pickMarisa de los Santos‘ books are pure comfort. Every book of hers, I just want to hug when I finish reading. Her characters are usually a little too idealized, the dialogue a little too sparkling & perfect, and I totally don‘t care because I love them so much. This was no different. I loved seeing Taisy & Willow—unlikely sisters—grow through past & present pain and step into healing, building a broader family for themselves & for each other.💜
pickIn a twist, this book features an unlikeable, helicopter dad rather than a snarky helicopter mom. Dad‘s got everyone under his thumb. Who will be brave enough to break away for good? I love the way de los Santos writes.
I'm extremely blessed. This entire creek area is literally a couple steps from my door to my house. (It's what sold us, really) With the nice weather I come out with a blanket and sit on the grass and read and it's very convenient for my nature fill.
Also, nothing like enjoying a romantic book with the sun out!

But seriously. I'm rather loving this book about a father who quits his first family after they disappoint him & starts a second one with high hopes. Quirky characters, plenty of secrets...I think fans of Joshilyn Jackson will love this one!

pickThis was really lovely and sweet as her books always tend to be. But it was flawed. It was a little slow, especially at the beginning, and then I felt as though none of the romance was fully developed. And for a book ostensibly about the father, he wasn't in it all that much. The ending dragged; the teenage dialogue was not always believable. However the writing and lovable characters made it worth the read. 6/10 ⭐️
My antidote. I love this writer, her imagery is just so lovely
A story of interconnected families and second chances, this novel has smart characters. The theme of George Eliot's 'Middlemarch' is a background motif.
so-soI liked the book. Until the end. I think she wanted some twists and turns but they were too convenient and forced. If the book had ended 50 pages earlier I would have really enjoyed this it. It is still worth reading but no one will blame you if you skip the end :)
pickThere's nothing like a Marisa de los Santos book to keep you warm in a stormy Saturday morning. I loved her then, and I still love her now. This book perfectly captures families, love, and all its messes and triumphs in all its glory. 💙
5:30am is too early to wake up. First morning of vacation and I was SO looking forward to sleeping in! Back to my current kindle book to keep my mind busy while I hope to fall back asleep. Books are such reliable companions. And when they talk to you like this....
I've been reading on my Kindle for the past few months and after marathon-reading The Raven Cycle books, I want something more contemporary and in print. Just the right time to read a Marisa de los Santos, I think! Bringing this to the beach this weekend. ☀️
The opening paragraph of this book is, like the entire novel, superb. This is exactly the kind of opener I love: the kind that says "Sit back, settle in, for I am about to tell you a story. Are you ready? Let's begin."
pickThe ending was a bit too stretched out, given that this is not really a suspenseful book. I loved how the book parallels the relationships between the older couple in their thirties who were once high school sweethearts and the awkward escapades of Willow and her suitors.
This book gives sibling rivalry a whole new definition. Does every family have a black sheep and a golden child?!
