemberDanes #NewHogwartsAdventure

I've been a fan of Megan Shepherd from the beginning and this is my favorite of her books! I know it doesn't come out until October, but all the love for this book with its Beasties, Witches, Goblins and Pretties in modern day Paris. I wish I could skip summer and head right to fall!
